Another wonderful experience at Chanterelle! Thoroughly enjoyed several new menu items, most notably the octopus aperitif and the lobster and halibut entrees. The perfectly cooked octopus accompanied by serrano ham and chilled, marinated tomatoes created an amazing combination of flavors in every bite! The poached halibut was everything one would want - delicate, moist and sweet - and paired with a fresh and bright combination of ramp, snap peas, and snow peas - another terrific combination of flavors and textures. The lobster - whole served out of the shell - was sauteed and with a sauce that had wonderfully subtle Asian notes that appeared as one savored each bite. Each dish is a truly outstanding addition to the menu. Of course a highlight of any visit to Chanterelle is the truly warm hospitality and amazing service of Carmen (GM & Host), Dan (Captain) and Ben (Server). It would not be uncommon for an establishment at Chanterelle's level to feel a bit stuffy, but that's never the case for this team. They always make everyone feel relaxed and welcome with just the right level of personal engagement and attention - a "secret sauce" so to speak.

We are so fortunate to have Chanterelle in Newport. The new preparations for the Halibut and Dover sole were excellent! The quality of the food and service are consistently outstanding . Chanterelle is one of our favorite go to restaurants.

The menu is limited, but has beef, fish, chicken, pork dishes. It was pleasant but the food was nothing to rave about as in the past (Le Bouchard). The new decor is wonderful, but the homey feeling of an inn has been taken over by the modern decor. It felt sterile.

The hostess was warm and friendly, and the waitstaff superb. Max was our main server, and he and others running the dining room ensured our glasses were filled and the pacing of the courses was smooth. The food was incredible, but the best part was enjoying a fine dining experience. Our dishes were served at the right temperature, our plates cleared and utensils reset, and the level of contact was perfect. I appreciated Max’s wine recommendation for my entree and knowledge of the menu or willingness to ask the chef. I hope to return to Chanterelle again with my daughter! Thanks for an unforgettable evening.

We were warmly greeted, introduced to our server and attentively taken care of. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. We will definitely return when we next visit Newport. Be sure to order the dessert soufflé.

Fabulous anniversary dinner with my wife. The dinner was off the charts wonderful. Started with escargot appetizer. Main course was seafood for both of us. One dinner of fluke, and the other was lobster. Fabulous sauces for both. We finished with Grand Marnier Souffles. Fabulous evening. Perfect service. Just one of the all time best French restaurants in New England !

My husband and I had a delightful time and a delicious dinner. We both have issues on what we can eat and drink and our server was patient and accommodating. The spring menu had just gone into effect and it was hard to make a decision but I was more than happy with my choices. The salad with shaved beet, pear goat cheese was light and delicious the beef tenderloin perfectly cooked and oh so tender. For dessert,the semi freddo, one of the best desserts I’ve ever had.

Ambience was exactly what we wanted; quiet and comfortable, as if we were dining in our home. Max, our server, was superb - a real gentleman. He made us feel as if he were our own personal butler. We ordered the Halibut and the Tuna Dijonaisse - both were wonderful and the pureed vegetables and decorative plate presentation were creative and eye-pleasing; we didn't want to disturb it to eat. Service was just enough for our needs but not intrusive. Even though we were seated near the server's station, we never felt bothered by their activities. Wonderful restaurant for special occasions (birthdays, anniversaries). My only critique would be the portions - pretty conservative amount. If you're hungry, you might be left wanting by the end of dinner.

The chanterelle was taken over from the previous owner. We have eaten hear many times in the past. I took my wife for her birthday. Our apps were good. For me the lobster ravioli fell a bit short. My wife’s asparagus dish was excellent. She had the beef tenderloin for dinner. It was perfectly cooked. I had the dover sole. For me it fell short. A bit dry and too many almonds. I enjoyed the grand marnier soufle. For me the highlight of the night. My wife had the chocolate cake. She said it was a bit dry. The service is top notch and the server has been their for around twenty years. The ambiance is exceptional.

What an exquisite dining experience! The experience was hands down one of the best we’ve had from our fabulous waiter/bartender Dan, to the delicious unique food choices. We loved every minute of our evening out at Chanterelle and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high end experience for a special occasion or fancy date night. You won’t disappointed until you have to leave!

The service is excellent. The food was ….good but not fabulous and certainly not French. Friends raved about the soufflé. It was worth it. Entrees and apps were otherwise standard for this caliber of dining. It appears the owner/manager was onsite and indifferent to our patronage. A simple “good evening” on entrance or “thank you, come again” upon exit goes much further than judging glares.

We had a wonderful 40th anniversary dinner with delicious food and wine. The service was welcoming and we ended the meal with complementary champagne. A special night!

Coming to Bouchards has become a birthday tradition and one that typically highlights our stay in Newport. However, our latest experience 4/14/24 was not what we've come to expect from this restaurant. We've chosen Bouchards through the years over many of the local restaurants because both the food and service were outstanding. The food this time was very average not what we're used to. Even my meal which I ordered medium rare came out rare. They did correct this bit surprisingly our waiter never checked back to ensure everything was OK after the correction. The entire meal was rushed giving us the sense that they needed our table more than they cared about our dining experience, which by the way we traveled 2 hours to get to the restaurant. All in all very mediocre and very sub par in comparison to what we are used to at this restaurant. Sadly a destination we always looked forward to us one we will now have to think about before returning.

The hostess was not pleasant. The waiter was not attentive. We go so often that we have had everything. They need to change /add some new things. There are no specials , which makes it limited

Chanterelle was incredible. The food was delicious but the service made our experience one that we will never forget. The server, Dan, was extremely personable and professional. He even brought a few tastings of wines that he thought would either pair nicely with our meals or thought we may like based on what we had already ordered. It was my parents’ 70th birthday celebration and they even brought complimentary champagne at the end of our meal. If you’re in Newport and looking for a special experience, go here! You will not be disappointed.

The service and food were absolutely excellent! The maitre d’ was superb with wonderful recommendations and helping with food allergies. There is plenty on the menu if you need to be vegan, vegetarian, dairy or gluten free. This was our first dining experience there based on a recommendation by a friend and we will definitely be returning.

Everything was excellent, from the hostess greeting us very warmly, to our waiter who was very pleasant and professional and knowledgeable, and the food and, the ambience, and the drinks were all great. Will definitely have to go back and try some of the other items on the menu.

Chanterelle decor was contemporary. It was perfect for a romantic dinner as it was not too crowded and the lighting was good. The food was delicious. It lived up to its reputation.

We come to Newport every year and make sure to go to Chanterelle (formerly Bouchard). The atmosphere is quiet and intimate, the staff are warm and kind, and the food is incredible. Portions are smaller to account for how incredibly rich the food is. Can’t miss the grand marnier soufflé as well.

High quality, elegant, artistic dishes from starters thru dessert. Smaller portions but even considering that the prices are very fair, which was nice for a change. Really nice ambiance, great for a fancy date night / occasion.

We went there for my birthday. It was very nice but the menu has been slimmed down so there are fewer choices. My wife was disappointed that they no longer had the lobster dish that she really liked.
