The ambiance and space are beautiful and buzzy but not overwhelmingly loud. When we arrived, our table wasn’t ready, but the very friendly people at the hostess stand asked us to sit in the patio and immediately brought us a drink menu. By the time our drinks came, our table was ready. All the food we ordered, was delicious and very fresh! We ordered the duck hummus, the cheese platter, the prawns, lamb shawarma, and ice cream dessert, truly one of the best meals I’ve had all year! The only complaint, was our server was incredibly rushed and impatient. He came over throughout dinner asked us questions, but would walk away before we were able to fully answer or ask about any clarifications. He brought our check while we were starting dessert without asking if we wanted any additional drinks or anything, which we wanted to order, and made us feel very rushed and there were plenty of other open tables for any parties coming in, so not sure what the exact issue was. Despite his short demeanor, I’d recommend this restaurant for any special occasion or to bring a visitor from out of town and show them one of LA’s great restaurants.

Go for the spreads, appetizers and desserts. Prawns were salty but rest were amazing! So good. You can skip ALL the entrees. Seriously, skip the entrees.

My third visit. Love it every time. Brought a newbie. She read menu prior to going and was like "no thanks". I said you are going. She loved every aspect. I had no doubt of that outcome. She is trying to figure out how to get her hubby to LA just for Bavel. See you then!

Always a great meal at Bavel. Special shout outs to Tom, who I believe is their wine director, and the entire bar team. They were attentive, professional, exemplified positive and fun energy. Couldn't have been happier with our date night.

Bavel is exemplary in setting the standard for elevated cuisine, outstanding and friendly service and a visually stimulating atmosphere. I had high hopes due to my visits to Bestia and they still superseded all expectations. Thank you Bavel for an Exquisite experience

This is generally our go-to for great meals when we are celebrating. The food is always delicious and unique! The only issue last night was our server, Aleah, was in a bad mood and seemed to argue with us regarding our choices of entree and the order we wanted it served. We like to start with the salad and vegetable appetizers and then have the Farm cheese and bread, and when we asked for that order, she balked. We have done this order before and NEVER had a problem, but she deliberately failed to work with us and brought the bread out early. We also wanted to order the Lamb neck Shawarma and the Wagyu tagine, and she told us not to order the tagine, but to order a leaner meat and order the whole lamb. (We already have lamb neck, that’s enough lamb, thanks!) We have four people and we are ok with the tagine, but again, she was surly and literally looked irritated at us when we didn’t change our choice…I mean she flat out ARGUED with us! It was really uncomfortable and she spoiled the birthday dinner! I just ate at Houston’s in Pasadena last night, Chez Panisse in Berkeley and French Laundry two weeks ago…in every case, the server made suggestions, but they weren’t combative. I felt like she was being either judgmental or bossy, but it was the worst dining experience I have had at Bavel in a dozen visits. Maybe if she had smiled once when she spoke to us, it would have helped.

Everything was great outside of our waitress that night. After she took our order she was never around when we needed her. We had to ask the other staff to locate her. When my cousin ordered a mocktail and wine, we didn’t see the mocktail throughout the night. When we asked about canceling the mocktail, the waitress said “oh I didn’t know you wanted it. We were just talking about it.” No apologies or sorry for the miscommunication. I heard my cousin ordering the mocktail. Then at the end of our meal she was available since she had to provide us our check. Once I signed it I had it sitting in front of me since we were still enjoying our dessert, she reached across the table while we were eating and grabbed the signed receipts. No thank you for joining us or excuse my reach, nothing nice. The worst part was just reaching across our food to grab the receipt, and then walking away to see how much tip we left her. Horrible service

The food here is otherworldly! You absolutely must try the fried pita; it’s melt in your mouth delicious. The marinated olives, mushroom skewers, celery root, and asparagus all left me absolutely speechless. Not to mention their Nebuchadnezzar old fashioned! The most perfect cocktail I’ve ever had.

Were it not for the lack of service and the manner in which you are greeted and relegated to small and uncomfortable waiting area until your entire party has arrived to be seated (we were a party of 3), I would have rated this restaurant a 5 level, because the food is EXTRAORDINARY. It’s a shame that the chef’s excellent effort in creative and delicious shareable plates are being overshadowed by the manner in which you are greeted and the seeming lack interest in serving us by the waitress in charge of our table. Hey chef…time to invest some time out with your patrons…maybe?

Too noisy for BD celebration. It’s nice for 2-3 people who can scream over the noise but not for party of 4 and over. Portions are mostly not shareable and menu is pretty limited. I came hungry and left hungry minus $350

The spreads were good, the appetizers were fantastic, but our entree (the lamb neck shawarma) was poorly cooked. While that can be subjective, the service was objectively chaotic. A different server approached our table at each interaction, we never saw the same server twice. This led to confusion as to if we had ordered, what we had ordered, if we wanted to add on food and drinks throughout. It was a very frustrating experience, at the fault of no individual server, but this approach to service overall.

Sadly waited 15min for a staff member to come over after being sat. Service felt like we were an after thought rather than a customer. The food was good and it was very busy so I hope that’s why it took so long to be acknowledged. However I don’t plan on coming back anytime soon.

A restaurant should really tell you if you’ll be seated in the plastic sheeted, temporary Covid era terrace. You pay the same, very high, price for a fraction of the experience of the restaurant. A restaurant is more than the food so eating in a crappy ‘terrace’ is not good enough. Service was poor - disinterested and yet impatient. Not a great experience, which is a shame as the food is great and if you’re in the restaurant and not eating in the car park it’s cool.

The food is delicious and the service was great. Valet is $13. I sat inside and it was very loud with conversations. The only thing I didn't like much was the high top table I sat at is connected to the bench seat by a large pipe in the middle. So to sit perfectly in the middle of the table you have to straddle a pipe between your legs... awkward design.

Bavel's food is creative and well prepared, but the high noise level spoils the overall dining experience. The table servers snatch the plates from the table without asking the guests' permission. The dishes arrive in rapid succession as if telling the guests to consume them quickly and leave the restaurant.

Wonderful service- even though the place was packed from the minute they opened their doors till closing , no one rushed us . Each item we had ordered came on time with the right temperature! Wonderful food AND omg! Drinks ! Worth every penny .

The food was amazing ! Lamb was out of this world. And the sommelier was really helpful and recommended some great wines. My only critic would be that it’s very noisy so it’s hard to have a conversation if you have a big group. But overall it’s one of the best restaurants in LA.

Excellent service. Excellent cocktails We ordered the Following: farm cheese, babaganoush, oyster mushroom kebob, and grilled prawns. None of these were anything to write home about. The bread, however, was fire. Way too expensive and overhyped. I really wanted to love this place too, but not worth the price to be honest. Had better food at some mom and pop Lebanese place in NYC. Haven’t found the equivalent in LA yet.

Excellent food and service. We left so full and so happy. Don’t sleep on the veggie items-out of this world good-even for a carnivore!

Extremely loud (Saturday night), boring hip hop music playing, unhappy servers, food is good-to-excellent though. Some dishes appear vegetarian but have non-vegetarian elements not listed on the menu.
