Severely short staffed! One waiter for entire outdoor patio for about 30 minutes and definitely unfair to employee. The menu item was prepared completely different from previous times I’ve ordered it before. Disappointed

Fernando was awesome, took great care of us and was very patient and friendly. Our second round of drinks took a long time, not sure if they got lost but took twice amount of time as our first round took to get delivered. Aside, drinks were delicious, doc holiday and Que Rico are our favorites and the guac is always a slam dunk

Went for Cinco de mayo lots of menu items were not available..Drinks and service were very slow.. ceviche was good and the shrimp queso fundido was good as well. I really wanted to try the birria tacos or mole but they were not available..

Miley was our server and very amazing! Very very attentive , cheerful and caring. She comped one our drinks as we waited long-the food arrived long before the cocktails. Interesting the crudo is limited service only available after 4pm. We were there for lunch and look forward to the ceviche. The fish tacos very skimpy on the amount of meat presented. The melted cheese on the tortillas for the fish tacos made it tough & chewy. The California burritos were great and the fresh multiple kinds of salsa and chips were delicious!

From the moment we walked in, there was a not a friendly vibe. We requested an outside seating on our reservation request, and were seated in the back room, although outdoor, it consisted of mostly large tables that evening. The front seating area, much more visually appealing, was about half empty, and am still not sure why we were seated elsewhere. Once we sat, it took at least 10 minutes for a server to approach, and then about 15 minutes for water to be served. I think they were running low on water as we had to basically beg for a refill. The food was fine. But due to the length of time it took our server to swing by, and to get the water server's attention, we were exhausted and had enough. We could not bring ourselves to order additional plates. And then, as you might have guessed, it took about another 15 minutes to get our check, and we almost walked to the front bar to be cashed out, but the server finally came back to accept payment. We left, shaking our heads, and disappointed in just about everything El Sueno did that evening.

El Sueno offers interesting menu choices. The queso fundido was very good. The carne asada tacos were very average. The restaurant was understaffed for Cinco de Mayo weekend.

The flavor of the mole had great depth and I enjoyed the fact that the chicken itself had great flavor apart from the sauce. In other words it wasn’t hidden under the sauce. Care was taken to balance the flavors of the dish. The mixed drinks were excellent.

Got there right as it opened. Everything was great! We had the guac and chips, cheese quesadilla, and lobster tacos. Reasonably priced! Easy parking and great service. Officially petitioning to bring the crab empanadas back!!!!! Please!!! 🫶🏼🫶🏼

There are better restaurants in old town, though I am not sure you can beat the price. The Cadillac margarita is the size of two drinks. There are very few plant based options.

Celebrated a friend's birthday! Beautiful ambiance, good food, great drinks, overall cute spot. Wish our waiter was a little more enthusiastic but overall 9 out of 10

Excellent dinner. Our server Juliet was exceptional. She was very attentive and gave terrific recommendations. Was quiet for easy conversation. Food was very good.

Love the location and the ambiance. Such a great little spot. The food was incredible. The chips, salsa spread and guac were delicious and the lobster tacos were spot on. The cocktails were super tasty and interesting. Our server was great, but the food came very slow. It was also a little loud in there, but not terrible. All in all, such a great spot.

We had a birthday celebration the place it’s beautiful the ambience it’s amazing the service it’s great food was wonderful. Drinks are ridiculously amazing and are waitress was super nice and helpful and polite and we just had an amazing experience.

The food was excellent. Once the food arrived, our party of 5 enjoyed perfectly cooked shrimp, succulent chicken, delicious mole and more. But the "ambience" in the main dining room! Rain was threatening so we opted for inside, and it was just awful. Techno-pop blaring so loud that conversation was impossible and our requests to turn it down a bit were not heeded, red LED lights meant to inspire... what? No idea. The patio looked lovely and might be worth another go since the food was so good but inside ever again? Hard no.

Service was horrible. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation planning to have a cocktail at the bar before our friends arrived. It took 5 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge us but the cops and salsa were dropped right away. Great salsa mix. Clearly homemade and delicious. We ordered our drinks. 15 minutes later our friends arrived but the drinks did not. Hostess seated us in the beautiful outdoor patio promising to get the drinks transferred. Never happened. Water and chips delivered to the table pretty quickly. Primary server took at least 10 minutes to stop by. I explained the drink issue. He followed up with the bar, determined the drinks were never made. So, we ordered for the table. An hour into arrival, still no drinks. I had to back inside and remind the bar that we were still waiting. I suggested to our server that we were not happy with how things were going hoping for a change, but it didn’t. We had out of town guests who wanted to explore Old Town. I was hoping this would be a great find that we would work into a regular rotation, and I’ll give it one more try because the food deserves another chance. If you plan a visit, be patient, enjoy the patio. The noise inside is loud. Low ceilings in an historic building. Cocktails are interesting but expensive. What I would call a house margarita was $15. Tourist prices. The passion fruit old-fashioned was delicious but $18 is a little steep. The horrible service severely detracted from the food even after I pointed out that we weren’t happy.

