We tried a few Italian restaurants this week in SD. All good. This was hands down the best. Lots of fun location too. This will be the spot we come back to first. Great staff too.

We came to Ciccia Osteria to celebrate a birthday, and enjoyed the ambience and the energy in the outdoor area. The salad with turmeric Shrimp was awesome, and we loved the gnocchi!

Went on a Monday with a party of 9 to celebrate my mom’s birthday. This is one of her favorites and among the few Italian restaurants she actually likes and will return to ( that’s a lot coming from and old Italian woman!) service was excellent as always - friendly staff with good sense of humor! Also they are Italian and speak Italian which of course pleases my family. Bottoni stuffed with cheese topped with pancetta and cream sauce - nuff said! One of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever had in USA! Other great mentions: lobster ravioli (excellent sauce), tiramisù (light and fluffy, full of coffee and liqueur flavor), and a small but well rounded wine selection (we ordered several bottles for the table, all very good).

Ciccia Osteria was recommended by friends who raved about this restaurant. Had a RSVP for 6:30. Arrived and was promptly seated. The young man who was the host was pleasant. We asked to be seated “inside”. I didn’t realize that inside or outside were no different. We were chilly and dined with our jackets on. The eclectic seating inside was tight. We sat on very uncomfortable chairs. The server greeted us and we asked for more time. He returned within a reasonable amount of time. We ordered the barley salad to start. My guest didn’t care for it. I enjoyed the salad myself. We ordered the lasagna and the conchiglie pasta. Both portions were generous. Very tasty. We decided to order dessert. One chocolate crème brûlée and a slice of chocolate cake. Neither of the desserts were that exciting. I guess I’m old school that when I spend a nice chunk of money on dinner I want to be comfortable. Also made to feel like I’m welcome. The owner stopped by the table a few times. Just to check on us. I would’ve liked the waiter to be a bit more attentive. Other staff filled our glasses, brought out the food, removed the dishes, and took our dessert order. The waiter did bring the check. I don’t think I would dine here again. Nothing against Ciccia Osteria. Just not what I was expecting.

The space is nicely decorated and very cozy. The food was decent. The hand-made pasta was tasty and the grilled romaine salad was flavorful. The However, the service was a little lacking. It seemed there were two waiters tending our table and they didn't communicate to each other. One waiter took our dessert order then the other one came and left us the bill without realizing we were still waiting for our desserts. It was not very busy on the Sunday night so why the mix up?

I am disappointed to write a negative review after this highly anticipated meal. Based on the Michelin Bib Gourmand designation, I expected more from this place. First, the parking is non-existent. No valet and only a few spots in front. The neighborhood is not the best. We were warmly greeted and the staff was friendly. The waiter was also pleasant but so overwhelmed that it took a long time before he came back to take our order. We ordered the lasagna and Sombreri. No modifications, I like to try things exactly as the chef intended. While waiting for our food, a local in dirty clothes walked in trying to sell flowers to every table. No thanks. Staff didn’t say a thing to him as he roamed from table to table, so this must be expected? Babies screaming at one table, a toddler from another table roaming around and unplugging the cafe lights. Neither are the restaurants fault but it continues to dampen the mood for a nice dinner. (This coming from 2 parents who paid a sitter so we could enjoy a quiet dinner out.) When our order arrived, the lasagna looked good, but my pasta dish looked like a plain bowl of buttered noodles with some sausage bits??. This was supposed to be one of their popular dishes. It was incredibly bland. So disappointing. My husband said the lasagna was ok but, again, nothing special. I wanted to love this place! Reading the menu before arriving I couldn’t wait to try it! We were looking forward to this meal all week. Based on the reviews and the number of people there, I’m hoping we just caught them on an off night? If you’re looking for a quiet, romantic, flavorful, Italian dinner out- This is not it. If you’re within walking distance or opt for an Uber, and want a kid-friendly Italian meal, you’ll be happy here.

This restaurant is a true neighborhood gem. We had an awesome experience. The friendly staff was amazing and the authentic food was on that same level. We will be making this a staple for us.

Owner was very gracious and friendly. We had delicious pasta and the gluten free options were wonderful. They even had gf bread and crackers. Prices were very reasonable. Mushroom flan was amazing!

Okay I am so sad to write a negative review after hearing great things about this restaurant. Honestly it did not meet expectations at all. We had reservations at 7:15 and arrived at 7:10. When we got there, there was no host or organization to manage the wait list/reservations. There was a couple who had 7:30 reservations who got sat before us, walk up customers that were sat before us, and it was clear that we did not receive a reserved table. Finally we got sat at 7:40. In the reservation I requested inside seating and we got sat on the patio. After sitting at the table for about 10 minutes a man, who I believe was the manager, ran up to our table in a rushed tone and all he said was "Are you ready to order?" There was literally no service whatsoever, no recommendations, he didn't ask if we had questions, didn't ask for our drink order first, literally no normal steps of service. I've been working in hospitality for 5 years and was blown away at how terrible the service was. Finally the food came and the portions are small, by boyfriend ordered ravioli that came out extremely al dente, not to mention there were maybe 6 in total. I ordered the gnocchi and it was good but honestly not to die for. Never once did we have a server come check on our food, offer another glass of wine, absolutely nothing. I will get them the benefit of the doubt and hope that maybe they were understaffed for the evening but honestly I don't know. I wish they put walk in customers on a true and proper waitlist so they had time to offer good service to every table that sat. I may go back to see if the experience will be better, but not sure if it's worth it.

We’ve dined at Ciccia Osteria a number of times and love coming here. It’s a bustling place with a wonderful Italian ambiance. The food is amazing. On this visit I had the mushroom flan to start and the orzotto with shrimp and lobster for my main course, as did my wife. Just delicious. Our friends made other choices and were equally delighted with the quality of the food, the service and the vibe. Mario, the owner checked in with us to make sure everything was good and Allesandro, our server also made sure that we were taken care of throughout the meal. We will be back!
