Second time here and both times were perfection. Food is delicious and comes in good portions. The DJ was a whole vibe but not loud enough where you can’t hear one another. Cute decor and yummy drinks. Definitely would recommend for a girls brunch, anniversary, or birthday.

I recently visited Books & Records in San Diego and had a fantastic dining experience. The highlight of the evening was definitely the ribeye steak. Cooked to perfection, the steak was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It came with a delicious barbecue sauce that complemented the meat perfectly. The accompanying sides, although not extraordinary, were satisfactory and paired well with the main course. Another standout was the Purple Rain cocktail. This drink, made with Japanese whisky, was a delightful blend of flavors that made it both unique and refreshing. The ambiance of the restaurant, enhanced by live jazz music, created a perfect setting for a memorable night out. Books & Records excels in both food and atmosphere, making it a great spot for a special evening or a casual night out with friends. I highly recommend trying the ribeye steak and sipping on a Purple Rain while enjoying the live music

Confusing why they wouldn’t seat us until entire party has arrived if there is already a 90 minute time limit from time of reservation. Bartender that served us lacked friendliness. Our server was amazing however. She was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. The food and drinks were very good.

Dishes had WAY too many things going on with them. Too many odd flavors and weird proportions of different components. The vibe is cool, but they need to dial the food in better. They are kind of going for an Ottolenghi thing, but many of the ingredients did not go well together in my opinion.

It was delicious! The Maitakeyaki was amazing and so was the charred cabbage! We even bought a gift certificate

I have heard great things about this place so I decided to make a reservation for my husband’s birthday. Everything we order was amazing! The plus we came during happy hour 5-6pm.
