    The Chart House in Dana Point is an icon. The view is fantastic, and the food was excellent as well. It's been decades since I've had prime rib this good. And my co-diner had the halibut and it was excellent as well. We were both very pleased with our meals. The service was impeccable. The restaurant itself is elegant and nicely laid out. It's a large restaurant, but you wouldn't know it because it's partitioned into smaller areas. My only complaint is that the booths with the view are enclosed by bare concrete walls on two sides and the glass on the third, so conversation echoes badly. A little sound-deadening material on the concrete would improve the ambiance. A personal nit to pick: I deplore the fact that people no longer dress respectfully when going to a nice, upscale restaurant. Blue jeans, T-shirts, and sweatshirts are just low-class in such a place. People have no concept of elegance anymore. Yes, I know: First-world problems; my problem, not theirs. I guess the restaurant doesn't wish to risk losing customers by imposing or even suggesting a dress code. Lastly, I was a little offended that valet parking is mandatory, even though there is a generous parking lot.

    Honestly it was one of our best experiences ever! It was a special occasion and the restaurant and waiter Stephan went out of there way to make it special. Food was perfect and service was impeccable!

    Great calamari and apps. Service was excellent. Fish is always solid. Dont recommend the steaks

    Unfortunately, the Chart house continues to to over book. The last two times I had to wait 20 minutes and then 30 meeting for my reservation. It reminds me of a Seinfeld episode. Mother’s Day was no different. 7:30 reservation. Seated at 8:00. Ordered food at 8:30. Served at 9:15 out the door at 10:00. Our poor server did the best she could. Maybe the kitchen was under staffed? Could be a great OC gem but unfortunately management continues to see how many people they can cram in the place.

    Terrible service for Mother’s Day. Slow, disorganized. Food was very good but very delayed. Wouldn’t go again for a holiday. Probably great on normal days.

    Excellent seafood with a stunning view. When we were there for Mother's Day, the restaurant was badly past their capacity, which harmed the experience.

    Service was beyond awful, we had a reservation and had to wait 50 extra minutes for our table. They told us it would be an extra 20 minutes and when we talked to them at the 50 minute mark they said “this is why we don’t like to quote wait times”. Isn’t that your job? And that shouldn’t even be happening with a reservation. We then got sat outside which we didn’t ask for and the waiter was very slow and we had to ask for stuff multiple times for them to happen. She would just say sorry, she forgot. Drinks took forever to come up and 2 simple appetizers took 20 minutes. We ended up not even ordering entrees because it was so bad. Overall such a terrible dining experience.

    We have dined at the Chart House many times and it has been excellent. However, yesterday (Mother’s Day) was so disappointing. They were overbooked and understaffed. It took 30 minutes to get seated (we had a 6:15 reservation) and another 30 minutes to get our drinks. They were out of bread. It was a price fixe menu and 6 of the 8 had to leave before the dessert came (which was 9 pm). I would never go there on a holiday ever again.

    We have been going to The Chart House at Dana Point since the 1970s and have always had a great experience with the food and service. Unfortunately, yesterday for Mother's Day, it was horrible. We arrived 30 minutes early, had a cocktail at the bar and was seated right at the time of our reservation. That was great...then everything went wrong, and chaos ensued. It is obvious that management did not plan well for the onslaught of patrons to celebrate the day. We had to ask for our shrimp appetizer which we had already ordered and paid for at the bar, in addition to requesting the breadbasket usually provided. When it came, we were told the two pieces of bread were the last they had. Our waitress, however, was GREAT; she took our order and kept us updated as best she could on the timing of when we the kitchen would have our food ready. After waiting literally for 1 hour and 30 minutes for our food, we still were not served. We gave up, cancelled the order and left. We likely will not be returning to The Chart House anytime soon.

    Was given a 5:30 reservation, was not seated till 6:45, was seated at outside, uneven grassy area, they ran out of bread had to wait 40 minutes to get bread, it was my birthday and Mother’s Day. Food portions were small, food was not good, or well prepared, limited menu! This was a horrible experience for my birthday, we usually go to the Redondo beach restaurant, never had a complaint! Totally disappointed, for 72.00 what we ate, jack in the box would have been better and cheaper, can’t believe this 5 star restaurant, it is definitely over ratted! Total thumbs down!!!!!!!!
