Once again, this has proven to be one of the finest dining experiences in all of Houston. The tables are nicely spaced, the noise level is busy but not loud, food and service were excellent (as always)! We took another couple, and this is now their favorite restaurant in Houston as well. Simply cannot say enough wonderful things about this place!

As usual everyone was friendly when we walked in. We always enjoy the food at Eugene's but this time was very, very good. The seafood gumbo is always great and didn't disappoint. The Campechana is the best in Houston. The pecan crusted redfish was wonderful. One of the specials that night was soft shell crab. I had that and it was amazing.

Love this spot. Sole reason for only 4stars is that the crab cakes are mainly crab stuffing with the only lump crab in the center. Good, though

This was our first time dining at Eugene's and we will be back! The atmosphere, service, and food were excellent. We were not seated outside like we reserved, but the experience was still wonderful for our 10th wedding anniversary celebration dinner. Every item was well-prepared and tasted great.

We came here for my brother’s birthday. The food was excellent. Atmosphere was quiet so we could talk easily and the service was attentive and nice. Will definitely come back!!

The restaurant is very charming and nice. However, the food and service leave something to be desired. Our server came back to take our order after quite a while & then only asked us how things were in passing. We had to track her down to ask for jam, which she had to ask about and then told us they did not carry any. The restaurant was not excessively busy, as we went at the end of Easter service for brunch, but our server was difficult to track down. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered scrambled eggs, which were far overcooked, the bacon was decent, the poblano cheese grits had great flavor, but were the consistency of glue. The Texas toast was good, but we all would have preferred to have jam or honey to accompany it. It definitely was not worth the price and disappointing.

Great experience, excellent food, love the Mahogany Bar and the history, the ambiance, and the whole experience. Kyle, the owner spent time going through the history and significance of some of the items in the restaurant. It was apparent he is proud of the restaurant and it shows. It’s our favorite new place to eat, or to sit at the beautiful bar and enjoy a drink! If you like mahogany and white tablecloths, this is your place!

We are faithful supporters of Eugene’s. Today was a disappointment. We waited over an hour for appetizers, which was only a salad & 1/2 dozen oysters. We then waited another 20 minutes for our entrees. No beverage refills, no checking in or offer of desert. They were not that crowded, but I think our waiter forgot to turn in our order, other tables around us were getting their food. The food was good, but we were so hungry by the time it came it was hard to tell. I am much more likely to return to a restaurant that has excellent service & average food than excellent food & mediocre service.

A classic experience with all the trappings of a neighborhood gem from New Orleans. Plan to use free valet but they keep the cars close. Don’t be fooled by the simple-looking menu, everything is done to perfection.

Eugene’s is a very solid restaurant! Unlike many of the places in Houston, if you are looking for a quiet dining room, so that you can hear your friends or family that you are dining with, this is the place to go! Their food is really good, they also have a very good happy hour if you’re into that. We sat outside on a beautiful spring day And enjoyed impeccable service from Juan!

We met in the bar and the 4 of us were quickly and politely ushered to our booth right at the end of the bar area. Perfect for conversation and people watching. We ordered rye manhattans, an old fashioned and wine for drinks. The bar service gets an A+. Appetizers were ordered: 2 orders of crabcakes and an order of Oysters Jonny. Crabcakes were unusually thin (1/4”x 4“) including breading which rendered them dry (after flash- frying) and somewhat flavorless. These could have benefitted from being thicker, no external breading and pan sautéed in butter only - not flash fried. The Oysters Jonny were described as oysters on the half-shell covered with jumbo lump crab meat, spinach sauce and Parmesan cheese. On delivery there was no sign or taste of the crabmeat on our OystersJonny. Tasty but missed the crab. Our mains were red beans and rice, fried shrimp, 1/2 Order of scallops and shrimp cocktail. Mostly satisfying except for the ice cream sized scoop of dirty rice and the 3 onion rings in my order. It seemed as though my 1/2 order of scallops that included 2 sides, meant 1/2 sized side orders as well. My wife’s shrimp cocktail seemed to be populated with 6 medium sized shrimp no bigger around than my pinky. Our memory of many dining experiences here recalled larger shrimp. The overall tenor of our meal appraisal was that prices were up and for quality/quantity was down. All very tasty otherwise. We’ll be back to enjoy food and drink again.

Went for lunch and was presented dinner menu. Had to ask for lunch menu. Shrimp Etouffe was mediocre and lukewarm. Onion rings also limp and lukewarm warm. Service was good.

Clearly understaffed for this first Sunday brunch offering. Service was slow, food moderate at best, although the Seafood Gumbo was quite good. Families with small children were a little disruptive, but, happily, they left before us. Parking is awful unless you like parking on the street.
