BOUCHERIE is a traditional French brasserie and steakhouse, celebrating Joie de Vivre in the heart of West Village. The restaurant prepares a menu of French classics and timeless bistro favorites, in addition to the dry-aged steaks. An absinthe-inspired bar offers classic drinks, signature cocktails and craft beers. Located in the building that used to house the prominent Circle Repertory Theater, the 320-seat restaurant provides a diverse array of dining options from the spacious dining room, a seat at the butcher counter, the intimate second-floor gallery with private dining and outdoor cafe. Boucherie has adapted to the current environment to make the dining experience safe for guests and staff.

The food and the ambiance is decent but the service is not good. We went there for a graduation dinner, there were 5 of us. I ordered a bottle of champagne to start with, then a bottle of white and red. I wanted a bottle of Sancerre, but the waiter told me they were out, so he then recommended another bottle of Sancerre for twice the amount, which I thought was way too excessive. So I decided to order a bottle of Pouilly Fuisse which I’ve had in France that is supposed to be dry. The bottle was not cheap. The waiter made us try it to see if we liked it. It wasn’t to our liking so I asked the waiter if we could change. He said he needed to ask the manager. He came back saying there would be a $25 charge for switching. The waiter should have told me the wine had a sweeter taste and I wouldn’t have ordered it. I did order another bottle but I find it unbelievable that there would charge me for to switch especially since I had ordered so many bottles, and the waiter didn’t know his wines. They don’t have a sommelier in that restaurant. We fought to get it off the bill at the end, but honestly I find it not good customer service at all. I will not be coming back. There are plenty of better French brasseries in NY!

Overall, my experience at Boucherie was quite delightful. The ambiance was charming, perfect for a romantic evening. However, there was a slight hiccup when we reserved the High-top seating for my special surprise, only to discover it was outdoor seating, which wasn't specified beforehand and not quite suitable for a restaurant of that caliber. Thankfully, the lady at the entrance was understanding and graciously accommodated us indoors at the bar by the grill. While not ideal, it was certainly better than braving the cold outdoor weather, especially on that chilly evening. Despite this minor issue, I must say, Boucherie is still a great choice for a date night, with its cozy atmosphere and delectable menu offerings.

Boucherie was a revelation to my taste buds. The food danced on my palette and my mind brought me on a dock overlooking the French Riviera on a gorgeous summer evening.

The meal was more than 100/pp. And while the food was great, if you expect the cost would also guarantee comparable service - do not be so sure at Boucherie. Dec. 2022 I would have told you yes, we had fabulous food and a fabulous server. This is why we chose to return on a recent visit. But last week (April 2024) the answer would have been a clear no. We were there to celebrate a 16th birthday - no one made even the most basic hospitality about it, not even saying "happy birthday" when the dessert was delivered. We had to search for our waiter multiple times and ask others to get us drinks that then arrived after the food. There was no thought to coursing out the meal, which was being shared amongst 5, and so when 80% of the plates came at once there was an absurd amount of food on the table. When restaurants are charging as though they are the cream of the crop, they need to meet the standard in all regards. Boucherie is not reliable in anything but cost, so beware if it will bother you to spend a sum of money and not feel you got your worth.

Reserved on open table for a high top, was not listed that the high top was in fact outside, so I was cold for most of the meal. Service was slow, didn’t get our starter bread for about 20-25 minutes of us sitting there. Ordered the steak frites for $52. My partner and I both asked for medium rare and got served a fatty mess of a steak that was most certainly well done. Needless to say we will not be returning. Go to Buvette a couple blocks over for a fantastic experience instead of this place.

Awful experience. It was a freezing cold night in NYC and they refused to close their doors to the restaurant. When we asked to be seated upstairs they said they already had the tables set up for the next day’s lunch time so they couldn’t sit us there. Then, the service was completely awful. We ordered Wagyu burger and got served a steak frites instead. Then they changed it for the burger, but when the check came we were charged the steak frites. They also didn’t even offer us a drink menu, or a dessert menu either. It felt like they were rushing us out the door from the minute we got there. Horrible place. And extremely expensive. Halibut was mediocre. The burger was simply BAD. None of the flavors described on the menu were on the burger. I couldn’t taste the truffle or the caramelized onion. A shake shack burger has more flavor than this.

The service was very slow The food took a very long time to come to our table The food arrived cold to warm and was very unpleasant The food was not very tasty at all Items were missed that were ordered The service was very slow and seemed very overwhelmed I’ve been here before many times. It is one of my families favorite restaurants and their other locations. We were left very shocked by how this restaurant was that night. Boucherie has been a restaurant that my family and friends have enjoyed throughout the years and this left a rather sour taste for us. I don’t think the staff or management were very warm and welcoming very nonverbal. I’m not sure maybe it was an off night.

