Nested in Uphams Corner, Dorchester, we are a cozy cafe by day offering casual counter service transforming into an intimate and lively 30-seat restaurant by night with a full bar. Our food is a celebration of the ingredients and flavors of the African diaspora — global comfort food — connected from Asia to the Americas. We are a Black-owned, immigrant-owned, and woman-owned business. We believe that food is a vital aspect of community building and we envision a place that is actively engaged in highlighting the culture, art, and history of our community.

One of the best and most unique restaurants in Boston. Food (duck/monkfish/ trout at our table) were seasoned and prepared superbly. We loved our server who was knowledgeable and attentive------ we'll return!

I wish I could lose my memory just so I could experience this place for the first time again. The food was nothing short of orgasmic. It’s hard to describe but I actually tasted every bite on every inch of my tongue and I tasted a different flavor each time. Our waitress was so kind and so funny. The atmosphere and vibe was a 10/10. I would recommend this place to anyone and I can’t wait to go back.

Despite having a reservation, we arrived and they could not seat us. And I could not make another reservation because I already had this reservation . It was an important client dinner and a major inconvenience. They didn't even comp the beer my husband ordered while we were trying to figure out what was going on.

I missed my reservation by accident but the lady at the front desk managed to get me seating at the bar area. The food was amazing, I love the jerk duck especially, didn't know the rice on the side could be as good as the entree itself. Would highly recommend this spot for any occasion!

Loved the space, loved the vibe. Just perfect! The food was very good and the menu interesting though could have a few more items, and a few not spicy things (I love spice but my guest not at all). Our waitress was delightful though she seemed to be overcommitted so we waited for things a bit more than normal. We enjoyed catching up so it didn't really matter but can be a issue for others.

Excellent food, excellent service. Intimate environment. My only complaint would be the size of the cocktails (aperitif size) for the price paid.

CK certainly earned its status on the James Beard finalist list! It was amazing! Every single item that the 4 of us ordered was delicious! All the food was cooked to perfection. All the seasonings were exquisite. Drinks were unique. The waitress Nicki was wonderful! We loved the ambience and overall vibe with the music etc. Prices were reasonable but we weren't informed there would be a 5% kitchen charge, no biggie tho. Can't wait to return!

We visited Comfort Kitchen with our 17 year old daughter, her dear friend and a couple that we know love good food as much as we do and we ha d great time. We booked the special 6 person booth in the back. It was a little more quiet than the rest of the place - which had pros and cons because the energy and people watching at CK is really g great - and it was comfy and roomy for 4 tall and two short-ish people. We ordered all of the hors d'ouerves to share and a couple of the drinks - the sour sop one is my favorite for interesting flavors and beauty. Everyone scarfed down the appetizers - vegetarians and omnivores alike. There were two great specials, one of which - the short ribs - we tried and was a hit. My daughter and I split the eggplant and the rice cake (?) and both were spicy and good. The desserts were simple and yummy. Everyone preferred the cheesecake to the ice-cream because of the texture but both had great flavor. The service was warm and welcoming and well worth making a reservation well in advance.

The food and the drinks had very good and interesting flavors. I had hoped for it to go beyond interesting and I wanted to be wowed with great and exciting food. I thought the okra was the best of the apps. Very good, fresh nicely fried. Good sauce. Plaintain chips and jerk sliders were good. Friends had yassa chicken and short ribs which they enjoyed and I tasted both and agree. Maybe I was just disappointed with the monkfish curry special. The fish was overcooked ant too salty for me the finish. The sauce had cilantro after I was told it didn’t. I should have said I was allergic instead of an aversion. I could have had something else and better enjoyed my meal.

Starting with the good - all the drinks we tried were incredible. Appreciate the non-alcoholic options too! Absolutely yummy! The vegetarian dishes were meh. Okra was a tad soggy and the sauce could be less tangy. It didn’t complement the okra at all. The potato cakes came short of wowing since the versions I’ve had in South Asia (which seem to be the inspiration behind this dish) were so much better. Apparently the duck was amazing and my spouse really enjoyed it! Nice and delicate cheesecake, not cloyingly sweet, but flavorful! Now for the service - the service was truly strange. I asked if I could hold on to a menu to read more about what I wanted to order next and the story of the place and was told no. The guy told me he would get me an older version (why? it wouldn’t have the updated menu and information right? What is the point of suggesting that and not even following up on the offer? I have so many questions!).This is the strangest response I’ve ever come across to a common request to hold on to a menu, considering why even provide such a menu if you are not going to let the customers read what is on it? What a strange hill to die on lol. I have dined across restaurants all over the world and this is one of the stranger responses I have received to a simple request. An ok experience overall. Boston has loads of better places! If you are not frequenting this place for the drinks, I suggest skipping. If you are vegetarian I suggest skipping.

Comfort Kitchen was overall a good experience. The flavors were very good, but food was a little bit salty. We really loved the baobab non-alcoholic mocktail. We tried the kafta which was amazing, the shortrib which tasted good but was a little dry, and the duck which was also tasty but a little saltier. We finished with the pistachio ice cream which was a really generous portion but we did thought was okay when mixed with cardamom. The kitchen was definitely busy but the front of the house was lacking. There was only one person that was taking orders for all tables. When we first got seated at our table, it took around 15 minutes to get greeted by the waiter or water served to our table . We waited quite a while to get our check too after finishing dinner. The host was very nice but definitely busy. Overall we would try Comfort Kitchen again, but likely for lunch or brunch.

So we had heard really great things about this cute little place in Uphams corner and were psyched to be able to get a reservation. it did not disappoint. The wines were fantastic by the glass and Sumac Sour Libation was so different and delicious. I really enjoyed it. The food had so many great spices- a unique flavor profile. The jackfruit sliders were really good. Their homemade ice cream pistachio cardamom so delicious. I really enjoyed the Yassa chicken other people had the trout and it was done so well, just can't say enough good things.

I don’t have enough good things to say!! The ambience was laid back but aesthetically pleasing. My cocktail - black Caesar - was a 10/10 combination of complex umami flavors. We ordered the jerk duck, lamb kafta, and yassa chicken. All tender and such interesting flavors. The staff were all so nice. Love this place and will be going back!

My experience at comfort kitchen was disappointing. The food did not meet the hype. I’ve eaten African food in Africa, and I eat at many wonderful restaurants in the Boston Cambridge area. The fish was too salty and overcooked. Considering it was an African menu the food was bland. There were some interesting combinations and the attempt Was admirable. Th When I pointed this out to the staff, including the manager, they seem to discount my feedback, but did say “we will inform the chef. “It is unlikely that I will return. The cocktails were superb.

Amazing!! Everything was delicious and flavorful. From start to finish, all the dishes we had were standouts; plantain chips and nido dip, roasted duck, monk fish in a curry broth and the basque cheesecake. The drinks and wines were perfect. The staff were helpful and friendly. Will be back.

The hype is well earned and well deserved. This restaurant is actually exceptional. The drinks were impressive. The dinner was indescribably good...it was like...that scene in Ratatouille when Anton Ego eats Remy's cooking. It didn't just taste good (which it did). It was also deeply emotionally good. The desert wasn't too sweet. It was just right. The portions of everything were not too much or not enough. They were just right. The price point was fair. The decor and ambiance were nice. The staff were friendly. The service was fantastic....I don't know what else to tell you. This is just a damn good restaurant. I can't recommend it enough.
