Love this restaurant! Our favorite dishes: coq au vin, salmon, crème brûlée, nice outdoor seating with heat lamps. Atmospheric indoor seating, very comfortable and friendly.

Loved our server! The atmosphere was great and it was fun to sit on the corner of the street and watch the city. The food was also amazing! Definitely try the onion soup!!

Wonderful Mother’s Day Brunch !!! The eggs oscar and duck hash were delicious , server was friendly and attentive , and the complimentary mimosa and macarons for Mom were a nice touch .

I know it was a busy Mother's Day brunch day, but the place was already clearing out at 2:30. Our server had to go back to kitchen a few times (we weren't pushing) to check on the progress. When I got my croque monsieur it was on something like untoasted white bread, with a cold piece of ham folded into it and dollop of gruyere that covered maybe half the bread. The other two meals were passable but by no means great. I don't like to give negative review, but there it is.

As I eat here at least twice a week and have written many reviews, I will just make this one about the new menu. My husband loved the short ribs and I always love the salmon. So happy French Roast is in my neighborhood

This is the second time I've been to French Roast in the past 2 weeks and on each occasion find the service of all the staff from the host/hostesses to the servers to the bus staff to be exemplary. Austin, our server on both occasions made the evenings quite special, thanks to his knowledge of the menu, his charm and his skill at making guests feel welcome. Try his recommendation - the duck confit and you will never be sorry.

Really lively yet charming diner on the UWS. The setting is fairly casual which is great for a bite to eat with friends. The pricing is super fair and appropriate for what you get. The service is great and even steered me towards dishes she thought were better than others!

The food was terrific. We all had different entrees and all were excellent. The service was excellent as well, friendly, professional and attentive. The only problem was that the table was too small for 8 adults! We didn’t really mind being squeezed together, but there was not enough room on the table for all the plates and glasses, even after we tried to streamline (with the help of our waiter) by removing wine carafes, bowls for clam and mussel shells, plates under the (crispy and delicious) pommes frites and any extra dishes we didn’t absolutely need. Even then, the table was so crowded that one of our guests had her almost full plate of Black Sea Bass end up in her lap! Apparently the plate was not able to fit fully on the table! The waiter helped her clean up the mess on her dress and had the kitchen cook her a whole new dinner, delivered on a smaller plate. We had a wonderful evening anyway and would simply recommend that people go in groups of no more than 5 or 6. (We were told that our table - which was two tables put together - was the largest they have.)

It is true a restaurant of our small size has challenges with larger groups indoors, though in our pergolas and patio we can accommodate large groups with greater ease parties from 10-30 can be easily handled, of course that is all weather dependent. But I'm glad to hear we leapt in and corrected the issue and you enjoyed your time with us despite the challenge.

All day brunch menu is limited, but everything we had was good and prepared the way we had requested. Servers were attentive and friendly. Outdoor seating was comfortable.

We ate brunch. The Scandinavian Eggs Benedict was delicious. The eggs were fluffy. We loved the atmosphere.

Duck Confit was fabulous and real bargain at $24. Supposedly the best thing in the menu and also the least expensive entrée. Highly recommend! However, it’s quite noisy in the main dining room and you might consider the outdoor cabin seating, especially now that the weather is turning nicer.

This restaurant is a staple for me as I live in the neighborhood. Last night the service wasn’t good at all and the mussels really were not good either. First time disappointed but luckily you have a good track record with me.

Beautiful day. The restaurant was slammed but the kitchen and bar were not up to the challenge. Food was sent back.

Best brunch on the UWS. I have never had a bad meal here and the staff is always friendly and attentive. Pro Tip take the two minutes and make a reservation for brunch …. You are going to be on a long wait list if you don’t !!

Unfortunately my friends and I ate outside thinking it was going to be an ok day but it was very cold and our coffees and food was cold fast. If it’s a little too windy I don’t recommend eating outside. Their outdoor heaters were ok but not the best. Staff was friendly at least but I wish they made more of an effort to accommodate us. Food could have been better I’m sure if it was warm and indoors.

Everything we ordered was delicious ! I had duck confit with a marvelous risotto, along with a delightful salad. My fried ordered Onion Soup and the salmon with vegetables. He was very happy with all of it. I need to mention how excellent our waiter was: he some how notice my surprise when the two little plates were taken away before the appetizer course, and came I’ve to ask if we wanted bread and butter for the table. Turns out, one needs to ask for bread, which is certainly understandable. This waiter continued to enhance what was a lovely dining experience. I wish I knew his name!

We both had the scallop special - it was delicious. The prune reduction was fantastic with it too! I was not prepared for the price though, when I got the bill. It probably would be a good idea to let the customers know the price of the specials before they order. Especially when it's more expensive than most things on the regular menu. As a "regular" customer, I have to admit I didn't really look at the menu last night since the specials sounded so good. And I could have asked the price but didn't.
