Ouvert depuis octobre 1990, le Dakota était alors un pionnier de la gastronomie sur la rive nord du lac Pontchartrain. Il propose des plats influencés par les parfums intenses de la cuisine créole et la Louisiane contemporaine. Ses spécialités, aux parfums mêlés du sud-ouest, de la Californie et de l'Asie, sont préparées avec des ingrédients frais de saison produits dans la région. La carte des vins met à l'honneur les domaines de Californie et d'Oregon et quelques crus traditionnels européens et australiens. Décoré dans des tons ocre et agrémenté de bois d'acajou, ce restaurant offre un cadre élégant et confortable pour une expérience gastronomique d'exception. Absolutely amazing! We loved our time at Dakota. We had the appetizer special - Arancini- soooo good!!! The grilled Caesar salad was the best I’ve had. Our main entrees - duck and pork chops were incredible. The staff was kind and friendly. Really enjoyed ourselves.

No wine list, the martinis were not good, the server was good but the rest was just not up old Dakota standards... just no "wow" factor which used to get every time.

This is priced like a premium dining experience and it delivers. The ambiance is great, the menu, while somewhat limited, has enough to please anyone. The service was well paced and appropriately attentive. The food, however, is the real star. Everything was exceptional and attractively presented. If you're looking for a fine dining experience, the Dakota delivers.

For a pre-Mother’s Day dinner, meal and service were great. My wife ordered the crab/brie soup and salad. My mussels in red curry sauce and the soft shell crab were very good. One downside to the afternoon. Dakota has a couch/chairs around a coffee table. What started out as six cackling hens grew to ten or twelve obnoxious Guineas. The manager asked to quiet down and motioned with his hands downward. The Guineas started to imitate the manager and the loud cackling continued. The tables next to us all had reactions to these obnoxious women. In the future, I will ask to be seated in another to avoid the ruckus. It would not have bothered me if the manager asked the hen conclave to leave. I will back. Again, good and service was great. Neighbors not so good.

The food was excellent. It is a bit pricey. The parking is difficult to find. Yes, we will be backk for lunch. Sean was an excellent waiter. He was very kind, patient, knowledgeable and friendly.

I would call it a successful revival. Ambience and vibe very good. Food outstanding as well but slightly overpriced. Service was excellent. Will definitely return.

Waitress was wonderful and restaurant had a very nice ambiance. Ordered the steak special. No seasoning at all. Bland piece of meat. Soft shell crab was excellent.

I do understand the strict dress code & it’s tradition but having to watch a man take his tevas off and put on socks & shoes right at the front entrance as we were being checked in was just plain tacky & rude.

I took my wife to Dakota for our 25th anniversary though we are king time residents this was our first time. Our waiter Mathew was outstanding explaining the specials all the entrees and answered all of our questions. He was even not proud enough to admit he did it know wine as well as his co-worker who was a Somalier and she picked the perfect red for us. The mussels were prepared to perfection with a sauce I wish I had a whole loaf of bread to soak up. The wife dis the charred ceasar salad while I went for the soft shell crab with an awesome stuffing. The whole staff was by our table at one time or another and made this monumental milestone for us to be a most enjoyable night. Totally recommend

A double birthday celebration was the reason for dining at the “new” Dakota. What a wonderful evening and so glad we celebrated at this restaurant. The environment was perfect. Great atmosphere, excellent service and outstanding food. The 4 of us began with the signature crab/Brie soup. It is phenomenal. Creamy and full of lump crabmeat. This is a must if going for the first time. My wife had duck breast and the rest of the party had the redfish….with a wonderful sauce. Our server checked on us regularly as well as the floor manager making sure we were happy. The dessert was cheesecake and a mariner sauce and the other was crepes and strawberry and wonderful sauce. The food was prepared perfectly. The redfish was perfectly prepared. We will return for sure and recommend the Dakota to everyone. Great experience.

Such a fabulous meal and wonderful staff!!! The Hostess who seated us was a delight and we also loved the bartender! Waitress was very educated about the menu and her direction was spot on!!! Great exerience!!!

This was not our first time at Dakotas but the first to the new location. Finding the entrance was a chore but after that everything was magical. The service was impeccable and out waiter, Chris, was ever so attentive and engaging. Thanks for a wonderful afternoon. We glowed all day afterwards.

