Welcome to Cocina de Barrio, the newest modern-urban Mexican restaurant located in Encinitas, CA! We are proud to feature the culinary richness of Oaxaca as well as other Mexican regions. Stop by and enjoy our bar stocked with plenty of tequila and mezcal selections, beer, and wines sourced from Valle Guadalupe.

Don't forget to join us during our weekend brunch (where we add a Mexican kick) and our happy hour every Monday-Friday from 3-5pm! Stay Chido!

Plenty of vegan options. We ordered guacamole for our table of five; they make the guacamole fresh, tableside, it was delicious. They provided plenty of chips with the guacamole. I ordered vegan coconut Aguachile. The coconut was tender, and it had a tasty green sauce. It was a huge portion; after eating a bit of guacamole and this appetizer, I was too full to eat my entree. I ordered the Flor de Calabaza for my main course. This was a huge portion of rice, a bean and veggie mixture with a yummy tomato-based sauce, and four stuffed zucchini blossoms. All were very good. They were especially good as leftovers the next day. My husband ordered the seabass and raved about how good it was. My daughter ordered the steak and enjoyed it. The steak was huge, she brought half of it home . This was a birthday celebration, but we didn't ask for anything special. We had a nice time, lots of delicious food and great service.

This spot is really excellent: food, service, drinks, menu composition and ambiance. It's the second time we've eaten here in two months which is a rarity for my wife and I. Definitely worth returning too.

Great new Oaxacan Mexican restaurant. If you like Mole, the Short Ribs are to die for. Great cocktails and in the summer on a hot day, enjoy a Margarita with a fruit popsicle! It was a surprise, but I enjoyed dipping my pineapple popsicle in the Margarita and can’t wait to have one on a hot day this summer… yummy! Welcome to Encinitas Covina de Barrio!

Service is excellent . We always order the table side guacamole and it’s seriously the best . One of our go to spots. I’m vegetarian and have yummy entree options for me!

I had my birthday celebration here with my husband and kids and we were all blown away on how delicious the food was. Not just delicious but authentic. The staff was happy and attentive. It felt like we were actually in a fine dining restaurant.The ambience is very family friendly, but you get treated like royalty. I highly recommend this restaurant and we will be back soon

Great food…so different! Guacamole made at table is best I ever had. Had margarita topped by an actual popsicle (pomegranate cherry) which was very heavy on the alcohol. Will be back…brunch sounds amazing!

This was our first time at Covina de Barrio in Encinitas and we enjoyed a first-rate experience. Comfortable seating, excellent service and the food and drinks were wonderful as well as aesthetically presented. We’ll return for sure!

We had dinner at Cocina De Barrio. The ambience is very lively and loud but one would expect that from most restaurants. What was not expected was the cuisine. I use the word cuisine because the food is amazing. The presentation and preparation remind me of some Michelin star restaurants I've been to in San Diego. The staff is very knowledgeable regarding all the menu items and the many bar offerings. The staff was also very attentive without being overbearing. I'm still thinking about the guacamole dip made at our table. I highly recommend eating here. I know we will be back soon.

Finally an authentic Mexican restaurant in North County. I am Mexican and understand and know authentic food versus Americanized food. If you want great tasting, healthy and authentic Mexican cuisine, this is the place to try. I do wish they seasoned their food a bit better. Great choices of appetizers, tacos, entrees and drinks. I will be returning.

It was good. Guac made table side was unnecessary and made it feel more crowded when they had to wheel around the cart. Mole was really good but everything else was average. We’ll go again but not a regular rotation type of place.

Excellent ceviche! Honestly a ome of the best ever. All the food was good and drinks as well. Service was spot on. Can’t think of anything that could have been better. So glad to have this place local to us now.

Our waitress was great, the food and drinks were delicious, and it was really cute inside. The short rib in mole was our favorite! And the bill wasn’t too pricey for a party of three. We will definitely be back.

Food is good, but atmosphere is too loud to enjoy it. Quite a few reviews make the same complaint. Combination of booming music and exuberent customers at the bar and surrounding tables may sound like success to owners, but they should stop and listen to what people are saying.

Excellent food! It was busy so the service was great with food delivery but a wee bit slow getting the check. Staff was great! Very friendly. I’m 100% coming back to try the mole.

I wanted to love this place. The food is pretty good, drinks are delicious, and the service is stellar (everyone is so nice), but the intense smell of their pungent floor cleaner controlled the vibe and left me with a headache. It was so strong we could taste it. I returned an additional time in hopes the first experience was a fluke, but to no avail. Such a bummer. I will not be returning.

The guacamole guy was incredibly friendly and skilled at his craft. The harsh fluorescent-like lighting on the patio was really unpleasant. The outdoor seating wasn’t very ergonomic for the tables they’re paired with. I was leaning over like a shrimp the entire time. The patio’s sunshade was very effective at blocking headlights from people parking with no etiquette, but waist-down you’ll be blasted with enough light to be bothersome. Perhaps a sign asking drivers to turn their lights off once parked could help.