Appetizers were great but the steaks were very fatty and cooked medium when we ordered medium rare. I expect fat on certain cuts of meat but this is was absurd

Loved the look, vibe, service and most of all food here. Mentioned in my notes that it was my birthday and without reminding my bday cake and candle arrived. It’s little things like that that really make a difference!

Brunch was very good but I have had better Benedicts. Croissant baskets were excellent but $26 seems a bit much when half the basket was just bread. Service was less attentive than it should have been considering we were early before the crowd. Would go again but not top of list

I took myself here on a Friday and I have to say it was amazing! The food was great and my server even helped me pick out a nice red wine. The staff was very attentive and friendly, the atmosphere was very nice as well. Would definitely recommend!

The food was very good, however, the service was very slow. Our waiter must have gotten the orders mixed up in the kitchen, as people who sat down next to us at the same time, received their food rather quickly. We did not order anything difficult - Wagu burgers and avocado toast, but it took nearly 50 minutes to get our food. He gave the tables next to us dessert and/or free drinks, but did not offer that to us. Quite disappointed with the quality of service.

Total Satisfaction with food and taste, the place was jampacked with people so we expected that some of our request would take time and you have to repeat some because its a little diffucult to hear once you shifted your attention to the noise even for a split second

I’ve been in New York for five days and by far this was the worst food I had. The service was good and the atmosphere was nice but that did not make up for the food. The French onion soup was horrible and the escargot was salty and cold. We got a 12 ounce ribeye, which came with 5 ounces of straight fat. It’s also extremely overpriced for the quality of food. The best thing we had was the bread they give everybody and the french fries we ordered with the steak.

I arranged to celebrate a birthday there. The food was amazing. When I told the waitress it was my friend’s birthday, she went out of her way to arrange a dessert with a candle. Plus the restaurant gave her a book as a birthday gift. The sort of experiences cannot be bought. It is truly amazing food and ambience.

Solid Saturday night dinner experience! Great service and perfectly cooked food. It was a bit loud and didn’t love our table as the lighting was a tad harsh. Would definitely return.

Phenomenal experience. Drinks: I had the house manhattan which was made perfectly. My GF had a ketel one cosmo which was made to her liking (not too sweet). Appetizer: Escargot was as to be expected. Perfectly cooked. Great to have with their bread. Entree: my GF and I had the special which was a single bone NY strip/filet. 36oz with the filet on one side and the NY strip on the other. Comes with 3 house dipping sauces and an additional bone marrow add on. For sides we had the creamed potato and mushrooms. The steak was cooked perfectly the sides complimented the steak just the way we like. The special was more than enough for the both of us. I ended up taking some of the steak home and using it to make steak and egg burritos in the morning. Desert: we had a couple of espressos and the cream puff desert special with dark chocolate. We were very happy with the that. Overall our server was very thorough and there wasn’t a moment where I didn’t have a refill on deck. 10/10 highly recommend.

We really enjoyed our lunch at Boucherie. It was a pleasant, relaxing experience and the food was excellent. My steak was cooked perfectly and my wife loved the endive salad.

Medium rare was overcooked. Pink inside which is not medium rare as described on the menu. Main took 1 hour after placing order.

The black sesame creme brulee is a must try! Unique and delicious. The steak tartare was also perfect.

While we have dined at Boucherie Village other times and our experience has been positive, it was not so this time. Perhaps it was due to under staffing that day. Perhaps it was due to poor training. But no matter what the reason, a restaurant the purports to offer a high end dining experience should have done better. First, it took an inordinate amount of time for someone to take our order. Then, the entrees did not come all at once. All courses should be delivered at the same time. When mine arrived, after everyone else started, it was the wrong order. Since I did not want to wait, I accepted the wrong entrée and was told “it would be taken care of” later. I also requested a refill of coffee in the middle of my meal. Was my entrée “taken care of” when the check arrived? Yes, after I reminded the maître de. Did my refill of coffee arrive? Yes about 25 minutes later as we were finishing up, a lukewarm cup of diluted something arrived. Perhaps as someone who professionally reviewed restaurants in the past, I am sensitive to all aspects of a meal besides just the food. But again, for a restaurant that, at least according to the prices, sees itself as a more fine dining and less quick service restaurant, all aspects should be flawless.

Service wasn't good - very slow. Waiter said he'd comp a side; didn't. There was a cold draft in the inside space, a bit annoying. Sound system kept crackling, was weird. Food wasn't very good; my steak was overcooked (ordered medium-rare, came out near well!). Expensive and just didn't seem like a good value. Honestly not a great experience, I wouldn't go back or recommend.
