Recommended in the MICHELIN Guide for California 2021-2023. Located in Oakland’s historic Grand Lake District, Bardo is a neighborhood lounge and restaurant inspired by the comfort and camaraderie of a mid-century dinner party. Drawing on the celebration and elegance of old school entertaining, we envisioned a space for friends and neighbors to enjoy amazing food, cocktails, conversation and great music.

Our lounge is a swank living room, furnished with hand-picked finds from antique and vintage markets from Palm Springs to Portland. Our mezzanine dining room features a rotating menu of fresh, seasonal supper-fare with local and sustainably sourced meats, fish and produce. While we think the food, drinks and atmosphere are all great reasons to visit us, it’s the relationships with our friends, neighbors and guests that is the driving force behind Bardo.

Dining with friends? You can't go wrong with our family style Dinner Party Menu. We include an array of house selected apps, mains and desserts from our current seasonal menu. All dishes are meant to be shared among your whole group. Sample a little or a lot of whatever meets your fancy! It's a great way to dine and depending on the night, Chef Amol might stop by your table for a little visit! Food cost is $75/pp and does not include beverages. 20% gratuity and tax will be added to the check.

Killer restaurant, killer service, this place nails upscale supper club right on the head. The $75pp chefs selection is the best value I’ve seen come out of a restaurant yet, it was around 9 courses, all excellent, and more than enough to eat for 2. Will be back!

We had the dinner party experience for my birthday, and everything was beautifully presented and delicious. I would bring someone here to spend some quality time together because it’s the kind of lively place where you need to be physically close to have conversation. Before starting the meal, I was already impressed with the charming decor and wandered around marveling at all the dinner party relics. I told our server, Emma, that I loved good surprises and was really looking forward to the dinner party experience, and asked if she could also provide me with wine pairings with each course. She said that wasn’t an official offering, but she liked the idea and felt comfortable accommodating me. I was not disappointed. From the first course through dessert, everything was excellent and practically perfect! Highlights were the deviled eggs, chicory salad, handmade pasta, braised cauliflower, and the “Twinkie”. That’s not to say the other dishes weren’t good, just that these were exceptional. Of course gratuity was included with our check, but I was in such a good mood afterwards that I added a little extra because Emma and the rest of the staff were so professional and accommodating. Can’t wait to go back!

We had the tasting meal for two. Great value! food was no quite perfect. Ambience was great. We unfortunately had a very loud table next to us. Bad luck Service was wonderful. I would recommend the restaurant.

Food was quite tasty, particularly the grits that came with the chicken and the fudge brownie. We were seated on the upper level next to a table of loungers (not diners) and if they had been any louder, I'd be billing the restaurant for new eardrums. This was not our usual experience at the restaurant, but you need to look about you when they lead you to your table. There's a nice little nook for two to the left of the host's podium.

Went for restaurant week and I had the fixed price menu. I enjoyed my meal but my friends weren’t bowled over. Service was very good and the upstairs space is nice. However, the noise level was uncommonly loud for a ‘fine’ dining experience. Definitely more ‘club’ than ‘lounge.’ Glad I tried it, but doesn’t make my cut for a repeat visit anytime soon.

I liked this place but thought value for what you got was not reasonable. Food was good but not at the price point. The ambiance was nice and could be a nice get together with friends for a drink.

Our 3rd time at Bardo so we obviously like it. The vibe is chill and cool. Feel like you in an old school lounge and on of the brat pack will walk through the door at some point. We arrived early, had drinks then moved to our table and ordered apps, salads and mains. Everything came out timely and was hot. The chicken liver pate was taste but there was an abundance of salt on the bread. The same was true for the ribeye. Our awesome server adjusted our bill to rationalize for the problems. All in all it was a good outing.
