Cafe El Tapatio is a great neighborhood restaurant. Cocktails and Margaritas were made to perfection our favorite was the Mezcal drink that was served like a smokey old fashion. Al Pastor Tacos and Chicken Fajitas were both quite tasty. Staff got us seated quickly and was very attentive.

Very disappointed. We’ve been coming to El Tapatio for years but the service has gone dramatically downhill recently. It took 15min to get met by our server and order drinks. Our meal came out before our appetizer and without our child’s dish. We saw our server twice in an hour and didn’t have an opportunity to order a second round of drinks. The food is great and the owner is always a nice, personable guy but they’re either severely understaffed or stopped putting an emphasis on the quality of service.

The overall experience was great! Our waitress was very attentive and made sure we were good throughout the meal. She gave us various recommendations on food & drink options. The place itself was very clean, the food was yummy the vibe was great. Would definitely recommend!

We had a reservation and the hostess told us we would not be able to be seated for another 30-40 minutes, despite being there at our reserved time. What’s the point of having a reservation? If it’s first come first serve, just don’t accept the reservation.

We had come to Cafe Tapitio for Mother’s Day a couple of years ago & had a fantastic brunch. This time we were told they weren’t doing the Brunch menu due to it being so busy. So we ordered off the regular menu (it was still delicious!) but suddenly we’re noticing all the tables by us had the Brunch menus! Everybody was ordering brunch! It really irked me and we felt slighted.

Great mix of authentic Mexican dishes and the the classics too. The staff is attentive and the owner is incredibly friendly. The churros are a must!!

Best Mexican restaurant in all of Chicago!! 59 years in business! Cannot wait to return to my new favorite neighborhood spot. Great patio when the weather is nice!

Service outstanding. Margarita was terrific. Queso was delicious. Guacamole lacked flavor - needed more salt and lime juice. Had combo plate - carne asado was delicious, chile relleno was average and flauta was dry. Sat outdoor patio - too noisy with train passing overhead every 10 mins. Chairs very uncomfortable and angled away from table - not conducive to dining. Wanted to love it but disappointed. $50pp + gratuity (2 apps, 2 entrees and 1 margarita) was overpriced.
