Join us for afternoon tea at the Japanese American National Museum. Sharing a beautiful outdoor space with the museum, our tea room can accommodate parties of up to 20 people.

We are a Los Angeles-based tea room and online tea retailer. We've been here for 30 years, helping the people of Los Angeles discover tea. Chado Tea Room has served the Los Angeles area for over 25 years. With 4 locations, they have revolutionized the Angelino tea lover's experience. For 4 unremarkable mini sandwiches, one scone, two cookies, and an unpalatable pot of tea, it was my not worth it. The waitress tried her best, but she could not over come the mediocre food and tea.

The food and tea here is honestly just ok and the price isn't bad at all for a tea room, but it's not great for the quality. I would come here again for a really cheap tea room vibe and experience, but it's definitely nothing extraordinary.

Hadn't seen a friend for years and this was such a great location to just sit and chat. We were so grateful that we were allowed to keep ordering without feeling pressured to move on. Food and tea were good but the shop is showing its age. Still a charming and nice place to meet for a cup of tea or two.

Horrible. Place was filthy when we arrived. They didn’t clean from the night before so there were dirty dishes on every table. Food was blah, service was slow. Staff is lazy & incompetent. So disappointing, will never go back.

It’s a nice place for tea but service was extremely slow. It felt like ages waiting for our food, check, etc. Maybe they were short staffed as we came on a weekday.

I would not recommend. Service was extremely slow even though we were one of two tables in restaurant. Took 20 minutes for waitress to come to our table. Tea was lukewarm. Restaurant has an unpleasant odor. Deserts on 3-tier platter were bought from grocery store and were dry. Scones were warm but dry and crumbly.

We had a lovely holiday staff tea- no one shooed us out- we were there over 2 hours exchanging gifts and dining- sadly the water feature and the gardens at the JPNN did not seem to be maintained and it was not as pretty as the last time I was there.

Unfortunately from my first visit to now this place has really gone down in value and product. Oily thin soup that taste like store bought tomato sauce. The summer salad with walnuts and apples was a poor choice with no chicken or dressing. It was prepared in a way that if you got a bite it was all lettuce. The salmon toast was just that salmon on toast. And the golden monkey tea was probably the only thing item I could enjoy if you can even call it that. And while afternoon tea is about taking your time, enjoying the after meaning a wait is expected, for what my and my husband received was an insult. Overall it was a sad experience since I really used to love this place. I don’t know if I’ll bother to come back at all.

We loved our experience at the tea room. The whole experience was great and the tea selection was amazing. We would definitely recommend it if you are looking for that kind of experience.

My partner and I came to celebrate my birthday and it was such an amazing experience. The service, food, and overall ambiance was perfect. I cannot recommend enough but definitely make a reservation on the weekends.

The service is great and the atmosphere is also very soothing and comfortable. I was there many years ago, and I felt that the quality of food has gone down a bit. Otherwise, it is still a nice place for an afternoon tea event!

The sandwiches could've have been stuffed alittle more. But overall they were tasty. The tea, salad and soup was filling too. All was good especially the sweets. The table we sat at was wobbly and one of us had to put pressure down on base while eating. Still we managed to have a good meal Overall my husband and I had an enjoyable tea time after a wonderful Dodger Discussion event at JANM. I will return to eat at Chado Tea House again.

The restaurant is serene and quaint. All of the tea cup decor makes you feel at home, it’s warm and inviting. The food leaves a little to be desired. The tea is good but I was disappointed that they didn’t have sugar cubes or that milk wasn’t automatically offered. I prefer the Pasadena location

Beautiful atmosphere. Professional and courteous service. Parking in that area is not close to the tea room. Good luck finding street parking and the Parking Lots are usually full and the cost is expensive. I will probably take the train if I go again. The tea is delicious.

I have been to Chado on a number of occasions and it is usually ok. For Mother’s Day they raised the price from $35 to $65 per person. The tea was lukewarm, sandwiches were mainly bread and stale and the sweets were, I hate to say, supermarket quality. The service was ok but the quality did not match the cost. I would’ve expected better quality or a special menu for the upcharge of mother’s day. We had gone last year and it was $35 pp with a fixed menu for Mother’s day. I wrote an email to the manager and got no response which is why I’m writing this review.

This Tea Room has got to be the greatest. The teas were superbly, brewed with a beautiful ambience. The scones were to die for. A great place for an outside visit.

I wouldn’t suggest going to this location. Solely because I’ve gone a couple times and they never have specific items. Even if it’s early in the morning they don’t have certain things. And I do not think it’s worth it going. It’s also pricey for what they give you.

Blanca was wonderful- warm & friendly. We had a great afternoon tea experience. The lemon chiffon herbal tea is delicious. Scones were tasty but very dry, sandwiches were also tasty. Sweet space connected to the Japanese American Museum.

My daughter and I always love afternoon tea at the Chado Tea Room by the Japanese American National Museum. It's a very pretty and peaceful setting and overall, the tea and food is very good. I was a bit disappointed this time around because while the rest of the food was good, the scones (which are a crucial part of afternoon tea) were not. Usually they are light, moist and crumbly but this time they were dense, hard and dry. I think maybe the baker kneaded the dough too much or something. Otherwise we enjoyed ourselves and the service was attentive.

I loved the ambience, the sweet and attentive waitress, the attractive and whimsical display of unique teapots, and most of all the huge wall of every kind of tea imaginable! I did feel the price of the food was a bit high, but where isn't it these days?

Cute is maybe the best word if you like Porcelain doll decor. On the one hand it feels authentic like a Japanese tea room on the other hand it feels made up just to make money. 3 tier sandwich presentation was nice and the sandwiches themselves were kind of ok. Not quite filling either we went to get some lunch afterwards.

The server was friendly, the food/tea was good. Really liked the scones. The teapot my tea came in was chipped at two places, thought it was a bit tacky.

Food was good but the service was poor. Only two ppl working and when it started to rain I asked to sit inside and they told me no, but then accommodated three other tables who asked to move inside. When I conforted her about it she rolled her eyes and said "I'm sorry!!" Not sorry enough!
