Le bar-restaurant Birch’s a officiellement déménagé au bord du lac ! Ce bâtiment emblématique accueillait autrefois le Hansen House dans les années 1960 avant de devenir le Billy’s Lighthouse, lieu de prédilection pour les nombreux habitants de Long Lake et de ses quartiers de la banlieue ouest. Il est resté à l'abandon depuis 2006, jusqu'à sa nouvelle reconversion par le restaurateur local Burton Joseph et le maître brasseur local Brennan Greene.     We stopped by Birch's for a birthday reservation, drawn by the lovely views. We ordered the Friday King's and Queen's prime rib cuts and the steak frites. While the prime rib was good, the baked potato sides were undercooked and served with the wrong topping--loaded with horseradish and no butter. The replacement potato was also undercooked and crumbled apart. Despite informing the waiter that we were celebrating a birthday, he only checked on us near the end of our meal to see how things were and to bring the bill. He never asked if we wanted more drinks or offered the dessert menu. When I requested the dessert menu, he seemed to forget and brought the bill instead. Overall, we found the service and quality to be overrated, especially considering we spent over $250 for three people.

    We were able to make reservations for our date and time a week ahead and by our requested window seat, so we were very pleased. One of the four has mobility issues and with the help of our party she was able to navigate the two sets of steps and help with opening the front door. The food was very good and the drinks, too. All of us ordered different entrees and each liked what they ordered.

    We celebrated my daughter's graduation here, and every staff are nice and welcoming. Someone gave us a bottle of champagne to celebrate. We actually arrived way early as in an hour early for our reservations but they able to accommodate us and gave us view of the lake. Thank you Johnny for helping us. Very memorable occasion and thank you for being wonderful and flexible to our family❤️. Highly recommendable!

    We have eaten at Birches on the Lake many times over the years. The last time we went there was a little disappointing for the following reasons. My wife ordered a filet minion medium and I ordered a prime New York strip steak medium-rare. My steak was cooked rare and was rather tough. My wife’s fillet was cooked rare as well. She sent it back and it came back burned on the outside. The manager, to his credit, had the kitchen cook another one on the house. It was done a perfect medium and was quite tasty. Neither steak was cheap but neither came came with anything else. Sides had to be ordered separately at additional cost. The grilled asparagus was very good, but the mashed potatoes were bland. The relish tray that was served has not changed in years. It contains one carrot stick, one celery stick, some potato salad, salmon spread, and soda crackers. It looked old and tired.

    If brreakfast is what you want, this may not be the place. Steamed clams were fanstatic. Had the house breakfast and corned beef hash. All ingredients were top notch, however, quite lacking in execution. Overeasy eggs looked as if cook had never cooked eggs. Eggs were Very brown but raw inside, haphazardly stacked ontop each other as if they dropped them into the plate from 5ft above so the gorgeous golden yellow yolked eggs with the whites all broken (eggs were scraped off a burned surface) appeared quite unappetizing. Bacon, sausage and biscuits all clearly from day before. Biscuit was microwaved with a gummy texture. Delicious corned beef cut in large 1inch chunks were tossed in with chunks of potatoes, microwaved and doused with a yummy sauce. Sort of offputting when nothing was sauteed or browned, simply wet and soggy. Ordered toast, but were told at service they only provide housemade jam, which was an hour away from being done, so, cold toast at a that point were provided with butter. Appears they were getting ready downstairs for a party, but wait staff for our section did not seem busy. We’ve heard great things about this establishment for dinners, will still give them benefit of the doubt. But there were a lot lacking based on what we saw, hope it was simply some major missteps on that day. Beautiful restaurant, gorgeous views, high quality ingredients.
