Dinner at Frances was a great evening out, with great staff, delicious food and a very nice ambience. The bacon beignets are wonderful, the beets are amazing and the salmon is amazing.

Went there for their first ever Mother’s Day brunch. First time at the restaurant, after my mom has wanted to try it for many years. Seven courses to go through for the preset meal, which was filling and tasty at the same time. Everything was great and would happily go back. The only thing that Was a little strange was the fact that out of three of us who ordered cocktails, only one of us was asked if we wanted another drink, whereas they simply took our empty glass away and that was it. Not a big deal since I think no one wanted a second drink, but something i noticed and not the best business model for the restaurant itself? :)

It had been quite some time since we were at Frances. Seemed to be a slightly more boisterous experience. However that wasn’t much of an issue. More importantly the food and service were fantastic. Price points are what one might expect in a restaurant of this caliber but not outrageous. Everything was very good from the beignets to the short rib to the pork chop to the desserts. Highlights were the octopus in mole sauce and the lumberjack cake and dreamsicle posset. Definitely won’t be as long until we’re back.

Had a wonderful evening at Frances, did the chef's tasting menu with the wine pairing and everything was excellent! The staff was wonderful, nice friendly, professional. Will definitely go back if I ever make it back to San Francisco.

The atmosphere is good but the food taste bitter and salty. Too much bitter taste make me drink a whole bottle of water. Don’t worth my money.

Thank you for the tasty and imaginative food. The seats in the park let are metal and cold when the temperature are cold. Easy fix for less cold seats.

Our server Kelly was fantastic! The food was great- very flavorful and beautifully presented. I love the fact that each dish is described in detail as it’s being served- as I tend to forget the fine details on the menu. The overall experience and quality of the food is well worth the price.

This was an excellent experience. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, all service members were kind and enthusiastic, and the food was impeccable. My favorite were the ricotta agnolotti- highly recommend!

Hadn’t eaten in years. The last time thought it was really great. This time? Not so much. Highlight was the avocado and hummus which was really excellent. Parsnip cake was oily and had no sweetness of parsnip. Other dishes were marred by too much fat and cream, nothing had an acidic note. Risotto tasted like it was made with water. Service was very good.

Frances is a San Francisco and personal longtime favorite. The food is normally priced for San Francisco - $32-45/plate. Please note that there is also a 7% surcharge tacked on, so be sure to account for that if you're dining on a budget. Can't go wrong with these menu selections: The pork The Brussels sprouts (seasonal, not on website menu), but very good The warm chocolate mousse is pleasant The royal Caviar is from Tsar Nikolai, a local brand.

This was our first time dining at Francis, and it did not disappoint. From the soft-as-a-pillow, sourdough bread with a crunchy crust to the Lumberjack cake dessert, it was all delicious. We started with a glass of French champagne, the real thing, then had pasta with black truffle, and I had the steamed sole which was wrapped in a chard leaf. It had some Farro along with it in sauce. The portions are just enough so you don’t get too full. You need room for that cake with cardamom ice cream. Reserve the 30 days ahead.

I recommend outdoor dining in the enclosed parklet - it's much quieter and very cute and cozy. The interior of the restaurant is immensely loud when it's a full house, which would make conversation very hard. Service is perfect. I don't recal ever having servers so friendly and attendtive. Food is very good. The pasta disches shine above all others.

We were slightly disappointed in the meal we had. There were some highs, the pork chop was a good portion and cooked well, the sole was also cooked very well but the octopus starter was a sad, skinny, four inch piece with about 4 cauliflower floweretts, a little shredded fennel and a mayonnaise sauce. Also, the dessert was advertised as chocolate mousse but what we got could not come close to being called a mousse. It was a chocolate sauce over some ice cream (was supposed to be corn husk but tasted like plain old vanilla and some small disc of cake? Great wine selection, the service was wonderful but not sure we would return.

This was my 4th time going and 1st time in the parklet. The food was creative and exciting, as it always has been. We asked for a recommendation on the wine and got a delightful French varietal that was unique and blended with all of our food. The parklet was surprisingly warm, cozy, and upscale. It pretty much matched the level of the ambiance inside, which was a pleasant surprise. Also, we forgot to tell the staff at first about a tree nut allergy and when they brought something with hazelnuts, we told them and they were so nice about it. Excellent customer service. This is my favorite restaurant in the Castro and one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Absolute gem.

Great service. Delicious food. We loved the appetizer options. The homemade sourdough was so good. We both opted for pasta dishes and were not disappointed. We pretty much flipped a coin to pick dessert. The food didn't have one theme and we liked that. There was a great selection and variety but not overwhelming. Will recommend and visit again.
