Le restaurant Boka, primé d'une étoile Michelin, est connu dans le monde culinaire de Chicago depuis 2003. En Janvier 2014, suite à une rénovation importante, le chef Lee Wolen se joint à l'équipe en tant que partenaire et chef exécutif. Depuis son arrivée à Boka, les critiques s'y intéressent particulièrement. Phil Vettel du Chicago Tribune et du Eater Chicago a reconnu Lee comme "Le Chef de l'année 2014." Plus récemment, Lee a été nommé 'Chef de l'année' en 2015 et le restaurant Boka a reçu le prix de 'Restaurant de l'année' pendant la soirée réputée des Jean Banchet Awards, tenue à Chicago. Le Boka propose une cuisine américaine contemporaine qui se transforme au gré des saisons et de l'approvisionnement des ingrédients locaux, autant que possible. La chef pâtissière Meg Galus, membre de l'équipe Boka depuis 2015, intègre parfaitement le sucré et le salé tout en respectant l'utilisation d'ingrédients de grande qualité - tout comme le fait Wolen - qui sont préparés et présentés de façon magnifique.

Boka is proud to continue our seasonal Boka: The Cookbook dinner series, celebrating the arrival of Spring for this second installment in our four-part dinner series. Each of the four tasting menu-style dinners will take place across the year, showcasing hyper-seasonal recipes straight from the cookbook's pages. The Spring chapter will take place on Wednesday, May 15th, promising an immersive six-course feast for the senses. Reservations are priced at $175 per person and include a signed copy of Boka: The Cookbook. An optional wine pairing is available for purchase. Due to the nature of this dinner, we are unable to accommodate specific allergies and dietary restrictions.

We tried the tasting menu and it was amazing. My favorites were the hiramasa and the buckwheat porridge. However, there was nothing I didn’t like!

We were visiting Chicago and were able to get a reservation. The restaurant is comfortable, well appointed. The food is top quality and beautifully presented without being too”swell.” And we had fun!

Wonderful setting and excellent service. The duck and truffle chicken were amazing. I have never had chicken so tender it melts in your mouth.

Tasting menu was superb and the reserve wine pairing was wonderful - when the sommelier came by the table he was so warm and passionate to share the background on different wines. The only negative was the service from our main waiter. He was moody and cold in a way that did not match the ambience or service from other members of the team.

It was on our list of “final restaurants” before we leave Chicago for Miami, and we are so happy that we re-visited Boka tonight. So sad to leave it, but so thankful for it.

Slanted tables at an awkward and unprofessional incline meant any sauce poured on the dish collected on one side, creating an ugly unappetizing mess from a visual perspective. Air conditioning blowing on us frequently throughout the night. Asked to move tables but the host refused despite there being 5+ tables free and available for us next to us (that were not slanted either). We were one of the last parties for the night, so the issue wasn’t that the tables were reserved for other people. Instead they decided somehow that it would be better to turn off the AC every time it decided to turn on. This happened several times throughout our meal, ruining the meal and mood. Table was left dirty after each course. Had some weird liquid on the table that the server never bothered to clean but always made sure to set the silverware on… Very odd and poor attention to detail given that this restaurant has one star. Food was good and met standards for what was expected. Overall, for the terrible service, ambience, and good food, this was not worth the visit. Maybe if it was someone’s very last restaurant on a Chicago Michelin-guide bucket list it’d be okay, but otherwise would not recommend with many other, better options available. Go elsewhere.
