The American steakhouse is an iconic restaurant institution. We’d wanted to tell that story for years, but waited until we had the skill, talent and ability to execute it properly, and the right space to be our canvas, an important corner in Little Italy, a neighborhood where we have deep roots. We brought an almost academic appreciation for steakhouse history and tradition to Born & Raised, while trying to stay relevant and authentic to ourselves and our city. Our dry-aged beef pays tribute to earlier, earthier, pre-government grading practices and is the centerpiece of a meal best savored at a slow pace. Le lieu est tout aussi excitant que les steaks dans cet établissement de Little Italy. Le restaurant Born & Raised détourne le genre du steakhouse à l'ancienne en affichant des photos de légendes du rap dans sa salle à manger entièrement dorée et ultra-glamour. On y trouve les fameuses grillades, ainsi que des chariots qui préparent des cocktails vintage à table. Le résultat est un steakhouse qui en fait trop, idéal pour les plus grands flambeurs.

service and ambiance was amazing. great place to celebrate a special occasion. book the rooftop table you won’t regret it! food was good but can be pricey. Would come back again!

I usually love the experience here but this time was incredibly disappointing. When I made the reservation I was told they only had the rooftop available, which I preferred. We arrived at 7:45 for our reservation, which they then made us wait over 30 min to be seated for. And then we were sat in the main dining room, not the roof. The server rolled his eyes when we weren’t immediately ready to order. Then our food took an hour to come out, my steak was cold to the touch. One of the people in my group ordered halibut which they apparently had run out of and didn’t tell him, just brought him a different fish and we had to call it out. We ended up eating at 9:40 on a 7:45 reservation. They forgot to bring out one of our sides, they got our drink order wrong, after all this I spoke with the manager who offered free drinks and dessert, at this point it was 10pm and I was over it and wanted to leave. The manager offered to make it right and he did that by taking 15% off the bill. Which barely covers tax in SD. Didn’t comp the steak, or the fish they brought out cold and wrong. And we were charged for drinks we didn’t order. The bill was still $500 for an awful experience.

Great service and ambiance. Took a long time to get food though and my filet was only like warm. Did not want to deal with sending it back but this shouldn’t happen at these prices.

Great experience. This was my first time. The service, food, & ambiance was absolutely amazing. We sat on the second floor and had a lovely view of Little Italy. Our servers Megan, Joe, and Jake were incredible and made the night out excellent. Will definitely come back! Thank you

Took my mom for Mother’s Day and it was a great experience. Our waiter Reed was very informative on the menu and answered all our questions and made a great experience for us. The extras were definitely overpriced for the portion size however the potato puree and Mac and cheese was the best I ever had. And the only other negative was the steak knives being very dull which made it hard to cut into my steak.

In my opinion, born and Raise is the best restaurant in San Diego. Beyond exceptional service and food, steaks are always at the point. Beef Wellington and steak samplers are great! If they still have the Oyster dish, it must have !!

rooftop seating is a must, food and drinks were amazing. our server megan made the evening all that much better. they also accommodated us for an additional guest on a busy night which was super nice.

I had my birthday dinner here and it was amazing I sat on the rooftop it was the perfect temperature I was worried it would be cold but it was not at all. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding 10/10 would recommend. Overall such a great experience!

The service was excellent, but our steaks were not the best. I have had a better steak at a Wood Ranch and I expected better from here. Also, the potatoes that we ordered were extremely dry. I ordered them because of the excellent reviews, but I think we got a bad batch. The macaroni and the drinks were delicious though.

Celebrated our son's College Graduation. The place is gorgeous and we had such a lovely table. We loved the snails appetizer! Most of us loved our steaks; I had the Beef Wellington and it was delicious. My mom ordered the 8 oz filet, however, and for a $60 steak the presentation was awful. Tiny steak on a plate all by itself. No garnish, no sauce. Disappointing. The service was good initially, but thought our waiter started to ignore us towards the end; even had to ask if there were desert options as he never offered. Nice for a special occasion but $1000 for a party of 5 seemed a bit excessive.

Always a wonderful time! This time we tried the Wellington and it was amazing! It is very large, even for 2 people. The sommelier was also excellent and found a wine to pair with the Wellington.

It was my first time here, and I will for sure be back!! Such a cool spot, great service and good, wonderful atmosphere. Wasn’t too impressed with their cocktail list, but a full bar makes it easy to order anything. Great wine list though!

