Excellent meal, food and drink was very good as always but it didn’t seem like there were anywhere near enough staff compared to previous visits - those that were there seemed run off their feet so service was consequently slow at times.

Whilst I can appreciate everything has gone up of late, prices were steep for what you received. 3 of Us went for Dinner 2x Small Pieces of Lamb Rump, 3 average Potato’s and around 6 bits of very skinny Tenderstem Broccoli for £27.50 just doesn’t cut it. The Steak at £33.50 wasn’t great either. Only thing that was fair was the Pizza one of Us had.

Excellent all round. This pub is amazing. The food is fabulous. It is well looked after and beautifully decorated. The dogs were welcome. Without doubt the best pub for miles.

A warm welcome as always from the team. Sadly the table was half in the inglenook and meant it felt rather cramped and hard to perch on easily. We had drinks to start (Guinness was good) and the Bloody Mary was rather uninspiring - no dressing or celery to give it a real ‘wow’; just served with a straw in a large wine glass. Beef roast lunch was well cooked and tasty. The Yorkshire pudding was size over substance and was very airy without any real ‘batter’ taste. Overall a good lunch and a proper pub atmosphere.

Absolutely love this place, the staff, the service, the setting, the food, the atmosphere, it's all just perfect. Thank you to everyone front and back of house for working so hard to create a wonderful experience. We hope the 10% service charge added to the bill is shared equally amongst you all, very well deserved.

Overpriced, especially the steak, and then they add on 10%. Nice place but greedy on the money front. Won't be going back. Shame..

Excellent food as usual and excellent service from Saskia. I come here fairly regularly - approx every few weeks for lunch when walking from Sellindge and home again afterwards. 🙂👍

Food was amazing, Pub is beautiful. The only thing that didn’t reach high expectations. We ordered some bread and olives, they forgot the bread, had to ask where it was when starters came out. Ordered water for table that never arrived till asked again through main course. Asked to refresh drinks and on 3rd request they were done. I would have accepted if busy but I believe there were only 2/3 other tables occupied. Overall did not ruin our experience as this was a birthday dinner and we will return at some point, would have been a higher score if service was on point.

Absolutely delicious food. Everything from the bread and butter to the fish and chips were outstanding. Cosy ambience with a wood burning fire. Service was warm and friendly, albeit a little on the slow side. Starters took approximately 30 minutes to arrive. Not a problem if you’re not in a hurry. Both the food and the atmosphere of the place really warrant taking your time as well. Absolutely fab, will definitely be back.

Absolutely spot on. I’ve dined here a few times over the years and never been disappointed. The staff are lovely, the atmosphere always just right and the food is always terrific. Wonderful..

Fantastic food , great place to eat . We did not feel rushed and good was extremely tasty. The staff are fantastic,very personable. The ambience in the pub is great ,nicely decorated and cosy . Have eaten here before on a weekday and we had the same service. We will be returning.

Overall our visit was good. However, the menu was a little limited. Service was a little slow even though the restaurant was not full.

Disappointing, food was good but let down by staff, vegetable dishes didn't arrive until main course was nearly finished, wasn't offered coffee, we asked for a coffee at 10.50 only to be told the machine was turned off.

Great to see that it was busy, even midweek, as that adds to the ambience. Cosy log fire on a damp, wet, day. Always a pleasure to come to The Five Bells for a meal!

Up to the usual excellent standard. Planning to be back very soon. My dog Ben is very settled there now and we both enjoy the 4.5 mile walk each way to and from home. Sorry I didn't make a note of the name of the young chap serving us. Very friendly and attentive and made us feel very welcome together with the proprietor/manager 🙂

Stayed here on Valentines day. Had lunch and dinner which was amazing. Friendly helpful staff. Gorgeous room. We were made to feel very welcome. Little touches in the room makes all the difference.

I am a fairly frequent regular custat the five bells for lunch and as well as taking my young Labrador Ben, I have taken a number of different friends there now as well as a regular walking friend roughly every 6 weeks or so. The food is always excellent and varied and extremely good value. Irena and Sonya (I must check I have been spelling names correctly) are a credit to the business in terms of the professionalism combined with friendly, speedy and welcoming service. Haven't tried the premises yet for evening meals but I am sure it's just as good. I often walk the four miles each way from home for lunch and unless I am somewhere away from home, I wouldn't go anywhere else for lunch. I hope the management read these reviews because your staff are excellent ambassadors for your business. I am back with a walking friend on 28 February. Very best wishes. Kevin
