We were seated promptly and that was where the good service ended! We were told in a confusing way, by our server how he was going to take our orders: first this, then that, then later the entrees, etc and then we were ignored for 20 minutes. We asked 3 times for the bread basket to be refilled and were ignored. We asked to order dessert, and even had to have the bus boy finally bring us those menus and then we were ignored another 20 minutes. So no dessert as we were tired of waiting. Hmmm.

The steaks were very good, as expected. I was however surprised at the somewhat blase level of service, and the mashed potatoes were downright soupy. I expect to receive better from a high end, expensive restaurant like Dawson’s.

We had a wonderful time! The dinner and service was extraordinary! The only thing that could be better is to not have to walk out of the restaurant to use the restroom.

While the food was excellent and the service very good, to charge $20 for a mixed drink that is 90% crushed ice was very dissatisfying.

Valet parking included with dinner. Service is professional. We were asked if we were attending an event this evening to ensure the pace of our meal was appropriate. With a reservation at 5:30 pm the large booth we requested was available. My wife ordered a lettuce wedge which included many bacon cubes, added a baked potato, and filet. The filet arrived as requested cooked medium rare and hot. This is the first time I ordered the hamburger with all the classic trimmings including fries. The patty was perfectly cooked, flavorful, moist and hot. We enjoyed the recommended Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Bell Gloss. We thought the dark chocolate gelato was exceptional. I recommend Dawson’s and believe you will enjoy dining here.

Another excellent meal at Dawson's! The food, service , wine and menu selections are wonderful. The appetizers were delicious and interesting - the deviled eggs were a favorite. The salads were fresh and tasty. The elk main course was spectacular. And of course dessert was perfect. We will be back again soon.

Brandon and Jonathan(sp?) were outstanding in their care and service tonight. Our meals were cooked to perfection and everything was delicious. Brandon even guessed that our favorite dessert was crème brûlée … how he did that I have no clue, but I had requested a surprise for our nineteenth anniversary, and he truly stepped up to the occasion. Thanks again and for sure we highly recommend this establishment. 👍

As usual the food was delicious and cooked perfectly. Ardy sets the standard for service at any restaurant, period. He makes the splendor of the food all the more enjoyable.

Our waiter was exceptional!!! They got us ii. And out for the theater. He took amazing care of us. I would highly recommend it.

Had an excellent waiter but the rest was okay or subpar. Ribeye steak was sent back as tough and inedible. Overpriced! Won’t go back.

It was an early dinner and the restaurant was quiet. But the service was great. The food was a miniature of great and satisfactory. Our choices were probably not the best. We had the deviled eggs and that was probably the best thing we ate. Next would be the Bibb lettuce salad. The onion soup was good enough. The choice of the burger was the biggest mistake. At least as fat as leaving all the condiments on it. It was charred, not my personal favorite, but it was cooked to order, medium rare. All in all I would come back, but would order a steak instead. The wine list was great.

This was the first time we dined at Dawson's. It was wonderful! We had the Bavette steak and filet mignon - cooked perfectly. Service was perfect. Our server was Brandon - he gets a 9.9 out of 10 for his service. We will definitely return for an encore meal! Keep up the great work!

I had reservations for 2 last night. I made it clear that I was celebrating my man’s birthday and requested something special for him on the info I completed online, However, when I arrived, the host only recognized that we were there for someone’s birthday, and that was it. I was disappointed, but I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to ruin our time together on his special day. Other than that, the food was delicious. He enjoyed his steak, but we had to order sides being that sides weren’t included with the meal. I found that to be strange due to the cost.

Dawson’s is the number one steak house in all of Sacramento area! The food is absolutely delicious. The service is out of this world. The ambience is beautiful and delightful.

All three of us had the New York steak with black garlic butter. The sides were creamed spinach, tater tots and mashed potatoes. The steaks were perfection and the sides were very good. Mashed potatoes were silky and smooth and the creamed spinach was one of the best we've had. Dessert was Black Forest Tiramisu, which was good and carrot cake, which tasted amazing. The carrot cake is a must order. The wait staff was friendly and extremely attentive.

Great time for my sons birthday. Three of us got the pasta and I guess I just didn’t like it. The other 2 people did. My sons loved their food. We’ve been coming to Dawsons for 30 plus years for various celebrations. Can’t wait to come again.

A great meal at Dawson's. The service was attentive, the food delicious. John was our waiter. He made the experience special. It's a pricey restaurant but the food is amazing and the portions are a good size. Wonderful place for a dinner downtown.

We had a great dinner last night. First, we were seated in a comfy, centrally located booth in the dining room. The food was delicious. Their bread service is excellent! It’s so tasty. My wife and I both started with the onion and leek soup. Their French onion is a good one. Next, I had the 8oz. filet Mignon with the truffle butter and red wine sauce. It was perfectly prepared to my requested medium rare. For a side, I went with the loaded baked potato. It was huge! It was baked perfectly, though it would have benefited by being salt crusted, rather than plain. My wife just had a house salad, which she enjoyed. Excellent selection of wines by the glass. Service was professional, attentive, and friendly.

Our server was awesome. He asked if we were attending the nearby event and made sure we were served promptly to make the show in time. Food was great. But our server put it over the top!

We enjoyed our dinners which were really good. Our server was attentive at times however when asked to take a group picture we were told by him to wait until the food is on the table for a better picture and he would take it later. The picture never happened. When asked for a certain cut with the prime rib , he said they were sold out but didn't have the courtesy to ask again. I didn't order the prime rib. I saw another complaint in another post prior to eating here about a server who wasn't very friendly but I thought it was just an off night. I don't hold grudges and still tipped him 20%. Hopefully this isn't a trend and he shows more respect for his customers instead of telling them how things should be done.

Dawson’s never disappoints. It’s consistently excellent food and outstanding service. This is certainly our go to treasure when we are in downtown and out for a special event.
