Do you love Italian food? A world famous restaurant executive chef says it all by saying, “the best meals in California are at Carmel Bistro Giovanni!” An artful, romantic setting with an international wine list and amazing cocktails.

Try some of our specialties: the "Mamma Mia" features mouth-watering meatballs with pasta and southern Mediterranean-spiced sauce, Veal Osso Buco, Lamb Shank, certified Angus steaks, and a plethora of seafood including halibut, salmon and sand dabs! For our gluten-free guests, we can also provide gluten free pasta and bread.
*Patio availability depending on weather. We do have limited covered tables outdoors. Please understand this when booking.
* For parties of 6 or more we require a credit card to hold your table with a 24 hour cancellation policy, $25 per person will be applied to your credit card for late cancellations and no shows.
*We have a $30 corkage fee for a standard size bottle (750 ml.) 2 bottle maximum per table.

The food is great and service is good. Veal dishes are outstanding and consistent over time. Garlic bread is well prepared and served hot.

Everything we got was pretty good. The service that evening was unfortunately the weak link. Not certain if our waiter kept forgetting about us. We literally witnessed 3 other tables that were sat after us all get served, pay and leave. We were there an additional 30 minutes just waiting to get boxes and pay. Kind of frustrating for an otherwise good meal.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. I guess it’s iconic in Carmel. Server was friendly but was not paying attention to the food and beverages ordered.

What a gem. The garlic bread was to die for. The service was the most responsive I have ever seen. And the murals inside are incredible. We enjoyed getting to meet Giovanni himself! What a lovely, personable, charming, and delicious bistro.

My wife and I had a nice dinner here on a Saturday night. This was our third time dining at Bistro Giovanni. The first time was amazing, the second and third okay. Mama’s Spaghetti was very tasty, salads were average, the wine poor. Be prepared as we should have that Saturday nights are crazy busy and crazy loud.

The service was mediocre at best. Food was okay. We asked to be educated about “Block 57” wine because that was the only choice for a Cab except for a $450 Opus One… we were told it is the owner’s private label. And the Napa Valley on the label was just where the grapes are grown, nothing else about it. It tasted like glorified grape juice, and while drinkable, not worth the $85/bottle in our opinion. After our food was brought to us, the next time she popped over was to hand us dessert menus (they were placed on the table without a word), didn’t ask us how the meal was at all. Food was pretty good (seafood risotto special and chicken parm tasted good and were prepared well). The meatball appetizer was good as well. Overall, not an awful experience, but I probably wouldn’t return.
