First time there with a local friend we were visiting (from Mystic- where there are LOTS of great restaurants 😉🤫). Had a res for 7. Warm & friendly greeter in most cozy/ woody / cute small bar area who immediately showed us to our perfect rabley...had requested a "cozy corner" as we'd requested! From beginning to yummy end our fab/fun server , Sarah, made it a perfect choice! From the prompt wine(s) delivered with smiles to the most delicious crunchy bread basket / great roasted Brussels w blue cheese (very generous app to share) to 3 meals ..se Shrimp& pasta special, my amazing seafood w pappardelle to his amazing duck with best risotto ever we shared happy tastes. Although desserts were very tempting ( OD'd on the bread!) we passed. Sarah brought us little chocolate treats anyway! Small bar w seats, tables and booths spread over 2 rooms, open kitchen-cozy but not tight...noise level ok ( no loud background music -yay!). Mostly all happy voices..clearly plenty of " regulars" but even we newbies felt so welcome! With the exception of a very loud guy at bar ( who left mid meal..but they are EVERYWHERE, ALAS!!) very pleasant ....we'd go there weekly if lived nearby! Great job, David 388 in South Portland!

I had the duck which was delicious as were the potstickers and Arancini balls. The staff was extremely accommodating to my granddaughter. Wonderful food in a warm and casual environment.

Server was so helpful in wine and food recommendations. Duck was fabulous; pappardelli pasta also fabulous. Pecan pie dessert was great, too; server wrote Happy Birthday in chocolate syrup on dessert dish for us. Great dinner; great experience.

Our second time at David’s 388 after an initial visit 7 or 8 years earlier. The atmosphere remained warm. Inviting and quiet. The service was just right, with a server who provided just the right level of attention. The food was very good but dropped a tad from the first visit which might have been due to my menu choice more than anything else. I reconfirmed that truffle oil isn’t my favorite flavor. My wife’s choice was excellent she said. We’d return anytime.

Food is inventive and exceptional, from the tuna crudo appetizer and beet and arugula salad to the pecan dessert. The sesame salmon and Cajun tuna special entrees were both fabulous. My partner enjoyed the Cape-hattan cocktail. We look forward to our next visit!
