Death by Tequila. We know, we know, muy oscuro. We don’t mean it literally, of course. After all, our vibe is all about passion, community and good times. As the saying goes, “los muertos al cajón y los vivos al fiestón” (the dead to the coffin and the living to the party). We’re so particular about great produce that we insist on growing our own at local heritage farm, Aschbrenner Acres. Small batches of special varieties you won’t find anywhere else. They may not be the easiest to grow, but they’re packed with flavor. Each day, we roll up our sleeves and get our hands in the dirt. We crunch into this, bite into that and pick only the plumpest, ripest, tastiest organic vegetables, gently seasoned by the ocean air.

The restaurant was closed and I never got notification that they closed early. It was Cinco de Mayo and hard to get a table at other filled up places. An email letting me know would have been appreciated. I have eaten there before and it was excellent food and service however.

The food is absolutely delicious, some of the best elevated Mexican cuisine we’ve ever had, and we’re from Arizona where the Mexican restaurants are plentiful. Would highly recommend the mushroom enchiladas with prawns!

Service wasn't the friendliest or accommodating and the food was terrible. Taquitos were unseasoned and soggy for something that should be fried. A stark difference from the three times I had visited this location previously.

They overbooked on Valentine’s Day, had multiple 4 tops open inside and 2 tops empty outside in the cold. They didn’t plan for Valentine’s Day at all and didn’t honor our reservation. Horrible customer service.

Really enjoyed death by tequila. Cocktails were delicious - especially their old fashioned. Loved the food too! Ambiance from decor to bartender chat was very enjoyable.

I’m really sad to write this review as my first review was so positive. I brought my group of friends here for a birthday brunch & I was really excited for them to have an experience like I previously had but I was VERY disappointed. Before I deep dive into anything, I would like to say Destiny & Parker were awesome. They worked really hard trying to maintain the amount of customers they had to service but it was obvious the restaurant was understaffed. We had to wait 10-20 minutes for drinks & instead of waiting on our server we decided to just walk up to the bar for faster service. We had to wait over 30 minutes for some of our food to come out & then was notified none of the tacos the group had ordered would be ready anytime soon. We waited an additional 20 minutes for the remaining food to come out. My friends empanadas were soggy and undercooked & the food was just okay & not hot. It was kind of embarrassing that this restaurant I hyped up to my friends & decided to bring my friend for his birthday brunch was kind of a terrible experience.

Not great, not bad. Cocktails were better than the food. The food was not bad just nothing special. The duck birria taco which is their “voted best taco” is extremely underwhelming — just bland.

First of all, you don't put mezcal in a Paloma drink. Neena needs some training about some customer service skills. Service is so bad I'm not coming back to this place ever. Also they need to hire a different DJ, the same beat for hour and half gave me a headache. Food is good, but the bad service kills all the possibilities to come back to this place. The bar needs attention, takes too long to pour a beer. I asked to get a refund, all I had was the bartender with a bad attitude saying “I needed to wait because he had other orders to complete” well you should get a different job if you can’t keep with high volume. I've been to crowded bars around Encinitas, never waited 20 minutes for a beer. Awful experience.

Street tacos were excellent - waitperson was very nice Why do you put the tips on your payment machines so high? Not even an 18% option 20 is lowest? You will lose tips with this strategy

The food is fine. The service was pleasing. The environment was very cute. The price for food was thoroughly outrageous for the quality of food served. The marketing for this place makes you think that they’re putting a creative twist in regular food, but it was all very bland. It was hard to distinguish the soft shelled crab from the chicken, which is an impressive feat. It was startling because the plating was beautiful. It felt like an Instagram driven restaurant.

Great food however their tequila selection isn’t on the menu so you can’t see prices. Ask the price before you order. We ordered tequila that is nice but not top of the line and the price was way too much. They charged more per drink than anywhere else I have ordered it. Super disappointed to be handed a $300 bill for 2 adults and 2 kids at a place like this.

The food was terrible. I told my friends we were asked to post a review. Here was the response: Tell them all about the rice and beans! ☠️ death by food… Rosarita beans! Fake NEWS! Poo in shrimp, asked for chips to eat ceviche, asked again, asked again… Margaritas are amazing. Food, not so much. Carne asada, grassa asada.

There was one server for the whole restaurant, she was doing the best she could but it was rough. Took 30 min for drinks to be made at the bar. Out of a few items of food. Not worth it in my opinion.

Went for lunch. Wasn’t too impressed. No one was there to greet us. Started looking around and found someone in the kitchen. Although the food looked really pretty, the flavors were just ok. Definitely not worth the money.

