Carne Mare is an Italian chophouse by Chef Andrew Carmellini offering prime cuts of steaks, fine seafood, and Italian specialties. The menu by Chef Carmellini and Chef della Cucina Levi Raines begins with fine seafood, cocktails, oysters, traditional antipasti, salads and carpaccio. Entrées include housemade pastas, seafood and, of course, the main attraction: prime-aged beef, wagyu and prime rib, served with a selection of steakhouse contorni.

This was a miss all around. Service was so slow and food was not good. The only good thing we ate was the free bread

On arrival, the four of us were seated in the bar area in a high booth. (I had asked for a quiet table and was told this location was quieter than the main dining area.) Our very friendly and knowledgeable waiter, Bradley, greeted us and provided water, took drink orders and answered questions. It was our first visit to the restaurant. Cocktails were nicely prepared and a delicious sort of popover bread arrived. Delicious. Bradley asked the sommelier, John, to help us with our wine selection. We were looking for a dry, fruit forward full-bodied red from Italy. John’s recommendation proved to be perfect. Appetizer was a selection of small, very tasty meatballs. Interestingly, we all ordered ribeye steaks, medium rare. Those arrived and were very good. Sides were asparagus and crispy potatoes. While the main course was slow arriving, it was worth the wait. For dessert, we shared one piece of 17-layer cake. Excellent and not overpoweringly sweet. The meal was expensive but worth it. Service was great, too, and parking was easy to find near the restaurant.

First and foremost the Service was excellent! Dining area is extremely loud… Food was less than expected…Filet was unevenly cooked with 1/2 of it rare and the other 1/2 medium…short rib ravioli was cool and lacked flavor…potatoes however were very good. As we spent our dining time in conversation, I didn’t realize we both were underwhelmed with the food aspect of our experience until the drive home…

4th time in. Great execution top to bottom. Food, service, management, sommelier...all great. We prefer the bar area for dinner for smaller groups, but the dining room is nice for business dinners and larger groups.

We’ve live in Nashville for almost 3 years now and most recently lived in downtown Chicago. We are constantly homesick for the food and service of Chicago restaurants. Carne Mare was hands down our best experience in Nashville so far. The service was excellent and the food was even better. We enjoyed the filet, 2 specials (scallops and spicy spaghetti with lots and lots of lobster in it) and the pappardelle. For apps we had the mozz with caviar and the crab lettuce wraps.

Probably one of my favorite restaurants in Nashville. I’ve been here for about 3 or 4 times and it never disappoints. The food, cocktails, service and waiters are top tier.
