Beneath the pulsing city lies a hidden dining destination. USDA Prime steaks from the finest Black Angus cattle. Bespoke cocktails. A restored Bank Vault from the 1930s. This is Butcher & Banker, a new "steakeasy" at the crossroads of Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, Javits Center and Hudson Yards.

Butcher & Banker is no ordinary steakhouse. A dozen different steaks are on offer, but non-steak eaters will dine exceedingly well here.

Butcher & Banker pays homage to the New Yorker Hotel’s storied history. The New Yorker opened in 1930 at the height of the Great Depression as the then largest hotel in the city. It has attracted a who’s who of entertainers and dignitaries from around the world, including Muhammad Ali, JFK, Joan Crawford and Nikola Tesla.

Beneath the hotel, a bank vault and offices were occupied by the Manufacturers Trust Company until 1980. With the opening of Butcher & Banker, the public can see the vault for the first time in 37 years.

Great food and impeccable service, we had a fabulous family meal. A little pricey but the food was definately worth it. I had the large seafood ravioli which was really tasty with plenty of fish. Would recommend

Very fun and cool place-perfect for a more upscale dinner prior to an event at Madison Square Garden. We were seated in the vault and that was really cool. Because we were there early, it was quiet but as the restaurant started to fill it became lively, but not "noisy". The food was really good and the service and staff super attentive. Our waiter was an older gentleman who had a great sense of humor and the manager checked in on us twice to make sure everyone was having a good time and was happy. Really enjoyed this place and would absolutely eat here again.

We are usually happy with our experience at Butcher and Banker. However, on this visit the steak was over cooked and they didn't pack up all of our sides to go, despite our request.

I've never eaten dinner in a bank vault before, but I've now done it once, and it's clear to me that I will do so again. The food here was quite good (I had the rib-eye and my colleague had the pork), the service was attentive without being overbearing, and the ambient sound level was comfortable. I will be back.

The restaurant came highly recommended by a very nice representative at our AC Hotel. We enjoyed the food and ambiance of the restaurant, but our server Ceja left a whole lot to be desired as far as his attentiveness and friendliness for our table in particular. He seemed like he was having a bad day but then I noticed he could show friendliness and attentiveness to the patrons of his racial persuasion 😳. He not once inquired how our meal was or if we needed anything else once our food was served to our table. I expected that given the prices we paid for our meal, we could’ve been treated much better. I will not be referring others to B&B as a result of this service experience although the food was absolutely delicious! Service and the meal is everything to me when I patronize a fine dining establishment. While the chef did his part excellently, Ceja missed the mark in his service and treatment of my sisters and I. He blemished the ending of our sisters trip and birthday celebrations.
