Compline is an award-winning wine and food destination in the heart of downtown Napa, created by veteran sommeliers Matt Stamp and Ryan Stetins. Our chalkboard menu focuses on Californian cuisine, emphasizing the bounty and flavors of Northern California.

Our 500-selection wine list focuses on handpicked local favorites and classic bottles from all over the world. A separate retail shop selection allows our guests to grab a bottle to go.

We want to bring the Napa community and visitors to our valley together to eat good food, enjoy great wine, and experience our relaxed downtown Napa hospitality.

We offer communal dining experience for private parties, consisting of four courses for dinner and two or three courses for lunch. Menus are highly seasonal and include meat, fish, and vegetarian options. We can seat 26 in our private room and 50 for a restaurant buyout. The $25 prepayment serves as a deposit and will be credited towards your bill. For larger groups, Chef Jammir creates a lavish four-course menu, inspired by the season and our daily availability of local produce, meat, and fish. The menu begins with crudités, duck fat fries, and other snacks served family style. Each guest may choose from several options for the following courses. With advance notice, we are always happy to accommodate vegetarians, gluten-fee diners, and other guests with dietary preferences when writing your menu.

For larger parties at lunch, Chef Jammir creates a two-course menu supplemented by our famous duck fat fries and crudités. The menu is paced at your preference—we can promptly serve a business group that needs to head back to the office, or we can provide a longer, leisurely, and celebratory lunch experience. Each guest may choose from several options for both courses. Great menu, wine list and energy, but a couple issues for me. First, restaurant was sold out of two things my group of 6 would have ordered. Also, the wine-by-the-glass pours were much too light, as if trying to squeeze 6-7 glasses out of one bottle. Simply charge more if you want, but don't underserve me.

I ate here in 2023 and considered it one of the best dinners I have had in many years. Our group went back in 2024 and while we had a lovely dinner, it was not quite like the experience of dining in 2023 when the restaurant was so new that I believe they did not yet have the outdoor seating. It was still a fantastic meal, and might be best when they were not quite so busy. On a Friday night at 7:15 they were pretty packed. Still this restaurant is a real gem and a treat and I would likely go back when I am there next year. I would reserve ahead to get a table indoors unless the weather is really warm. The heaters worked well and we were not cold, but the indoors would be preferred most evenings of the year.

The wine list is the winner here. Lots of variety. However, the service is slow and lacking. I came with a private party and it took a long time for our food - 3 hours in total. We were also pouring our own wine, which is not ideal when you’re spending $200+ a bottle. I expect a much higher level of service experience and better food in Napa.

Gnocchi for ants. The portions were very small and the food was not worth $30 a plate. The food took forever to come out of the kitchen. not worth going to.

Meal took WAY too long to get to us. One of the 4 courses was mixed up: a burger we ordered was replaced with a steak (poorly seadoned and frankly, over priced on the menu) the misding item was a burger we were told would take 20 more minutes to arrive). We declined the burger they “comped” the steak, or so we thought - it actually was added to the check. We dont think it was nefarious intent so much as it was ineptitude. Server seemed very inexperienced. Poured a glass of wine that was MAYBE 2oz. Did take counsel well - was not defensive and poured additional to the standard pour. Owner did offer another glass of wine on the house as well as buying desert. Will I go back? Yes…Why? Because they owned their substandard service. Clearly they think they think they csn do better and I believe they can. Overall this restaurant has a minimalist decor, homemade ingredients with choices that are varied just enough to where there is something for everyone but not too many choices where quality suffers. Don’t expect cocktails - they only do beer/wine no license for spirits. I would recomnend viewing the menu before going

The meal was simply bad. Everything was cooked incorrectly,. The steak tartar was cut very unevenly with huge pieces the size of a quarter and small pieces tinier than a dime. The inconsistency made it very chewy and difficult to eat, and it was devoid of flavor. The pasta was undercooked, completely raw in the middle, and had to be sent back. The tenderloin was completely overcooked making it dry and chewy. And they forgot to bring out the side dish we ordered. Our table was up against the service area, which made it very loud, and my seat was bumped the entire meal by the staff and people headed to the bathroom. At the price point, I would’ve expected at least one dish to have been correct.

Compline serves up an eclectic menu. We had the yellowtail crud as a starter -- extremely fresh and tasty. We also nibbled on duck fat fries -- a must. Some of the best fries in the Valley. Mains: Mt. Lassen trout with turnips and fennel was delicious. The papardelle with lamb rags and black olives was outstanding. Both are new to the menu. Service was attentive and helpful. Great wine list!

Great little bistro restaurant and wine bar in Downtown Napa. Perhaps 8 or so comfort food entrees all prepared very skillfully, and a nice selection of appetizers, sides, and desserts. Service is friendly and attentive without being pushy. Highly recommended!

Visited Compline in Napa for the second time, and it didn’t disappoint! The carbonara is phenomenal – just the right balance of flavors, and the burger? Simply mouthwatering. Add to that the top-notch service, and you've got yourself a must-visit spot. Compline is now cemented on my Napa itinerary!

Food was good, service was less than stellar. Slow plus non-attention especially regarding beverages. One of our party ordered a glass of wine that never appeared, another ordered a beer that took forever to receive and a few of us weren’t offered a new order after completing our first drink - list sales opportunity.

Hamburger was good. Brussel sprouts were in a too sweet sauce. Salad was tasty--nice parmesan cheese. Rockfish also had a sweet sauce that wasn't very good.

Downtown location very convenient to lively street activities. Beautiful setting. Regrettably, my porchetta, while carefully prepared, was dry on the inside and a bit too rich (fatty) on the outside. My wife’s sole was underwhelming. Not bad to send back to the kitchen, but not remarkable enough to recommend. They were very thoughtful and gracious in honoring us with a glass of champagne for our wedding anniversary.

We attended a special event in collaboration with Chef Diego Isunza Kahlo from Mexico City. It was an 8 course extravaganza with wine pairings. Opportunities like this are one reason why we love living in Napa. We basically got to experience 24 hours of Mexico City cuisine and only had to travel 10 minutes away from our home. Matt and Ryan always nail the wine pairings, and I was able to purchase a bottle of the white burgundy that was paired with one of the courses. The items on the regular menu for lunch and dinner always have that great Napa vibe. They partner with local farmers, ranchers, and purveyors. Service is friendly, and they take advantage of their outdoor patio for seating when the weather permits. Highly recommend!

Our food and wine experiences at Compline are always delicious ,fun and interesting, including last night's 8-course Mexico City meal with guest Chef Diego Kahlo. The food was delicious and creative, as were the drink pairings. We enjoyed talking to Chef Kahlo, who came out of the kitchen to mingle with guests.

It would have been a perfect dining experience if the noise level hadn’t been so high. I don’t understand why restaurants think that that is enjoyable for anyone. Too many hard surfaces. So people talk louder to be able to be heard and it gets louder and louder and louder.

Chef Diego Kahlo’s food was both superb and highly interesting/informative. He, and the Compline management, were very helpful and charming in answering questions. A brilliant idea on behalf of both Chef Kahlo and Compline. A delightful evening.

We offer communal dining experience for private parties, consisting of four courses for dinner and two or three courses for lunch. Menus are highly seasonal and include meat, fish, and vegetarian options. We can seat 26 in our private room and 50 for a restaurant buyout. Free AV, wifi, and a 65" TV monitor available for use in our private room.
