Expect the Unexpected at Black Walnut. Concept owned by Chef Andrew Black – a 2023 James Beard Award winner for Best Chef Southwest, and a 2022 James Beard Award semifinalist for Outstanding Chef. Blending American cuisine with the neighborhood’s cultural history, the menu is eclectic and vibrant. The pairing of global street cocktails from Bali to Brazil adds to its culinary spirit, and a spacious patio and happy hour specials make this our community’s new favorite place to come together. The food was excellent. Great flavors that were unique enough to be interesting but felt familiar (in a good way) too. Friendly staff was attentive but overall service was a little on the relaxed side. If you have time to relax yourself, it should not be an issue and might even enhance your experience. Definitely a place to try if you have not been before.

My husband and I went for the first time and had an amazing experience. From the time we walked in to the time we left, we were treated with exceptional service and warm kindness by the staff. Our waiter was Portia and she was extremely sweet, informing us on the menu, checking in with us and making sure we were satisfied. The food was amazing!! But the customer service made the time even better. My only suggestion would be to have better lighting as the dining room is very dim, we couldn’t see our food or each other too well..or atleast a candle at the tables :) We loved the fried Mac and Cheese balls, truffle fries, the steak, the side of potatoes and brussel sprouts, and the lamb.

This was the best experience in the city. I felt like I was in New York, Atlanta, or even in another country. Everything was beyond what I expected. An excellent place for any or no occasion.

While this food is delicious, it was out of a main course vegan option on their special Mother's Day menu. Another item we ordered didn't list the goat cheese/chevre on it. The other vegan entree I was left with was really an appetizer. Not sure if I'll go back or not.

The food served at the Black Walnut is excellent! They have a unique artisan style of presentation, while the flavors will surprise and satisfy the palette. Our server was attentive and friendly as well. Bravo!

My husband and I came down from Dallas to take our parents out to eat. We had a reservation at 8:15 and were not sat until 9:05. We were offered free cocktails which were poorly made. We immediately ordered our appetizers and entrees. The appetizers came out quickly. However, our entrees did not get to our table until 10:07. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry, we should have never had to ask for a manager to explain our disappointment. This information should have been relayed and rectified without us having to do so on our own. Unfortunately, we will not be returning nor recommending.

We were extremely disappointed. We had such high expectations from a James Beard award winner. The highlight were the truffle fries. Everything that was fried were too dark, overdone and had an oil taste. The beef was fine but the meat was diced so small and just tasted like any other pot roast. The ambiance was lacing, loud and seems to serve a bat type atmosphere. The service was subpar. I was excited to take my husband for his birthday and we were anxious to leave.
