Almost all of the dishes arrived cold Both steaks’ preparation temperature were off. Tomato’s in salad were soft. Ambience was pleasant. Overall, quite disappointing

Having eaten at Four Seasons associated restaurants in the past, I was expecting to be blown away. Sadly it was all a flop. The highlight was our pre-dinner drink at the bar. The bar tender was a delight and the drinks were delicious. We ate on the patio. Great views. We were seated by the hostess and sat for 10 minutes before anyone offered water. We got zero explanation of the menu from the waiter. We opted to share 4 appetizers. Only 1 was relatively decent. The gumbo was the worst I’ve ever eaten. Barely warm (maybe that’s because we didn’t get a spoon so I had to finally go to bar and get one myself) and flavor was pretty off base. The crawfish gratin was decent but I wouldn’t go back just for that. We had a late dinner and patio lighting was non-existent. If you are going to serve patrons after dark on a patio, invest in decent lighting. Overall a total disappointment. Many other great restaurants in this city

We booked this table for 8 a month in advance for my husband’s 40th and I confirmed it online the week before. However, when the first members of our party arrived to be seated, they were told that the reservation had been cancelled. The restaurant stated that they had called me (they had not) and spoken to a man (I’m a woman), who told them he was taking shots at his own wedding and wanted to cancel. This story was pretty wild, but instead of realizing that they clearly dialed the wrong number, it took some convincing to get them to believe that I had not in fact cancelled the reservation. This wasn’t a great start to the evening, especially because this episode was followed by some uncertainty about whether they could even still provide us a table (most of our party was on site by this time), or whether they’d just leave us without a reservation to find a table for 8 on a Saturday night for my husband’s bday. This approach was especially confusing as the restaurant was at least half empty and remained so the entire time we were there. Eventually, they told us they would find us a table and we could come back thirty minutes after our reservation was supposed to be. We did this and no one at Chemin seemed too bothered by the anxiety they had caused us and kind of just had a “that was crazy!” approach when we returned. Had I been the maitre D and turned away a table of 8 40 year old locals on a special occasion, due to my own outrageous error, I think I might have sent over an app to smooth things over or something, but clearly no one at Chemin felt the same. The food was good, the service was average (my cocktail took a full 30 minutes to arrive and when I enquired as to if it was still coming, the waitress told me she didn’t know what I was talking about and then remembered, and then it still took 15 minutes after that), and the bill was $400/couple. At that price point and with that experience, I think we’ll be dining elsewhere in the future.

Our waitress, Melanie was by far the best we have had in all of our 50 years of dining. She was personable, knowledgeable, friendly and professional. We ordered our meal by individual courses. We spent over 2 hours enjoying our dinner on the waterfront terrace as we watched the ship traffic on the Mississippi. Our meal began with 6 local, plump salty oysters which were served with two sauces. Our second course was a wedge salad. It was crisp, flavorful and the perfect amount to share. Our main course was the shrimp dish. Our mouths were tantalized by six succulent large shrimp on a bed of risotto and English peas. The appetizer olive bread was warm, light, airy and filled with a burst of flavor. We finished our meal with the chocolate malt bomb as recommended by Mel. It was divine. Our accompanying beverages were the champagne cocktail and the Macallan fig. This was one of the best cocktails we’ve had. We shared each course and left sated and very full.