Not sure if there has been some turnover, but the service, food, and ambience (outside) was really lacking. We haven’t been here in about 6 months and we’ve always loved it. Customer service is definitely not a priority. Huge bummer

Service was non existent. Waitress never came up to us to see if we needed anything . We had to be flagging her down the whole time . It seemed like she didn’t know how to manage the tables she was given. The drinks were tasty food was alright. We would have ordered more drinks or even tried something else but we were put off by lack of service . Chips with salsa and guacamole took so long to bring to table and they didn’t charge it on the bill because of the ridiculous amount of time it took to bring out . The only thing I would maybe go back for would be the drinks and I would sit at the bar .

The service was terrible. We sat outside and asked the hostess to have somebody turn on the heater and I could see her, and she never did anything. So then, we asked our server twice and it finally got done 30 minutes later. The food was average for the price. The drinks are great, but when we ordered a second drink, it took 20 minutes to get and we had to ask 3 times for our drinks. Very disappointing and won’t go back.

I made a Thursday reservation for 7:30pm for a birthday. Our table was not ready until about 7:50, which is completely fine because we had a larger party. But, they close at 9, so at about 8:30 they turned the music off and started cleaning and stacking chairs. The ambiance was terrible and they were clearly trying to kick us out. We had only been sitting there for 40 minutes. Not happy with our experience.

It was a nice place. The food was pretty good. Our biggest complaint was that they up-charged for salsa even after buying a whole meal. Sometimes a taco needs salsa, but to have to pay $3 for a side of salsa is just cringy. Otherwise our overall experience was good and the server was nice too.

Tequilas are over-rated and expensive. Carnitas taco was excellent. The shrimp taco just ok. Servers were friendly and attentive.

The food seems overpriced for small portions and nothing super exceptional about the taste. We were a party of 4 - one of the meals was served later than the other 3- we were halfway through our meals by the time the last person received their food. We had to ask about the food arriving and were not given any extra apologies or discount due to the late food arrival. Seemed like the wait-staff didn't really care....

The hostess tried to put us on a tickets two top on the side walk while tables were available. After 5 min I asked our waitress to sit us at a 4 top that was open. Not a problem. The watermelon skull drink was super sweet and way over price. I also had a mezcal old fashion which was pretty good. The food was ok but way over price. I hope the new location is better. The DJ was trash and way to loud. The server was great and very accommodating.

Four things we tried to order on the menu were not available, and several drinks too. Door was continually left open and customers had to shut it. Not sure why they are using an outdated menu. Was embarrassing for the server. Won’t be back.

The menu has been redone and is terrible and overpriced. The restaurant was empty and we were sat next to another couple very close and we couldn’t even have a conversation because they were so loud. We used to love this place but would never go back. Two drinks, one taco and an app for $84- rip off Menu is very limited compared to the past

When we were seated at 6:00 pm they told us they had no salads and if we wanted empanadas we needed to order them right away before they ran out. We ordered drinks they were good. We ordered tacos however the featured lobster taco on their menu they had discontinued serving in early January. We ordered beans and corn to accompany our tacos however they were out of corn, he suggested sweet potatoes but we declined. The tacos were good but very small for the price. It was so loud with the music and people we couldn’t carry in a conversation. We are unlikely to visit again or recommend this restaurant. The waiter, Parker, was very apologetic for the lack of available food choices but he was very kind and attentive.

We went with our kids and the noise level was ear piercing. Couldn’t hear the waiter or each other. We visited from LA and go out with kids frequently. The waiter was yelling. Kids ordered from the kids menu and the cheese was coagulated on their dishes and the refried beans were spicy. On a kids menu. It was verified as spicy by the staff. They seemed ok with this and knew of it? Same beans they serve adults. Our meals were not good at all. I had the pork belly which had way to much sauce and the potatoes were RAW surrounding the pork belly. We ordered oysters to begin and they were the smallest oysters we’ve every seen? Like mini oysters. We showed the waiter and he felt it was noticeable too. We also ordered street corn which would have been good if it was warm. I handed the waiter $240 in cash. Walked out in the rain with my family. This is the first review I’ve written in years.

First to arrive so no one but bar tender to serve us even though we were @ table. He did a great job and the happy hour menu was great and all we ordered. We would come back as the cocktails were great and the food interesting

Had a reservation and was seated only to find after a round of drinks and appetizers that the the y ran out of tortillas and kitchen was closing. If you have supply issues maybe should know that you won’t have enough to be open?

Have been here on the weekend before and was great but during the week it’s awful , inside lights are too bright, no music , pork belly dish was cold and mostly just fat with no meat and a terribly undercooked hard veg. Cocktails were still good and staff are friendly

Worst meal I have ever had. Food was cold, food was raw, my Husband had to send his meal back after 2 bites realizing it was not cooked. He got sick the next day. It was a complete waste of $200, no one finished their meal and we were embarrassed that we recommended it as a family dinner. I would never go here again. Over priced bad food.
