Welcome to Down the Hatch - EDINBURGH!

We are a diner focusing on diner style food with big flavour, fresh ingredients, huge taste and all things Canadian!!

Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult and are not permitted from 8pm onwards.

We have a 10 minute grace period for your booking. Please give us a call if you are running late for your booking.

Your table will be booked for 1 hour 15 minutes for bookings of up to 6 people; and 1 hour 45 minutes for bookings of 7+.

We have a limited number of outside tables. These are not bookable at the moment and are on a first come, first served basis.

Last bookings are 9.15pm as our kitchen closes at 9.45pm, 7 days a week.

Food was amazing I was stuffed afterwards and had to go lie down! Highly recommend the house poutine and the iced pornstar martini was so good we had a 2nd one will definitely return next time in the area

Food was good and well worth the price, but very disappointed in the size of the raspberry daiquiri, it was tiny and definitely wasn’t worth £10.

went with my partner on the 19th of April and were served by the most loveliest funny guys who took such good care of us, nothing was ever too much and they were both a great laugh. Will definitely be back next time we’re in edinburgh

Booked for a quick bite to eat before an event nearby, had mentioned this on booking and it was acknowledged when sat at table. Really quick and friendly service and food was really tasty.

Staff were super attentive, friendly and helpful, chicken was a bit on the dry side on the burger, but it was still delicious. Drinks were good. Food and drink was served quickly considering we were a large table

Noisy burger and fries place, wings were very good. Wait staff excellent even on a super busy friday night. Actually needed reservations.

We came to DTH after a recommendation and it did not disappoint. I am a veggie my wife a meat eater and there was plenty of choice for both of us. Great local beer and the most amazing staff. Highly recommend DTH to anybody visiting Edinburgh.

Nice place, bit of a walk from the old town. The burgers were good but the Canadian special poutine fries were not special but not sure what they are meant to be like. Overall experience was good but not amazing. There was a good list of specials

Food tasted great and the servers were really nice to interact with. Minor complaint that the food was a bit cooler than I would have expected when it arrived. I'd happily go back.

Overall our visit was good. The chicken wings were good. The chicken burger with buffalo sauce was really good. The Sandi’s smoked turkey club was ok but padded out with lettuce and other accompaniments where I was expecting more meat. Not bad but not fantastic

We took a baby in the middle of a busy rugby game and everyone still so welcoming and accomodating. Delicious food, great drinks and milkshakes. Love Down the Hatch.

The staff were absolutely delightful, so polite and I don't recall ever having better service. The food was majestic, so tasty and really good portion sizes, onion rings were out of this world! Drinks selection also super, some cracking craft beer on tap. I'll definitely be returning as soon as I can.

Waiting staff were friendly but seemed constantly busy so really just had time for the basics. I had the brisket burger. Burger was clearly homemade but looked a mess. Brisket itself was tough and chewy and I couldn’t swallow it. Complained but apart from the waitress saying sorry there was no offer to take anything off the bill. My son’s burger was also a mess and he wasn’t keen on eating it so left half. Poutine was ok but looked chucked together and I’ve had a lot better. For what it was, it was quite expensive and unfortunately I wouldn’t go back again.

As soon as you walk in the door you are transported to Canada! I love the theme and decor of the place 🇨🇦 Great food although maybe less value than other similar options around but it is worth it for the whole vibe and to finally try Poutine 🍲

Over priced food and drink service was terrible,ended up receiving 2 free bottles of beer because they forgot about our order,was really looking for to this as I had seen reviews on you tube but left extremely disappointed. In my opinion you will get a better burger from burger king

There's a new menu and it seems to do more harm than good. You can only get one size of poutine now and the one size you get is a small portion. The gravy must be a different recipe but it tasted very watery and not as flavourful as it used to. The poutine was cold for everyone on our table. The server forgot two of our orders. I had to ask three times if we could get water for the table. My burger was average. Had an ice cold bun but the insides were hot at least. Although they have a new menu, they still play the music way too loud (was a major complaint of mine in the past). And they play Netflix nature documentaries on the screen? Not even a complaint, just a really odd choice. If you want to go all in on the Canadian theme, at least play Canadian based shows. And if all of that isn't enough, I ended up paying £46 for two meals and two (bottled) Molson beers. Absolute ridiculous price for the low quality we received. Down the Hatch has been on thin ice before due to many reasons, but I always came crawling back for the good poutine. Now, since they can't even do that right, I can safely say I won't be going back to Down the Hatch again. I recommend everyone saves time (and money) and go somewhere else.
