Cheapsteaks is a unique restaurant for the Deep Ellum culinary scene. Its simple menu offers two beef options - a house sirloin and a butcher’s tenderloin (hanger steak) - with a side of truffled French fries or my personal favorite, flash fried Brussels sprouts loaded with delicious savory bacon. Staying true to the “keep it simple stupid” theme your choice for the preparation of your steak is “pink” or “no pink.” The outcome is a truly delicious meal at an amazingly “cheap steak” price point. Granted Cheapsteaks isn’t going to compete with Bob’s, Nick and Sam’s, Pappas Bros’ or your standard Ruth’s Chris chain steakhouse for a USDA Prime cut of beef. However, Cheapsteaks does win in one category - A tasty well-prepared perfectly proportioned steak at a price that leaves enough change in your pockets to buy a couple of more rounds of bourbon to accompany the meal for you and your friends. I will say that Cheapsteaks did come up short when it came to the quality of the Manhattan poured for me the night I visited this funky music-steak dive. The bartender was definitely heavy handed with the Angostura bitters and sweet vermouth ratios. So much so that the Cheapsteaks Manhattan qualifies as one of the top five worst Manhattans I’ve attempted to drink in my many years of sipping this classic cocktail.

I probably expected more than I should have for a place called cheapsteaks. The food was good, portions were small. Char-grilled steak was tasty, if overdone. Fries and Brussels sprouts were awesome. The brussel sprout serving was HUGE.

Went on a Saturday with reservations. Nobody but the bartender working with a party bike flooding the bar. Sat for our reservation - no idea why we needed one - they had a sign to seat yourself. Noise was nuts and not a place to really have dinner let alone a steak. Literally no waitstaff at dinner time.

NY Strip was excellent and cooked to right temp. Perfect for NYE pre evening dinner. Truffle Fries were also great. We arrived right at 5 when they opened. The bartender seemed immediately put off as if she didn’t want to be at work. But other than that we had a good experience.

Had a group of 20 and they did a fantastic job- best service I’ve seen in a long time. Food was fantastic. Some friends said their steak was slightly over cooked, but I had the steak sandwich and it was great.

As mentioned in other posts, this isn’t your normal steak restaurant. No cloth napkins or tablecloths, but the steaks are better than some of those restaurants I’ve been to. They even have A1 and Heinz 57 sauces (!!) on the table for those who might prefer that, but I wouldn’t dare mess with the house seasoning that comes as is from the grill!

Amazing food for the buck. Highly recommend. The steaks were cooked perfectly and their salads are mixed well with their dressing. Server was so friendly and kind. Will attend this place again if ever in the area.

Music was nice. Need more selections of food and drinks. Overall it was okay. Nothing too much to brag about. The tables had holes which caused my drink to concentrate and leak water on my legs.

This hole on the wall bar definitely caught me by surprise even though the steaks were cheap . They were amazing ! The truffle fries are to die for !!! I had the house sirloin cut with truffle fries . Highly recommend

The food was in fact cheap but it was not overwhelming with flavor. I wouldn’t visit again unless there was a band playing. Go for the experience not the food. Steak was not the best

I absolutely enjoyed the atmosphere!!! There was two live bands ( one inside one outside) and the steak, salmon, truffle fries & salad were amazing. I didn't care for the cheesecake. Service was awesome!! 10/10 all day

This is a Bar. Now that being said, being I've never been here I wasn't aware of procedures and the person at the door checking id was kinda rude and got there just to be told that the kitchen staff had already left. I called ahead an hour to make sure everything was good so this was kinda disappointed and I left. Hopefully I'll maybe get to try this place but it ruined a quite of my valentines day

First time here, service was very slow. Appetizers came after dinner so late that our second round of drinks were on the house that was about it.

If you are looking for a no frills steak place- this is it. Food is ok, not great but ok. They could invest in better silverware. The ambiance is loud and cold and overall looks dirty. It’s a one and done for me.

Well attended service. Very kind and cheerful but that's about the only great thing. Wine is mediocre, I ordered a filet which was dry so they charged me $4.00 for a piece of garlic butter to top off the dry piece of meat. It's really not a good place for dining or drinking. It maybe a good place for loud music especially on a Friday night.

I have eaten here a couple of times, now. The steaks are great!! Always flavorful and cooked the way I like them. The Brussels sprouts side dish is phenomenal, as well!! Highly recommended! Cocktails are always tasty & the live music was AWESOME! Love Miss Jay & the Crew!!

We went to CheapSteaks for the first time last night. What fun! Our server was Ashley and she was great. Courteous, professional and fun. Our steaks were delicious and cooked perfectly. Sides were yummy. Prices were reasonable. Funky fun atmosphere. Only pain was parking but that is everywhere in Deep Ellum. We will be back for sure

It was cold because the temp had dropped and they kept the window open. My friends really couldn't enjoy the meal because of that. However they did try to turn up the heat when we asked. I was visiting from out of town and I love a live band/open mic type of setting so that was great.

Talk about a different experience on a steakhouse. This place is definitely punk rock in the best way possible. The food was amazing and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. This is on my list of must visit places in Dallas. There's also two areas for live music!

I was a little concerned about the quality of food at a place that calls themselves cheap, but I decided to try it out and was not disappointed. I got a hanging tenderloin that was perfectly seasoned and cooked precisely to the medium rare temperature I requested. The Parmesan truffle fries that came as a side were good too - not too salty as is often the case with seasoned fries, and they were as crispy as you’d expect for shoestring fries. The only things that caught me off guard were how small the place was, and there were people performing on a stage set up in a corner by the door - I had not realized before going that it would have live music. The noise level for the size of the venue was borderline irresponsible, but noise doesn’t bother me, in general. The performances were good at least, but it was so loud that my server and I had to shout at each other repeatedly to get the details of my order down correctly. To his credit, he got it all right (somehow) and I had a great overall experience. This place is more of a dive bar than a dining destination, but for a late night hungry traveler, it met all my needs and I was glad that I tried it.

I took my daughters here for a daddy/daughter date and to experience Deep Ellum. Food and service was fantastic. Chef/Owner came out and visited with us for about 10min as well which was great. We'll definitely be back.
