    I loved this restaurant pre-pandemic; unfortuntely this time we were underwhelmed. The scallop crudo was fishy and the grapefruit sauce was too strong for the fish The avocado was very good, but nothing special. The risotto was a bowl of butter and cream with a few vegetables strewn on top. The redeeming dish was the stone fruit with hazelnuts and olive oil, which was of the caliber we expected the full meal to be. And we enjoyed the coconut cake with cardamom ice cream, but it wasn't enough to salvage the meal at that price point. There are so many exceptional restaurants in SF and I'm sad to say that this one doesn't hit that bar.

    After 15 years Frances is as good as ever and still the best food in the Castro area. On top of the flawless old school Bay Area California cuisine is now fused a new Asian influence: a glimpse of the future. Bring your date here, and if they don't like it, keep looking for new dates.

    Frances is a charming restaurant with delicious, creative dishes, interesting combinations of ingredients, lovely wines and a pleasant, winning staff that works together seamlessly. Everyone there seemed to be enjoying themselves and in rather tight quarters were friendly neighbors.

    Delicious, unique, and seasonal dishes. Excellent for sharing. Lots of pescatarian and vegetarian options. Impeccable service. Will definitely be back!

    Loved it. We’ve been meaning to go forever and finally made it to celebrate my husband’s birthday and it did not disappoint. We did the chefs tasting menu (vegetarian for me) with wine pairings and it was just excellent. Service was top notch. Our new favorite spot.

    Fantastic celebratory dinner. We did the chef’s tasting menu and with 1 vegetarian and 2 meat eaters it was better than I could imagine. I’ve here once before but never the tasting menu - highly recommend!! I didn’t leave hungry. I like rediscovering such a great restaurant in my neighborhood all over again. I can’t wait to come back to Frances.

    Overall is a good restaurant to diner in but the table is basically next to each other and you can listen to the conversation very easy.
