** Please note all bookings are for our restaurant, we offer first come first served for drinks in our bar area.

*** Please note due to licencing restrictions under 18's are not permitted in the main bar, we can seat under 18's and over 5's in the restaurant for dining. We cannot allow under 18's in the restaurant after 10pm.

**** As we are a listed building we do not have Accessible toilets on the ground floor.

We enjoyed our meal in a very elegant setting. My favorite Cullen Skink and a bucket full of mussels were also very delicious. If I could have one wish granted, I would like Tennent’s draft beer on the menu.

Nice upscale pub! Excellent food and very attentive service. Energetic environment, but really great evening. Very busy. Be sure to pay attention to the allotted table time. We were rather slow eating and had to switch tables for dessert, since they needed our table. They were very accommodating.

Been here a few times for lunch. Booked a table for family catch-up and as a Saturday knew it would be busy. This is first time in restaurant will definitely be our place in future. Friendly welcome from staff, shown our table and offered water and drinks order taken. Husband recommends for beer drinkers 80 shilling. Our wines were pleasant. Food good my husband always enjoys the fish and chips, my sister and I enjoyed haggis, needs and tattles. Decided on puddings both sister and husband chose Cranachan unfortunately only 1, then no crème brulee. I was surprised at this given it was 1.30 on a busy Saturday. They compromised whilst I enjoyed the G&T cheesecake. Definitely recommend booking a table as its very pleasant to sit in the restaurant, we will be doing this in future.

The atmosphere and service are both outstanding. The food was okay. I had the turbot and husband ordered risotto. My food was fine, not great. Husband’s risotto was heavily flavored. But honestly, if you love ambience and friendly waitstaff, this place is your go-to. The stained glass is worth the price of admission. It definitely has the “giving extra” pub vibe down to a science. Go historical cosplay with zero regrets.

Very much a tourist venue from menu to prices. We found it a little packed and noisy yet claustrophobic and with 5 dishes unavailable, we were slightly disappointed on arrival. We did not order oysters/lobster style dishes which seemed to have a bit of "theatre" to their presentation, but ours were quite plain in both presentation and taste. Staff were pleasant and working hard, but as a local, I felt the food was just in the OK category, and I would not rush to return.

A wonderful meal in a pleasant atmosphere. Made reservations with recommendation from a friend living in the Montrose. Tried haggis for the first time (from U.S.) and really liked it. Great food and a really helpful waiter.
