It was serendipitous. My friend sent me the Chico Malo link in error but we loved it. The staff politely sat me early for my reservation in a big enough table and bench to accommodate my laptop bag and shopping bags. The design of the different fabric and leather textures for benches, seats, bar swivel seats, and fixtures had a lot of visual interest. (It had to be great to be noticeable, I’m no designer.) We tried the carne asada, mushroom fundido, enchiladas, and the margaritas. The carne was cooked to ordered perfectly and arrived with a glass domed lid to trap the smoke. The flour and corn tortillas were scratch made and delicious. If you haven’t been, you are missing out.

Food and service were fantastic. Lots of things left to try on the menu, so we will be back. But the bathrooms were kind of a mess.

Good food and menu. Service was haphazard at best. Entrees came out before appetizers, drinks took forever. Energetic atmosphere and convenient to the Footprint Center. At their price points the service needs to be improved to justify the value, though could have just been our server. I'd give it a second try when in the area.

Reservations recommended. There was a long line when we arrived. The host greeted us warmly and showed us to our table immediately. Our server was polite. We ordered the three duck empanadas and the three tacos, along with drinks. The wait for both was longer than expected, but the restaurant was very busy. The guava lemonade was filled with ice and the guava syrup was at the very bottom, so it was a pretty presentation but not a well mixed drink, as it was either syrup I was tasting or just the lemonade. The empanadas were tasty and well presented. The tacos were just the meat and the shell with a side of sauce. Disappointing. Restrooms were messy, 2 stalls, 1 ADA. Outside patio, could be dog friendly but I would double check.

Don’t spend your money or time here. This place covets food presentation over quality and customer satisfaction. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I am writing this review as my cold pates hit the table after 45 min of ordering them... First time here and will definitely not be coming back. I literally wanted to walk out without eating. Anyway, hope you enjoy and learn from our mistake. Stay away!!

Such a cute vibe with great food and drinks. Loved the espresso martini and their guac was fabulous! Our server was great as well! We will definitely be back when we’re in the area for an event downtown.

Chico Malo has a potential to become a great experience, but my personal rule when it comes to restaurants or trucks. If the place is not full on a slow day, then it’s not worth the hype. First time visit is always great, but not for a second or for a big event. Food is over smoked, tortillas were hard and dry. These “authentic” values in the flavors didn’t justify the price.

One of our favorite spots to eat pre-concerts at the Arizona Financial Theatre. Service is always great and quick, food choices and quality is excellent.
