Robbie and the hotel staff were kind and courteous as I checked in for my high noon tea experience. I loved the setup and the food was delicious. The tea options were great and I enjoyed the Turkish mint tea.

I typically don’t write reviews but coming from a born and raised Austenite who was excited to try a historical hotel restaurant; I was beyond upset and disappointed. My family and I took my mother here for her Mother’s Day brunch. When I booked the reservation there was no notice or even on their website stating it was a prefix menu for that day. I booked it specially for not having a fixed menu! (We have someone in our family with dietary restrictions). When we got sat inside during this gloomy and rainy day I felt more at ease thinking we would be out of the humid weather.. wrong, they kept the front doors open for the entirety of the service. There were sooo many flies going in and out of the restaurant and it was unbelievably humid and uncomfortable. Gross. We then noticed there was a prefix menu for $75 per person for a three course meal. The “mother of the hour” could even get their own free coffee and champagne. I was a little peeved about the prefix menu because of our family, but thought we can surely move things around….wrong again. The waiter never asked if there were any dietary restrictions, allergies, etc. We were obligated to the food on the menu only. I thought “Ok- not what I expected..but the menu looks fun, and why not?! It’s Mother Day!” When I tell you this was the worst and most disgusting food I have had in the past 15 years of my life, I am being so honest. This food had been definitely sitting out in the kitchen for a while and was not fresh. The crab cakes (…if you would even call them that) tasted and smelled atrocious. For an estate, you would think they would actually use real eggs in the frittata. The amount of the food /plates they brought out to our tables without even removing the first two courses before were insane. We had no space to eat in peace and if we could, everyone we ate with in the room were batting away flys. We spent over $500 that day and I am appalled of the experience and quality I received. Do better Hotel Ella.

This was one of the worst restaurants I have been to in awhile. The service was incredibly slow, the food came out and seemed as if it had been sitting for awhile, and the overall experience was unpleasant. I will not be going back here

Skip the Afternoon Tea. The sandwiches were not fresh. The bread was dry. Not all the teas on the menu were available. If you prefer loose teas, they were not offered. The tea takes place in the restaurant where they also offered their main menu. There was a table near us that totally ruined the vibe for us. They didn’t have the afternoon tea service. They were loud, obnoxious. The actual server was so nice and attentive but the experience was lacking.

We had a reservation for 8 pm. Now we were 10 minutes late, which was fine they had plenty of tables open. However they didn’t sit us until 8:30 pm. Not because we were late but not one person came up to the host stand to seat us. Mind you we had a 9:45 pm movie to catch. We sat down and just put our order immediately in and told them serve it as it’s ready. We ordered fries, Brussel sprouts, yellowfin tuna, and short rib. 20 minutes go by and nothing…not even the fries. 9:10 rolls around and nothing. So we told them we have to be out of here by 9:30 pm and they just flat out said sorry we won’t have the food out in time and they will just cancel it as the cook hasn’t even started it. So 50 minutes of waiting not one morsel of Food and they screwed up our second round of drinks. We had vodka martinis first then they gave us gin for second round. The servers and front of house staff were very cordial and apologetic sincerely. It clearly falls down on management and back of house for this utter failure. Hope they do better because it’s a one of a kind unique spot in Austin ambiance wise.

I reserved this restaurant for big group of us. The restaurant is located in charming Ella Hotel and is inviting. We were seated in a room that was mostly empty and noise level was minimum and everyone were able to talk without having to yell. But that's where good things ended. We ordered cocktails and some of them were messed up and had to be sent back. The appetizers took a while arrive on our half of the table while other side got theirs at least 15 min before. Then we ordered another round of same cocktails and this time around they looked and tasted different than previously ordered ones. Maybe the bartender changed? The food also took a while to arrive, but that wasn't the problem. They seem to run out of things and substituted things without informing us. By this time the room got filled up and the noise level was considerably high. And finally, when they asked how we will pay the bill, we said 3 ways. So they brought 3 bills with 3 different amounts to pay instead of dividing equally. By that stage we were all so ready to leave, that we didn't fight it. Overall, the food was ok, some items like chicken potpie were good and others were fair. Needless to say, we aren't going back.

Was exploring the space as a potential wedding venue and knew the food was an important element. Goodall’s kitchen left us impressed with every course. The baked Brie, roasted caesar salad and beef short rib were some of our favorites. The staff, Porter and Max were so kind and accommodating. We will definitely be back here, even if don’t select the hotel as a venue.