We started up stairs, and realized quickly that we preferred downstairs. Host was super nice and moved us downstairs, no problem. As soon as we sat down, I watched a blonde waitress inform the server he had a new table. I can see that it wasn’t a “positive” interaction. When I wanted to start with an appetizer, I was told I had to order everything I wanted then. I have never been told I had to order everything at once. I hadn’t even looked at the menu. I’ve never had this in the two other times I’ve been. So I rushed my order, essentially I did not order as much as I’d liked to. The Bone marrow was under cooked, realized it was a different color than the past two times Ive had it. The service wasn’t up the the usual standard. This is our third time here and pretty disappointed in the server we had. Honestly, for the price you pay for such a fine establishment, and the high tips we give on our $200-$400 bill, you expect exceptional service. It lacked. The service from the server is what makes the place so special. When that lacks, it’s almost not worth returning. The manager that came to the table to help me choose my champagne was lovely. Appreciated his help.

Excellent service, ambiance, and drinks. Food was overall good. Only issue we had was a burger we ordered was not just undercooked, but actually raw in some areas, which made my girlfriend very sick. Additionally, my steak was medium rare as opposed to medium. Server made a nice gesture and gave a slight discount on the burger and a free espresso martini shot. In all honestly, the burger should have been removed completely from the bill.

We had two servers - because of break timing - both were fabulous! Friendly happy and didn't let any time go by when we were wondering where he was .. We had 6 of us celebrating and a welcome 7th showed up. I was pleased no one made a big deal of it and we had a delightful delicious evening.

Overall, great experience! The service was beyond great, the food was delicious and the price was fair. The table-side drinks/ food made the expirience that much better. Totally recommend Born and Raised. Happy customer.

My husband and I went here to celebrate our marriage before taking off for our honeymoon. From the moment we checked in for our reservation the team made us feel so special. We were given complimentary champagne and dessert and received congratulations from every worker that crossed our table. We started with cocktails—I ordered the espresso martini, which turned out to be the best espresso martini I’ve ever had. My husband ordered an old fashioned and felt the same about his drink. The food was also incredible. We ordered the bread, tableside ceasar, Mac n cheese, and beef Wellington. Everything was 10/10 and BY FAR the best meal we’ve ever had. We are so happy we came here to celebrate our marriage and will definitely be coming back to celebrate other milestones in our lives.

If you want to dine in a energetic, 50’s vibe restaurant where you feel that at any moment Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack might come out and perform while you rub shoulders with other cool people such as yourself…well this is the place. Oh yeah, the food is great too! Don’t forget to order the carrot cake at the end.

Restaurant is noisy. Our first server had an attitude when we as him to wipe table. It still had food on it and was sticky from previous guests. He then said his shift was over and we got a new server. She was great!

Came here to celebrate a new job and promotion! Well worth it! Best night ever!! Food was so good and the ambience is stellar. Pretty pricey so it only works for extremely special occasions but it is certainly memorable and delightful. Never had a steak that compares - filet with blue cheese crust. Parents got the steak sampler and loved it. Reserved seats upstairs at the bar for after dinner coffee and that just topped off the night perfectly!! Highly recommend!

I come here about once a month for the past 4 months, and this was the first time i brought friends instead of a date. I wasn't sure how the second floor seating would be but it was beautiful with the weather. It was my friends' first time here and they also loved it. Can't wait to bring more friends here!

Los precios son muy caros y el peso de la carne que sirven no es menor al que cobran. Es un robo. Prices are high and the weight of the meat they serve is much less than what they serve. They will rob you.

Amazing dinner experience with the wife. The assistant manager came out to wish us a happy anniversary and offered us a complimentary glass of champagne. The sous chef also came out and talked about the food. Overall very pleasant experience as the staff went above and beyond to make our dinner reservation a memorable one.

Halibut was less than desirable. Best thing about our dinner selection was the Mac n cheese. Service was excellent. Wish we had the opportunity to sit upstairs versus downstairs. Upstairs is bright and cheerily, while seated downstairs was dark and gloomy. My friend had the ribeye which was tasty

The atmosphere was amazing, food was great and service as well. The rooftop dining was amazing at night with a beautiful view and heaters so you don’t have to worry about getting cold. They were very accommodating with my request to sit on the edge of the rooftop. Overall 10/10 experience!
