Order immediately. The kitchen takes 30+ minutes to prepare rolls when the place is at half occupancy. Other locations have a more polished, consistent operation. The LA Crunchy is delicious, as is everything else I had.

Great food! The sushi rolls are awesome! Lettuce wraps are phenomenal. Service was good. They were super busy but food came out fast. Drinks were slow. Will definitely be back.

Have been here numerous times and enjoyed it but tonight...terrible service.. had to ask for drinks after ordering. Appetizer came...cold. with the main course and one person's order for main came way after everyone else. Love coming here after performances at the Civic Center but I value my investment so mat look elsewhere. Server was either new or overworked.

Just moved to Iowa from California and have been looking for a good Sushi restaurant and I think we found it! Very nice restaurant in nice looking neighborhood in downtown Des Moines. Will be going back numerous times a year!

Our family had a great time enjoying a very excellent meal at Blue Sushi Sake Grill tonight. Our server, Catherine, was absolutely amazing. We will define be back and ask for her.

Food was good, but took way too long to arrive. There was a 30+ minute gap between receiving our appetizer and the sushi. The server was snotty about it when we asked to check on our order, saying that it takes 30-35 minutes (for 3 rolls?) for sushi orders. This timing is not listed on the menu nor were we warned when ordering. It definitely put a damper on the evening and we rushed to eat when it finally arrived as we had show tickets at the civic center.

Hello, we're sorry to hear of your disappointment. No, we do not put anything about timing on our menus. I've never heard of anyone doing that before. It definitely can take thirty minutes to receive your sushi as everything is hand-rolled to order, nothing is pre-rolled. We will always try and accommodate our guests though. Made a reservation but they overbooked and had to put us at the sushi counter. We didn't mind and seeing the sushi be made was quite cool, and they were very apologetic and comped much of our order. The food was amazing! One of us doesn't like sushi, the other loves sushi, but we both thought the food was absolutely amazing. The dessert and drinks were also very good. We will definitely be coming back. 10/10

We stopped in for New Year's with a reservation. I had called earlier that day to confirm that the Sunday happy hour was still happening even with the holiday. We were told that indeed Happy Hour was going on all day. We arrived for our reservation a bit early but the host/manager was amazing and was able to find us a seat quickly and accommodated our small group. The service and food were excellent as always! Blue Sake has been our favorite sushi spot in Des Moines for over 4 years! We enjoyed our dinner and as we were getting ready to leave we received our check with the full-priced items on it. We asked the waitress and she said that happy hour had ended for the new year. This was a bit disappointing we had hoped for better communication of the days deals.

This was our 3rd trip within the last 14 months. We made reservations each time and were seated almost immediately each time. Our sushi was delivered relatively quick and the quality was very good. Server was friendly and helpful. Overall, a good experience. We look forward our next visit.

Drinks are tasty, food is tasty, service was good, but it was super loud and hard to talk, I think we will ask for a booth next time so we can actually talk to eat other.

Our 4th visit to Blue Sushi was as usual, outstanding food and an enjoyable start to our evening. Our server, Katherine was really great. We were last there 3 months ago and she remembered us. That's pretty impressive. She was very knowledgeable about the food, menu, and timing of getting various choices served at the right time. The Mango Crab Rangoon is simply the best way to start. The Hawaiian Roll, and Tidal Wave were perfect. We ate early prior to the DMCC performance at 7:30 and they were already fairly busy. No complaints but one thing worth mentioning, is the seating. The padded benches one side of the tables are long past their prime. Sitting with the table so high as you sink into the seat is not comfortable. Be sure to ask for a table with chairs all around.

My daughter and I went for supper before a concert and it was the perfect way to kick off our night. We had never been before and our server was extremely helpful and recommended an option on the appetizer that we wanted and then 2 sushi rolls we hadn't ever tried which ended up being our favorites of the night. Fabulous experience and will definitely be back.

Had dinner here before the symphony and it was very convenient, lovely service and recommendations from staff were great. However, fell a bit short menu wise. Hard to find any of the rolls using actual crab, not crab mix which is generally artificial crab. Highly recommend the Eden roll and their other vegan options are plentiful. There was only one non alcoholic mocktail available of the 3 options and it was bit watered down and disappointing, my friend said her cocktail was was very average. Overall, it was good not great but with price, location and ambiance, would return again.

The room was so hot, no air. We waited 2 hours for our meal. The was cold and so many tables got their food before us and they came anywhere from a half an hour to an hour after us. So disappointing. We were celebrating birthdays and this put a damper on our celebrations.

First time at this restaurant and great experience! Easy to book reservation online. Wonderful service that ran smoothly. Wait staff was attentive, kind, and even gave some awesome recommendations on drinks/dishes at the restaurant. Good food and easy lunch downtown!

One of those places wioth small amount of food for a lot of money. My wife and I had to eat leftover pizza when we got home. Very disappointing. The one exception was the Mango rangoons. A plentiful plate and delicious. We may go back and just order 3 plates of the Rangoons

We were looking forward to having octopus - no octopus. Such tiny pieces of tuna, salmon in our maki. Tasted fine. Tough to get iced tea refills - menu doesn’t show iced tea as an option. Asked for more wasabi 3 times - finally received it. It was an ok experience.

Not our first visit to the Blue Sushi Sake Grill. We ate early prior to going to the DMCC Theater and were surprised by the "Happy Hour" specials at our 5:00 PM reservation. Our server Catherine was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The Mango Crab Rangoon was the perfect starter. The Crunchy LA roll and the Hawaiian roll were both delicious as well. What a pleasant way to start the evening.

Fun and trending place to eat sushi. Sushi was great, very fresh and high quality. You do pay extra, but in my opinion it is worth it. Staff was friendly, the sushi bar was a great date spot.
