Owned and operated by John Crook and his partner Erik Heck, The Flying Pig Yaletown is referred to as a nouveau Canadian bistro in the community for its fresh, local ingredients and quality food. The restaurant opened for business in August 2011 and is known for its contemporary Canadian and seafood specials. It has a nice décor comprising of a combination of dark and light colored wooden furniture, along with brick style and white painted walls. The ambiance is casual and welcoming, and customers prefer to have brunch, lunch and dinner here.

The Flying Pig Yaletown has separate menus for dinner, lunch, brunch and happy hour. There is also a wine & beverage list featuring different types of drinks from the restaurant's full bar. The Flying Pig Yaletown has a private room reserved for small gatherings and special events, which can accommodate up to 28 people.

It is good overall and food is good overall. Trout is really tasty. Server was courteous as well.

Great food. It's why we continue to come back, again and again. The noise level at the Yaletown location is deafening. Usually the restaurant is full at capacity, but this last time it was about two-third's full, but it was still uncomfortably loud. They always play music over a stereo system, which is all right, and that volume is not crazy, but there seems to be either something about the acoustics of the space, or the Yaletown patrons are particularly obnoxious and like to get drunk. It's not the restaurant's fault, but just be warned, this is the loudest restaurant we have been to in Vancouver, and it's every time. There are often large tables of groups, and they just don't care about the other diners. But the food is excellent. It's boldly flavoured, sometimes too much for me, but it's sophisticated yet also comforting. The server staff, and floor manager, are really good. They always work hard to make it a good experience for guests. Some are more energetic, some more formal, but it adds to the experience, rarely detracts. There is a black woman who often is at the hostess stand, and she is an exception. She's beautiful but she doesn't smile, doesn't seem happy, and doesn't keep track of reservation names, forgetting who has arrived, thus not coordinating parties. It's a simple job, don't know what the problem is there. Great value? Not sure about that. It's spendy, a splurge. For a date night, you're probably not getting out of there under $100, probably more. But at least the food quality is good, service is good, and decor is good. Maybe all the rest is a byproduct of living in busy, costly Vancouver.

Of the moment Canadian Cuisine w/Spectacular hits (and tragic misses) The Flying Pig prides itself of showcasing the food of BC and for the most part it succeeds. Our Beet & Arugula salad, Bison Carpaccio, and Blackened Steelhead Trout were all delicious with just the right balance of salt and acid to brighten but not overwhelm the flavors of the produce and proteins. But the Mushroom Pappardelle was an abysmal failure...seemingly prepared by someone who had never eaten a mushroom dish before (or simply hates mushrooms). Instead of being sliced and sauteed to bring out the flavors and present them to the palate, they were served whole and almost raw. The drinks were a similar story. The Cold Toddy was quite simply one of the best and most surprising drinks we've had in years, bringing together seemingly disparate elements into a balanced, delicious, and coherent whole - truly a master mixologist at work. The Fig And The Bear was only slightly less good...perhaps because it was more straightforward. But the Harvest Sangria was (again?) made by someone who either had never tasted Sangria (or simply hates it). Ideally balanced between the sweetness and brightness of the fruit and rich complexity and power of the wine, in this version the flavors of the wine were AWOL and the fruit left to itself. A tasty fruit cocktail...but not a Sangria. The atmosphere was fun and funky and the service mixed. Our waiter and the other servers were exemplary until around 8PM when the entire world showed up for dinner and we were left alone waiting for our check for 20 minutes. I wish I could give 4 1/2 stars...but the highs overwhelmed the lows.

Always great. Our lunch group goes here every 3 months for that reason. This time, the Ling cod was fabulous. Everyone enjoyed their meal choices. Great beer selection and great service. We’re going to continue coming every quarter for lunch!

Fine food and great service. We ate outside because inside the Monday Happy Hour was bedlam. Would definitely recommend and go again.
