Amazing place who let us have the post breakfast menu before the allocated time. The only down side was that they didn’t put the boiled egg into my BLT. Despite that, it was still made with great produce

First visit to Dukes for lunch. Very impressed with the venue. The food was really tasty, especially the Sweet Potato and Red Pepper soup best soup I have tasted in a long time. Lovely staff. Will be back.

Very friendly staff. Food was good. Very noisy though. But good atmosphere. Will definitely be back but maybe on a quieter day.

My friend and I had a lovely lunch at Dukes , such a lovely atmosphere, great food and a wander around the beautiful gallery. It’s a wonderful place to visit. Would highly recommend !

Beautiful little restaurant nestled at the rear of an art gallery/ shop. The staff were so pleasant and friendly and nothing was too much for them. We chose the brunch bowl and the eggs royale, and we were not disappointed, both were beautiful presented and the taste was to die for . We have been very impressed with our meals out during our stay in the area and this definitely rates as one of the best . I was having a slight reaction to one of my medications which meant I couldn't try the cakes but they looked very very tempting indeed. All in all a visit is a definite must if you value delicious food, pleasant surroundings, polite, friendly and helpful staff and just a very very nice time . Please pass on our thanks to everyone

Frequent visitor and sorry that they’ve not quite got it right yet. Lovely place and staff much more attentive, though had to ask for water 3 times. Soup delicious. Humous and pepper sandwich impossible to pick up. Bread nasty supermarket stuff and fell to pieces with filling. Chicken rock hard. Could use it as roof tile, caused much hilarity. Such a great location, promises so much but still waiting for a good all round experience .

We have visited Dukes of West Barns on quite a few occasions. It is a very welcoming and attractive gallery and cafe. We have always had delicious food and good coffee at this gorgeous venue. Staff are polite and attentive, and the owners are engaging and enthusiastic. We are delighted to have this venue in East Lothian.

Cheery and helpful staff and great grub. Food was slow, but I think they are cooking to order. I would rather have slow fresh than fast nasty. The space is good, and the ambience for lunch was spot on. I will be back with more friends.

This is the fourth time I've had lunch at Dukes and, once again, it was very enjoyable. I was brought the wrong order but it was immediately taken away without a fuss and my original order was served very promptly. I'd ordered the poached eggs, potatoes and mushrooms, it was delicious. My friend enjoyed her meal but thought the smoked salmon was overly salty. We bought two cakes to take away as couldn't eat another thing. The ambience was perfect, not too busy. The acoustics are very good, I've eaten on previous occasions when it's been full of people but still managed to easily hear what people are saying. The lighting is also perfect. Am looking forward to warmer weather to be able to eat outdoors. Staff are so friendly and our dog is always made a fuss of. All in all, a lovely lunch and I will continue to visit Dukes. Well done to all the staff.

This was my first visit to Dukes and it didn’t disappoint. The owners have transformed this former pub to create a modern, comfortable and welcoming dining space. The sandwiches were good as was the ambience. I enjoyed looking at the gallery too. Definitely an excellent addition to the restaurant/cafe scene in Dunbar.

I visited Dukes yesterday (Saturday) for the lunch service. The staff are nothing short of delightful and it’s a lovely restaurant. however, we waited for 1.5hours for our lunch. This has happened on three occasions now, and I really feel that this should be addressed. I won’t visit again for a few months for this reason. This is a lovely place and could be excellent if only they sorted the timings of their orders.

Nice place, plenty of choice, prompt service. Food so-so. My choice, the ‘Barns Bowl’, comprising black pudding, poached eggs, potato and toast, was frankly dry and not very good. It needed something else to make it more appealing. Even some baked beans would have improved it. My wife’s goats cheese salad was perfectly OK, without being especially memorable. Some small things - no salt and pepper on the table, no water offered, no sauces or other condiments offered. Yes, we could have asked for any or all of those things, but in a very busy cafe, it isn’t always easy to get the attention of the waiting staff. Overall, a bit disappointing.

Third trip to Dukes and it gets better each visit. The food is excellent and the service is tip top. My only complaint if you can call it that is vegetarian options are lacking other than that I’m back for Mother’s Day 😊

What a welcome establishment to the area! Wonderful space with a great atmosphere and excellent and very friendly service. We had lunch and coffee which were very good (only marked down for packaged, salted butter and average quality bread). Limited cake choice, however, and not as good quality as lunch. And where are the scones?!! Missing out on a large market if these aren't provided. Hopefully this will be remedied when we return (soon).

Hi Maria, Thank you for your lovely comments. I can see that you visited on a Monday, unfortunately Monday is the last day of our week before our 2 days closed, this can mean a limited number of cakes as we try to reduce waste as much as possible. We do normally have fresh scones every day but again these are made first thing and can be sold out quickly, it is hard to judge as some days we sell lots and some days just a few so we are still trying to find the right balance. We are also working on the bread and the jam and butters. Best wishes Sophie

First visit, Monday lunch time with a friend. Lovely toasted cheese sandwich and a coffee. Great service. I would return. Lovely environment. The owners have done a great renovation and off to a flying start. I will return.

The breakfast dishes were so fresh, the potatoes were beautiful, hot and tasty, our black pudding and mushroom were excellent both with perfectly poached eggs and sweet, crisp peashoot garnish. Best decaf coffee I've had for a while. All in a beautiful calm and quiet environment; just idyllic.

Very sadly this was not a good experience and our first time visiting the venue. The service was very poor. The food (all 4 different menu choices) was of a very low standard. There was a lot of staff but they seemed bewildered. The bill was paid but at no time during our meal or on payment did a member of staff ask if everything was/had been OK. It is unfortunately somewhere I will not be revisiting

Three of our main courses arrived at least 10 minutes before the last one which meant food already served was getting cold. It was a bit embarassing as we had recommended it to friends and taken them out for lunch. The food itself when it arrived was fine. Staff were lovely but despite not being too busy took a long time to clear our plates away. Very different to our last experience.