The Crab and Brie soup lived up to the hype and the deviled eggs and oyster starter was delish. Entrees were good but not necessarily memorable. Dessert was good however disappointed that the Bananas Fosters was not prepared table side.

I went to Dakota because I hear it was a beautiful restaurant with great food. My date and I didn’t get to eat at Dakota, instead we were seated in a side barn (crappy offshoot) where there were six tables and only one was full a five top of loud people. We were seated at a two top exactly 7 inches away. All of the other tables were empty in this side barn. The wait staff kept squeezing through to serve the loud people and hitting my dates chair (no excuse me I am sorry) so we literally moved our table and chairs about a foot away. Worse table in the house with plenty of others available. The waitress in her first greeting complained about 200 people coming for Easter and said hopefully she will be able to see her little girl later in the day. Her service got worse. The veal with three sauces was a let down Two very small pieces of medium grade veal who was tough. We skipped desert to get out asap but before we left we took a walk to the real Dakota which looked great beautiful dining room with tables spaced out nicely and everyone looked dressed nicely. In the barn, we were the only two who seemed to dress appropriately for a restaurant of this caliber. Oh well my money will be spent elsewhere.

We got the oysters, Brie & crab soup, foie gras, bone marrow, arancini, tuna tartar. Entrees duck confit, filet& lobster. What I’m getting at it we tried a great portion of the menu, and I think the sizing of the dishes could’ve been larger especially for the entrees & the entrées Also, with the lobster, I feel like that the majority was mushrooms. Also duck confit i can eat 2 of those. Look maybe I'm fat lard that likes to over indulge. I don't know but all the food was delicious. I just wish there was more food. And there was some Guy yells at his son “JJ”. JJ was well behaved not sure why he as yelling across the dinning room. Service was great i really enjoy the way they set all the dishes down at once:)

Craft Cocktails were delicious and the food was even better. We sat outside to escape the lively dining areas. Dakota is one of our top 3 favorite restaurants on the Northshore!

Everything was exceptional—the food, the service, & the setting. I truly love champagne which I ordered for our dining experience. I was disappointed when the champagne was served in a wine glass😳. In such a nice restaurant I expect to be served in a champagne flute or the traditional champagne glass.

Dakota is really emerging as the clear leader of fine dining in downtown Covington & the Northshore. Every element of your experience is elegant & finely tuned + the menu always has really nice surprises along with their long standing classics… Excellent all around.

The new location, upgraded menu, and comprehensive wine list have restored this Northshore gem. We were quite impressed from start-to-finish and it will be added to our Top 3 in the area. Their prices do reflect the need for an immediate return on investment. Ask for server Matthew…He is awesome!!!

Dakota Restaurant, now relocated to a superb location in downtown Covington, LA embodies Kenny Lacour's vision about fine dining, surely influenced by world class restaurateur colleagues about whom his experience is encyclopedic. Finest dining for ourselves is when of all the senses are satiated. Dakota's street front says 'curb appeal cozy’ although the actual entrance commences with convenient ox-lot parking then a pleasant stroll across a substantial, paved walking bridge that lands at the formal side entrance of the restaurant. My wife and I were immediately seated. Her view was looking out to the main dining and a very active bar in the distance. The attractive glass enclosed wine storage racks framed my view of her. The restaurant seemed near capacity, yet the sound level at our table was conducive to normal conversation. We were at Dakota's to relax, dine and enjoy each other's company. Imagine that! Kudos to Dakota's waitstaff for proper, never hurried and conscientious service of Chef Kim Krenglie's creatively prepared and delicious foods, beverage. The Dakota environment is designed to promote indulgement of all the senses. Even Kenny visited a bit. He is a man living the dream and Dakota's is how he shares that vision. If any of his mother's deserts are featured that makes for an excellent finish as it was for me. When we crossed back over the foot bridge we knew an even better Dakota’s had returned as will we.

We were very happy when Dakota re-opened in their new location and made reservations for celebration of 2 birthdays. We were immediately greeted and shown to our table. Wait staff know how to treat diners; always available for water refills, questions, etc. Love the service where everyone is served together at the same time. We were disappointed on the high prices of the steaks, as that is one menu item we were were all looking forward to. We instead chose other dishes, which were all delicious. Overall, we were happy with the food, etc. But we will be going elsewhere for steaks. Also, as it was a Saturday night, it was very crowded, and the tables were placed too close together for our preference.
