Dauphine’s, a restaurant inspired by the playful spirit and iconic cuisine of New Orleans is led by Chef Kristen Essig, who called the city home for over two decades. The Dauphine’s menu pays homage to the diverse cultural influences and rich culinary traditions of New Orleans while utilizing Mid-Atlantic ingredients. The beverage program is developed in partnership with New Orleans native Neal Bodenheimer – owner of Cure, the 2018 James Beard Foundation Award winner for Outstanding Bar Program – and offers a menu of both classics and innovative riffs. The expansive indoor dining features a large sunken dining room anchored by a custom raw bar and wood charcuterie case, a wrought-iron pavilion linking the bar and dining, and an intimate mezzanine with private dining. Bookend by two outdoor spaces, Dauphine's features a 30 seat outdoor bar with a custom New Orleans-inspired tiled fountain and a separate covered dining patio for 80 guests.

My friend and I went for dinner on a Saturday evening after 6pm. Although it was not crowded in the dining area, the first floor bar was full. We were quickly seated and staff quickly provided water and menus. The food and wine selection were satisfying. We ordered bread first which came before the food. It was a nice selection. But, the meals (chicken and fish) were very tasty and filling. Overall, it was an exceptional experience. The only problem was parking. Most of the garages were closed. But, we used Park app and found a spot around the corner.

The food was fine--if I had paid $50 - $75 per person, I would not be writing this review. We ordered oysters to start, porkchops, crawfish-stuffed chicken, and the veggie pasta. A bottle of wine. A few beers... four people. The oysters were weirdly tasteless and watery. The pork chops were dry. The chicken was super rich--too much. The pasta was fine. A bit runny, but fine. Again, four people... the bill was $500, before tip. Wild! The value just was not there for us. The food is fine, it's just not worth what they are charging. Sorry!

Lovely dinner outside with heaters. Each dish was a delight. Especially enjoyed the chocolate Chickory dessert with coconut maple ice cream to complement the lighter fish meal. Service warm and on point.

Overall, it wasn't bad. Problem from the start was had a reservation for high table that was not honored. Then, to make matter worse, without an apology, we were sat in the upstairs section in the middle of the floor. To add to the insult, drinks came after new people were seated next to us, who received their drinks before we did. Service was not very good to say the least. Food however, was excellent.

The craft cocktails and mocktails are good. The sweet cream butter that came with the bread service was delicious. The baked alaska was outstanding! But overall the flavors of the dishes are quite muted, relative to their cocktails. I think I might have been better able to taste the food if I’d just stuck with water. Our server was phenomenal, though, and the environment was so elegant. If I were to go again, it would be for the drinks and desserts with good company.

This is a poor excuse for creole cuisine. Their gumbo is NOT gumbo (I am not talking about the potato salad, just the actual “gumbo” portion). We’ve ordered other dishes and it was all the same. It tasted like someone cooked it and then poured water over the flavors. There was no soul in the food. Additionally, the waitress never came over after the food came out until the very end. Not to mention the 4% surcharge for the restaurant to continue… I mean it is 2024, four years past the pandemic and we are all experiencing inflation. If you’re going to charge an additional 4% that does not go towards tipping, AT LEAST make the food taste good! Overall disappointing in food and service.
