Commis in Oakland is a Two-Star Michelin** rated fine dining restaurant by James Beard Foundation Nominated Chef James Syhabout that serves a multi-course Tasting Menu.

Diners at Commis are invited to linger for 2.5 to 3 hours over an multi-course meal in a warm, comfortable and relaxing dining room appointed by glowing glass light pendants, dark furniture, bare walnut tables, dim lit candles and floral arrangements.

Delivered by the attentive service staff and sommeliers, the cuisine of Commis showcases some of the best Northern California ingredients that are in season through modern and classic cooking techniques. The cuisine aims to bridge the flavors, textures and temperatures of the East and West with every course with the intention to excite and satisfy.

Commis is a Two-Michelin Star rated fine dining restaurant destination located in Oakland by Chef James Syhabout. We offer a multi-course tasting menu for $225 per person. An optional globe-trotting beverage pairing is available for $119 per person. We require all guest including young patrons to participate in the tasting menu when sitting in the dining room. A $100 per guest security deposit is collected upon booking the reservation. The deposit will be credited towards your final check after your experience at the restaurant.

Commis remains the peak dining destination in the East Bay. It's simply the best. Friendly, delicious, delightful. It had been a number of months since we had been there, and it was fabulous to return.

Service was uncharacteristically off - the shellfish allergy was forgotten about in the preparation of the add-on item, thankfully we knew about the typical (shellfish) ingredients in XO sauce. Still, this is one of our favorite places - we'll be back!

I came here for dinner for my wife’s birthday. The food with the wine pairing was next level. It was absolutely amazing.

A place to feel special. Happy for all the seafood dishes. Loved the sea bream & we were the first to try a new menu item - the eel on the taro puree - and gave it glowing reviews (i.e., heavy happy nodding + MmmMmms). Husband loved the coddled egg + bread (he ate the whipped butter like it was a dip), and the one-bite, gelatinous rice pork dumpling. And the desserts! Loved the mix & the pineapple/chocolate bonbon won for the me. Husband had fun with the wine pairing (6 glasses). Only suggestion would be a menu during the meal. I understand the surprise element, but I couldn't digest the entirety of the dishes' components when the server verbalized them. Plus it's fun to pick out the unfamiliar pieces and discuss them with your fellow diner. Helps you remember the new things. Obviously didn't ruin the experience. We poured over the menu we got home.

This was our first visit to Commis so we did not know what to expect. We had the prix fix menu with the wine pairing. Every single course was delightful and delicious. All wine pairings were the best I have ever had. We thoroughly enjoyed our entire time there and loved the food and the wine.
