Our monthly dinner series where the chef team curates a menu around the what's new, seasonal, and exciting to the chef. It was my birthday and the man seating us said happy birthday but the server never acknowledged it so that was a little disappointing.

Outside of happy hour, sushi is mid (same price taste way better @ Jeff Rubys), cocktails are great

We sat at the bar and had a great experience. The bar tender was excellent. He made some great recommendations and was very attentive.

Was slightly disappointed during my first visit here - the food was great but none of the bartenders/servers were able to give any recommendations or knew anything about the menu (“I’m not sure, I just work here” was a direct quote when we ask about popular rolls). Also waited 10-15 mins before someone came over to make me a cocktail… and I was the only person at the bar while I was waiting for my friend. Bizarre service for a sushi place claiming to be high end. Food was delish though so if you don’t care about service, I’d recommend.

My wife and I met a friend who was visiting Cincinnati for the first time and let us know she really loved sushi. We chose Baru because of our great experiences in the past. We started off with 3 Lobster shots which never disappoint. They are delicious and I wish they offered it by the bowl. We split 3 different house Maki Rolls. We had the Fallen Angel, Trifecta and the Dynamite. We decided we needed to pick a favorite and it was a tie. Each of us picked a different roll but they were all fantastic. Our server was great, very attentive but not in your face. We ate early so it was not crowded, which it can get very busy later, but that is also the charm and provides a NY City vide in the restaurant. We will be back.

Fun atmosphere. Food was really good and there were options for both the sushi eater and non-sushi eater in our party. Could have filled up on the small plates alone. Plan to return for a pre-show meal again in the future!

Where are waitress name Jenna and she did a great job.Very cool decor. Unfortunately, the food was super salty. Which I think was because the rice which was in every dish that we had had too much salt in it but I’m not sure. Both my wife and I just found the food to be way too salty. We eat sushi regularly. This is the first time we’ve ever encountered such an issue.

We ate before show at Arnoff, great to have light filling meal, sushi was excellent and the Brussel sprout appetizer was pleasant surprise, nice to have saki for change.

went for restaurant week....it was a great deal. We sat at the bar ( we asked to sit at a booth and were told that it wasn't available, but it didnt get filled until 2 hours in... hmm) - nonetheless we loved sitting at the bar and Kendall was terrific; very attentive! the four of us ordered 3 of the "meal options" allowing us to try almost all of the options! The brussels were amazing, edamame plentiful and had an interesting flavor, the spinach salad also was quite large and very good too. The rolls and meals were good. nice vibe in here; cool lights above the bar that move up and down and at times change colors.... apparently later in the night it gets ROCKIN' with a DJ!

When I first looked at the menu I was skeptical but it was really good. They have Japanese beers on tap. The vibe wasn’t really Japanese but the decor was Asian, mostly Chinese. Music was American. We ordered the tuna tuna tuna roll, beef tataki, tuna fire crunch, chicken katsu, and chicken fried rice. The belle of the ball was definitely Beef Tataki, it was so delicious 😋 I highly recommend it. Fried rice was ok and the tuna tuna tuna roll was better than the tuna fire crunch. The service was good, decor is cool, and it’s nice to have another restaurant in the area.

Small plates but are good. The grill is fun for the kids but it doesn’t come with anything and its not a lot of meat. Parking is never an issue.

Food was delish! Crispy tuna app, crispy Brussels sprouts, salmon sashimi and Fallen Angel roll were all stand outs. The moving lights were very fun and our server was excellent! Pricey but worth it for a nice evening out!

Food was great for the most part. People at the sushi counter were amazing. Had lobster toast for $22 and sent it back with nothing in return. Tasted like toast and nothing else. The chef's choice of sashimi was really good. The restaurant was extremely loud and seemed trendy. The waitress was just ok. I think the people at the sushi counter would do much better!

First time here. Loved the Expresso PB martini, spicy tuna and rice and the lobster toast. Also the seared salmon was delicious. We will be back!

the restaurant is a great idea for the location. it falls flat on the service. first, i was a little disappointed that you *must* call ahead by days to prearrange the omakase service. you serve sushi; there should be some latitude for chefs choice every night. second, there was no coordination between the sushi chef and the kitchen preparing our appetizers. everything came all at once. what could have been a nice evening out turned out to be a rushed evening meal, more akin to lunch service. was the food good, sure was. would i go back again, no -- not at that price point for the service received.

Ordered the chef’s choice and was offered fresh wasabi for $5 extra. That price should have just been included in the chef’s choice and the patron be given fresh wasabi at that price.

Truly a Cincinnati gem. Unique sushi and related options, wide selection of sake and craft cocktails. Staff was friendly and helpful, and it would be equally as enjoyable at a table or at the bar . Very interesting lighting. Later at night on weekends (at 10?) it turns into a club.

We sat at the bar and Kendall was our server. She was incredible and really made our experience outstanding. Her recommendations were excellent. We loved the tuna on crispy rice & Brussel sprouts. Also loved the gravlox nigiri. The moving lights at the bar were a little weird but overall cool atmosphere. Definitely going back.

The sushi and sake we got at Baru was so worth it. The staff was attentive and the bouncing lights at the sushi bar were so fun! It’s on the pricier side but it is hand crafted sushi with a knowledgeable staff. Worth it!
