This is one of the best restaurants I have been to. The food is delicious, thoughtfully crafted, and had my companion and I wishing we could have gone here more than once during our weekend stay in Austin. The tuna appetizer, the daily taco, two kinds of mole and the tres leche cake all were noteworthy/exceptional. Can’t say enough. I am ordering some of their sauces to be sent home because I can’t imagine not tasting the flavors again soon. If I travel back to Austin, this will be the first reservation I make.

Never has tastes like this. The family has done a loving job bringing a unique style of cuisine to diners. Run, don’t walk.

Some of the best food we’ve had in a long time. Personal preference but the mole wasn’t our favorite, however the ceviche and tacos were incredible as were the drinks. Highly recommend

Outstanding and innovative cuisine. I had the halibut in a mango mole, which was complex and delicious. My friends sopped up the remaining mole with homemade corn tortillas. I love it that the various mole and other sauces are available on a variety of proteins (duck, fish, chicken, vegetarian). We had the tuna and mango ceviche to start. It was awesome. One dinner companion had the steak in tequila cream sauce which is the best deal in Austin on a great steak. It came with goat cheese mashed potatoes and asparagus. The server was knowledgeable and helpful; she kept out water glasses refilled too. All in all, it was a delightful dinner. My only constructive advice to the exceptional chef-owner is that the bar and dining room are a tad too bright. El Naranjo is unpretentious and we had no trouble getting a table on a Friday night. It is one of the very best restaurants in a city filled with great restaurants.

Before this last visit I have had great service. But, this time our cafes de olla were extremely over sweetened and so we ordered a French press to mix into it. Unfortunately, the French press which our server forgot to bring was extremely watery and weak. So, it didn’t make much of a difference. Overall, the food taste was not as good as previous visits. I’m not the type to like very salty food, but most of the items I ordered seemed under seasoned and lacking some salt.

Our server was so kind and accommodating. I tend to have autoimmune flares with certain oils, which makes dining out tricky and stressful. I also was a server for navy years, so I know the ask is a big one. He treated it like it was no sweat. My meal was absolutely delicious and I felt great. That said, if you have an allergy to seed oils this probably isn’t your place. Most of the noteworthy dishes were off limits for me.

Horrible place. Used to be fantastic when it first opened. Not kid friendly. If you came not dressed in Versace, they will treat you poorly. They take food away from you when you are still eating! Waiter brought someone’s food placed on our table, then returned to take it to another table … not legal and not sanitary! Safe your time and money and spend it at another place! Austin has so many wonderful places that serve great food, drinks and make you feel like a king even when you aren’t dressed in Versace. El Alma or Hecho in Mexico are fantastic alternatives!

The food was excellent and the decor was lively and engaging. While we don't like constant questions, our server was absent for too long leaving us sitting among our dirty dishes for two long. He is clearly very capable but may have just been having an off night. All the other staff were very efficient and helpful.
