At the Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford, Fresco at the Gardens serves artisanal breakfast and lunch to match its beautiful surroundings. For breakfast, which can be enjoyed anytime Fresco at the Gardens is open, savory options like the biscuits and gravy made with challah rolls topped with organic pork sausage, chorizo and herbs and the whimsical green eggs and ham with homemade pesto sauce and local asiago cheese, are irresistible. Sweet breakfast choices include the healthy start waffles with Fresco granola and topped with vanilla Greek yogurt and berries and the rock candy French toast, rolled in cinnamon rock sugar, both of which are ideal with a fresh-pressed strawberry orange juice.

Popular lunch entrees at Fresco at the Gardens include the Salmon Oscar, a crab stuffed salmon served over cauilflower quinoa rice with grilled asparagus and hollandaise sauce.

Waiter was very friendly and helpful. Atmostohere was nice. However, the value for the price changes was astronomically out of sync. While it was all you can eat I suppose, the caliber and quality of the food was no where near the $50 per person price tag. It was not bad or unappealing by any means. But a price of $50 a head to not even include a beverage beyond a glass of water is absurd. You could argue the price is to accommodate the upkeep of the beautiful gardens, however access to the gardens is also not included in the meal price. Over all, decent food, great service, not worth it. Just pick up lunch and buy a ticket to the garden separately.

The food was very good. The only perplexing thing was one would expect that if a restaurant opened for breakfast at 8am, you wouldn't need to wait for a cup of coffee (with a 8:15 reservation) because it was still brewing.

The wonderful view of the Japanese Gardens was only eclipsed by the fabulous food. Three of us had the veggie frittata. Our entire party was pleased with the taste, presentation and temperature of the foods. The beverages were appreciated, too. One member of our group didn’t see hot chocolate on the menu, but when he asked for it, they supplied a large, luscious looking version.

MY SISTER AND I HAD A WONDERFUL LUNCH AT FRESCO! THE FOOD WAS GOOD, THE GARDENS SPARKLED AS USUAL EVEN WITH THE CLOUDY AND RAINY DAY! WE WERE PROBABLY THE LAST TO BE SEATED AND WE FELT LIKE WE DIDN'T RECEIVE THE LEVEL OF SERVICE AND KINDNESS WE WOULD HAVE EXPECTED FROM OUR SERVER AND THE FRONT DESK STAFF. WE WLL RETURN, HOW CAN WE NOT WITH THE GARDENS BEING SO BEAUTIFUL, AND HOPEFULLY OUR SERVICE WILL SPARKLE TOO!

The menu is fairly brief and I would’ve liked to see more vegetarian options. Prices are on the higher side. But the building itself is beautiful and setting overlooking the gardens is so nice.

I have eaten at this restaurant many times in the past, with good service, good food, good atmosphere. This past Sunday, though the service was the worst I have ever had at any restaurant. The server must’ve been an aviator 🧑‍✈️ because she was sure good at flybys . It was unbelievable she would ask. How are you doing and before you could even say anything she was gone. Then she would come by again. Can I get you anything before you could say anything she was gone? But when it was time to pay the bill she was a ghost 👻 color me done, Not going back to this restaurant for a while.

I love Fresco at the Gardens! The food and service are great and staff is very attentive to my (demanding) family! I especially love walking the grounds and my six-year-old loves feeding the fish in the koi pond. It’s a magical place. The desserts are delicious, as are the fish tacos, the breakfast, the burgers, salads, all of it. And scenery can’t be beat.
