To entertain my friends from Tokyo, I looked up to the cozy small restaurant in west village. Cotenna is one of the best decisions I have ever made in NYC. We ordered grilled octopus salad, tuna tartare, seafood pasta and gnocchi with chocolate truffle. Tiramisu, baked cheese cake and warm chocolate mousse were all delicious. It was very affordable. The beautiful girl who served us was so kind and made us relaxed. I found a gem in NYC!!

Food was delicious and reasonably priced, amazing neighborhood atmosphere. And need to give a HUGE THANKS to the employee who ran after us for three blocks with the backpack we left. Incredible service.

We ate 4 dishes. Two were very good (the shrimp & crab cake and the octopus salad), one was OK (the daily pasta) and one was mediocre (the warm mozzarella wrapped with prosciutto). However, our enjoyment was marred by an issue with the wine. During the meal, we sampled two types of white wine. The first was sufficiently cold, but the second was not cold enough and thus unenjoyable. We told this to the waitress, who replied: "This is how the wine should be", and did not offer to exchange it. She suggested we put an ice cube in the wine... We have drunk white wine, around the world, for about 40 years and have never encountered such an inadequate and insulting reaction. I would also mention that the restaurant is tiny and crowded and the noise level is somewhat above the ideal. Overall, our experience was not enjoyable enough to return to this restaurant.

We celebrated an impromptu wedding luncheon here. The staff made it a special event. The food and service was wonderful as expected but it was the extra small details and attitude of the staff that made it fabulous. Thank you!

Fab italian neighbourhood restaurant with a varied menu. All of the pasta dishes we ordered were delicious, the staff were very attentive and helpful. Highly recommend for good quality pasta dishes! 😀

We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated almost immediately at the bar. After a few minutes, the waitress told us the specials. She came back after probably 5 more minutes and took our orders. We asked about house wines and she grabbed a menu she had neglected to give us. Our food arrived fairly quickly. I had the spicy shrimp rigatoni. Pasta was cooked perfectly and sauce was very good, but I wouldn’t call it spicy. I do think the shrimp was overcooked as the texture was a bit chewy. My boyfriend enjoyed his lobster ravioli. No bread was served to us. So maybe you had to order that as an app? And no water was ever offered to us. So since we were at the bar with the water bottles right in front of us, we ended up just helping ourselves. Overall the price was really affordable. The venue is nice. But service could have been better.

Our first time here. Great experience. The menu is creative and inspiring! Not everyday Italian. We shared a lamb chop appetizer and beer salad. Bothe excellent. Main was shrimp artichoke pasta. Fresh tasting Service was personal and efficient. Good NYC experience

This address was recommended by the Michelin guide. However what we are was nothing but short from a Michelin reco. Watery tomato tasteless with a plastic like mozzarella. Then ok pasta but nothing crazy. Yes it is pretty cheap but for a reason. The service was good and friendly. Lively atmosphere

This was our third time at Cotenna but it might be our last. The service and ambiance were good but our pasta dishes left a lot to be desired. Case in point: their Rigatoni e Gamberi (spicy grilled shrimp, garlic, tomato) NOT GRILLED, NOT SPICY AND NOT A HINT OF GARLIC. We dined with two other couples having a great time and enjoying the complimentary bread and asked for more which prompted an awkward exchange between the staff and made us feel uncomfortable for asking.

PROS Good food—shrimp appetizer, mixed salad, spaghetti w/ meatballs, shrimp pasta, tiramisu. Cozy ambience w/ tables, bar, and counter seating. Friendly staff. CONS Ate at window counter, which was fine, just not an abundance of space. And not sure who was responsible, but had to beg food runner, as they came out with each course, to remove dirty dishes from prior course, so we would have space on counter for the new course.

Our first visit and it was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Firstly, very sweet and gracious staff. Nice selection , though limited, menu. Daily specials expand the options. Tuna tartare was fresh and delicious. Burrata and prosciutto was adequate, though admittedly our bar is high having recently visited Italy. The branzino special was also fresh and delicious and the linguini vongole (though with Manila clams and not Littlenecks as is preferred) was very tasty. Limited wine selection but not insanely prices and the Gavi we tried (recommended by the hostess) was delicious and a great complement to our dishes. This is a small, limited seating venue (a few tables and some bar seating) and we likely benefitted on our visit from the inclement weather which probably resulted in a slow night. When crowded, this spot may lose the intimate element which we so enjoyed.

Everything was just stellar. Will definitely be back. My only recommendation would be that over that last table by the kitchen where we sat. The lightbulb is a different color than the rest of the bulbs in the room, and the lighting is not good on that one table as a result. seeing that you have so few tables it would be great if you could change that bulb!

Hands down, Cotenna is by far one of the BEST restaurants we have dined at. The food was just perfect and consistent to our last visit 1 month ago. We will continue to return sharing this secret with more family and friends!

The worst possible service. I arrived on time to learn that they had given away my table. They then told me to go to the ‘sister’ restaurant Aria across the street. The menu was supposed to be the same. When we went to the new place, the menu was different, the chef was not a Michelin Starr chef, so basically it was all a lie. When we complained they said not to worry that they would find a table at cotenna …. No problem… so we went back to the original restaurant where again they told us that our table was not gonna be available. At that point we left. They did not even apologize. Will never go again

Very small space so we were seated at the high table on stools which was not relaxing and convenient after a long day. The food was moderate and there were no prices on the Dishes of the day, nor were we informed about them by the waiter, so we ended up paying more than expected.