Easily one of the worst dining experiences I've had in San Diego (and I'm from here). Waited over 40 min for 4 people to get one round of drinks and when mine came it was undrinkable (as in sugar water that didn't taste like my husband's who ordered the same) and I had to send it back. A replacement drink never came (after waiting another 30 min and asking again) and we aware billed full price for every item on the check and given a pathetic apology despite truly the worst service I've ever experienced. Food was just mediocre-- 10/10 would not return.

This was my 3rd visit to this restaurant which previously I had loved. This was a very disappointing visit. The food (same as we ordered previously) was lackluster. The sopes tasted like they had spent more time being boiled than grilled. The other 4 dishes from the Happy Hour menu were equally bland. Service started well but deteriorated as the patio became busier. We waited 30 minutes to put in a second cocktail order and had to stand up and wave to catch our waiter’s attention. Very very disappointing visit. Don’t think we’ll be back.

Fun place downstairs is cozy and beautiful patio. Upstairs is a cool “speakeasy” we got lucky and sat up there. The food was awesome from the sushi rolls to the enchiladas!!

Super authentic Mexican dishes. I got my go-to enchilada suizas. Simply the best. My other dining partners equally enjoyed their shrimp tacos and fish tacos.

We discovered El Sueño last month and have decided this place is amazing with great tacos, great service one of the best places to visit on a Tuesday for taco Tuesday. We’ll be back and we are definitely going to make this our taco Tuesday tradition at least once a month.

The outdoor area was nice and cozy. They turned on the heaters for us. The food was delicious. The salsa variety made for fun tastings. The margaritas were perfect!

Very traditional Northern Baja cuisine featuring seafood as well as traditional street tacos. The salads were unique and tasty. The Elote was perfectly cooked. And, the Tacos El Pastor were perfect. Thank you for such a great meal.

We had an excellent meal at El Sueno. The waiter, Andrew, was very attentive and helpful. We asked him to turn down the loud music and he accommodated us right away. We'll be back many times.

They took a very long time to ask us if we were ready to order and they served a different table that came in after us before we were served. Good didn't take long to arrive but the drinks we ordered took too long, even worse we asked for water in the meantime and that took 25 minutes. We order aguachiles and the shrimp were tiny and portion was very small for the price we paid.

I've been an Opentable member for years and not to be hyperbolic but this was probably the worst dining experience I've ever had in my life. Came with a party of 11 to celebrate a birthday and here's everything that ruined the night: 1. Server was essentially useless. Stopped by a few times early on to check if “we were ready to order”. Zero attempts to walk through the menu, ask if we wanted any drinks etc. Once we placed our initial order, we never saw him again until an hour later when we had to get up and track him down. 2. When taking our order, the server stood in one spot. I was seated on the opposite side of where he was standing and instead of walking over to engage with myself and my side of the table, we all had to shout our orders at him. I felt like I was ordering at a drive through; this was beyond impersonal. I’m going to come back to this later. 3. Server forgot to put in one of the orders. Food came out way later so one of our party members had to sit and watch while everyone else ate. There were no attempts to remedy this and we ended up paying for the dish. 4. Plates leftover from appetizers were never cleared. Instead, entrees were served at an already cluttered table. 5. It was evening and we were seated outside. Every table had candles illuminated but ours. We basically ate in the dark. 6. This was a first; zero attempts by the restaurant to give any kind of birthday dessert. I’m not even upset that there wasn’t a free one, I’m upset that there wasn’t any offered at all. 7. Back to point 2. When the server finally did come back, they repeatedly only engaged with one side of the table. My side of the table was completely ignored (birthday girl included). This place has recently has gotten a lot of negative reviews and I regret not taking them seriously. We came out wanting to have a good time and ended up leaving feeling ignored and disrespected. Do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else.

The Shrimp Tostadas were FANTASTIC and we loved the selection of salsas they bring with the chips. Each one had a unique flavor profile and they were all very good which is rare. The only disappointment was that we went to try the aguachile roll after reading about it in a magazine and unfortunately all of their crudo is only offered after 4pm as they currently only have one sushi chef. Fortunately the food we did have was good enough to entice me back again, this time for dinner.

We were seated in the very back patio when we arrived and I was worried we would be forgotten! But Mailyi exceeded all of our expectations. She was personable. Professional. Cheerful. Prompt and simply delightful. Food was great, atmosphere calming and service exceptional. Thank you !! We will be back.

We loved this cozy Mexican restaurant. It was my 3rd visit. Great parking too. Ceviche was very fresh. Margaritas are authentic and very good.
