The team behind Crave Fishbar, NYC's first 100% sustainable seafood restaurant, is enhancing their reputation as the go-to fish brand by opening Crave Sushi Bar, directly next door to their midtown location of Crave Fishbar, and in keeping with the ethos of the group, have a focus on sustainable domestic fish.Items such as Local Sea Scallop Nigiri with beurre noisette and celtic sea salt; Kona Kampachi Sashimi - shiso yuzu pesto, topped with popped quinoa; Dressed Hudson Valley Steelhead Trout Sashimi highlight Chef Mitgang’s bold approach to the cuisine.Beverage program is overseen by Brian Owens with a large sake selection, cocktails paired for the food menu, Japanese whiskys, and tequila, which Owens believes is a great pairing.The space is centered by a sushi bar, comfy booths and banquettes with seating for 60 people. Their responsible and ethical sourcing practices carry over into the materials used for the design: weathered metals, textured woods, an oceanic color palette.

    The food and drinks variety was over the top in combining taste and value. As a novice Japanese food connoisseur I was most surprised in the happy hour menu with tasty Japanese bites which we savored so much we continued to main menu without losing a beat.

    This was among the freshest sushi I've ever had. The sea bream with charred eggplant had a beautiful smoky flavor. The oysters (chef Todd is known for his oysters!) with sake mignonette and hatch green chilies had just the right amount of kick to them. And the best, was the scallop with brown butter - the scallops were sweet and the butter added just the right touch!

    the service, the food, and the decor were all perfect!!! definitely my new favorite sushi spot. the brown butter scallop nigiri is completely divine.

    Amazing sushi! Highly recommend the Local Scallop nigiri. Haven’t ever had scallop nigiri that good!

    It was exceptional. The fish was extremely fresh and delicous. Not to mention the portion size was generous given the price point and the area. I think it’s the best new sushi restaurant in the midtown east area for casual, light Japanese fare.

    So delicious and so fresh! Much better than your average sushi spot. 10/10 recommend. Definitely get the local scallop nigiri! And the lobster roll!

    This was some of the best sushi I’ve had. The rolls were so unique and delicious. The warm crab roll, the scallop nigiri with browned butter and lemon, and the yellowtail with jalopeno were my faves. Would definitely recommend to a friend and cannot wait to go back!
