Coco Maya is inspired by exploring the history of the Islands and Latin American regions of the Caribbean Ocean.

The dishes are a contemporary link from the past to the present using local produce and Seafood guided by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch. European influence in flavor and cooking techniques are echoed throughout the menu with the core of the kitchen coming from the Coal Fired Josper Oven. Hints of the Ocean, smoke, and char will reverberate through all the dishes.

A daily Brunch Menu is centered around composed Latin American and Caribbean breakfast dishes with rotating pastries and a unique Sandwich called Bokit (a stuffed fry bread from the French Islands of Guadeloupe).

Snacks vary from a simple play on Chex Mix to a fun tableside version of a Raclette queso fundido.

Dinner transitions into a more select atmosphere with the food offering a variety of plant-based small plates and large format proteins cooked over coals

I truly did enjoy the experience but I felt like the food was extremely salty and a bit hard to enjoy. Good drinks though.

Overall the restaurant is very cute and nicely decorated. We decided to come for Mother’s Day. The food was good, but our waitress was just very unpleasant, she seemed as if she did not want to be there and barely checked on us to see if we were okay. I regret not catching her name, but she was just the only one without a simile on her face. It’s a bummer too because it seemed that the rest of the staff was very kind and attentive, guess we didn’t get too lucky.

It was nice. My review would have been better except for the people who sat next to us. They were perverts and disgusting. They were loud and obnoxious and talking about sex and her needing to be with a lot of guys. Anyways that’s not the restaurants fault. The service was really good and accommodating. The food was good but lacked a little seasoning. The restaurant itself was beautiful and the drinks were delicious. We’d be willing to go back again.

One of the most lovely brunch spots in downtown SD. I took my friend out for her birthday and she loved it. The food was delicious, though the salsa verde on the chilaquiles was a bit on the sweet side. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and great service.

Service is lacking here. We ordered several items and she never wrote it down. We were missing some tacos and instead of apologizing she said it was never put on the order, so we are good. Are we? When the bill came out she said she made sure it was not on there so I gave my card. When I looked at it to sign it, the stupid tacos were on there. Ok fine, so when I ask to have it removed, nothing but attitude and waiting another 15 minutes at the door just to get it fixed. Poor service. Food ok, but value for happy hour was decent. Vibe is awesome minus service.

With such good reviews, we expected this to be great. Sadly, we were disappointed. The food, while creative, did not please. The halibut was a bit dry and had no flavor whatsoever. A little seasoning would have gone a long way here. The poke didn’t taste fresh. The pork belly was very dry, which is unusual for that cut, but the flavor of the tacos was ok. The best dish was the plantain “nachos.” It was unique and the plantains were beautifully cooked, but one good dish doesn’t justify the bill for the evening. The service was fantastic, however. She was attentive without being intrusive.

I love the ambiance- young, energetic. Space is open and in the center of happening in Little Italy. Food plating very good- I had chicken tenders and waffle- adequate balance between sweet, salty, and spicy. Mimosas flight- creative choice of fruits juices( prickly pear, watermelon...). Check the sliming mirror in front of restroom :)

Always such a lovely experience here! The staff is incredibly friendly and the ambience is upbeat and lively. Saturday afternoons are always fun at Coco Maya 😌

Probably one of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time. Everything that we ordered was absolutely delicious and it was the perfect night out for me and my girlfriends. We all had a wonderful experience.

Great overall experience. Food and ambience was great. Had short rib and lobster tacos and ceviche which were good and came out pretty quickly. We went at 3p and was not too busy which is what we wanted. Unfortunately on ig happy hour was advertised at 3p and in the restaurant was 4p. There were a few inconsistencies with menus and hh that I felt like could have been better. Would give it another shot in the future.

Was able to get a last minute reservation, my friends and I made a quick stop in SD and got reservations within the same hour for a party of 4. Food was yummy. The Carajillo my friend ordered was DELICIOUS.

The food! The Valentine’s Day menu exceeded my expectations. The ceviche was flavorful and the ingredients tasted fresh. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection. I wish the smoked bourbon carrot purée was a part of the regular menu but I’m glad I got to experience it on Valentine’s Day. I’ll be returning to try out the mimosa flight tree!

We came in on a Monday so I wasn’t too busy, but our server seemed somewhat bothered or just not in the mood. We were celebrating my brothers 21st birthday, and he made it seem like it was nothing to him like he wasn’t trying to give us that And the energy that you know we would want to be there and he never showed up after we got our food if we needed anything else or a drink or something he was very bland and blunt. Not sure if I’d go there again, but the scenery was very nice.

Came here earlier than the expected reservation and was ready to wait. Spoke to the host and she sat us earlier anyway. Food was delicious and service was amazing. Great experience and it was so fun to see they had a DJ. Would go again.

When it came to ordering the dishes we decided on, it then was revealed that they were out of all of them. We were asked what we wanted instead and one of us requested that before we decide we’d like to know if there’s anything else they were out of. Our waitress checked for us and came back and it turned out. There were at least two more items, a total of four or five. The salsa served with the lobster tacos was the highlight, delicious. The plantains were a solid recommendation our waitress made.

Your hostess was wonderful getting the dinner party situated (sorry I didn't get her name). Gabi, our server was super nice and efficient. I also appreciate Lindsay (manager) introducing herself and making recommendations. The food was delicious! Thank you for a great evening for my daughter's 18th birthday.

Incredible food. Good sized portions. Service was okay. They seemed a little understaffed so they were covering a lot of tables. But everyone was very kind and quick to accommodate when they came around. Will come back to try more things on the menus.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Coco Maya, and it was an experience I won't soon forget, thanks mainly to the incredible staff. The female manager with blonde hair was truly outstanding. Her attentiveness and expertise were evident in every interaction. She went above and beyond to ensure our evening was special, offering personalized recommendations that were spot on. Her warmth and professionalism made us feel welcomed and valued. Additionally, the hostess at Coco Maya deserves high praise. She greeted us with a genuine smile and grace, setting the tone for a wonderful evening. Her efficiency and friendly demeanor were refreshing and contributed significantly to the overall positive atmosphere of the restaurant. So in all, the staff at Coco Maya, especially the female manager and the latina waitress , are a testament to excellent customer service. They've set a high bar for hospitality, making Coco Maya a must-visit destination. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a delightful dining experience complemented by top-notch service

I liked this restaurant although the weather was terrible. It started raining, so they moved us inside. I will go back during the summer. All the ladies loved their food.

Had a fantastic experience at Coco Maya on a Wednesday. The staff, especially the waitresses and bartenders, were incredibly kind and saved the day. The food was also delightful. Highly recommend!
