Blade 1936 is an upscale casual modern Italian restaurant which took over the historic Blade Tribune and News Building in Oceanside. Blade 1936 features authentic Italian cuisine and wood-fired pizza. Our menu features fresh pastas, local seafood, steaks and sinful desserts. We have Vegan and Gluten Free menus.

Featuring two private dining rooms, Blade 1936 is the perfect venue for your special occasions. Our private wine room seats up to 60 guests and the Chef table seats up to 10. Our outdoor patio is perfect for dining al fresco with your pet.

We've eaten here often and food was mediocre. Lackluster service (including lack of water refills), undercooked fingering potatoes and one of the two pizzas we ordered. When manager checked on our experience he said we should order something different, I.e., he could have easily created customer delight by offering a small bowl of pasta or something else to address our dissatisfaction. We think they were more focused on wine dinner in the other room.

Expected a bit higher end restaurant- more like a pizza joint with some pasta and fish. Also my wife’s 60th birthday (owner even asked us when we arrived- no recognition beyond that). We feel we wasted one of our nights visiting the area by going to this restaurant- we would not pick it again.

Not a bad place for an Italian restaurant in Oceanside. I ordered the pasta with truffle and cream sauce and it was very delicious. For an appetizer, my wife and I ordered Calamari and I’d honestly have to say that it was not the best. Calamari was not hot or warm and was disappointing. The dinner entree and desert were the saving grace. Overall, I’d go back for the pasta though.

Food was pretty good, service a bit slow but we will go back - solid enough and not a deal breaker.

The calamari was bland and rubbery. The pesto pasta is very rich and needs some acid. The mango sorbet was great and refreshing

Went there for Mother’s Day dinner. 3 course meal menu had a variety of classic Italian food specialties. The appetizers had a good selection. Main menu had great classics and we had tiramisu and chocolate cake for desserts. Exceptional overall. A great meal, nice atmosphere and great service.

We waited for a decent amount of time beyond our reservation to be seated and ended up being seated outside. Appetizers and kids good came before our drinks. A waitress dropped hot pepper flakes all over our kid’s pizza. The entrees were good - pastas and pizza. However, we’d pass on the appetizers. The octopus was chewy and fishy, the prosciutto burrata was fine, and the focaccia was very dry (and already included with the burrata-so a waste of money. The place has potential for a nicer-casual Italian spot in Oceanside, but the flustered service really killed it for us. Better descriptions of the appetizers would help too.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the food was good.The service is excellent.The ambience in the main area is fine, but the back room.It was so so noisy...terrible.... We could not have a Simple conversation at our table without hollering.
