This is Greece.

Bar Vlaha tells the story of the Vlach people, the founders of hospitality and Greek cooking. A nomadic group of shepherds who created and nurtured the roots of Hellenic cooking as we know it. Straying from the tried-and-true island cuisine, we're rediscovering Greek fare sourced from rural mountains, lakes and villages of Central and Northern Greece.

Bar Vlaha captures the true soul of Greek cooking with rustic and nomadic traditions using charcoal and open fire gastra techniques. Locally sourced, regional and seasonal ingredients are combined with the warmth of old-world hospitality to bring the roots of Greek culture to Brookline.

Great local spot in Brookline for clean, simple and delicious Mediterranean flavors. A must try with a citrus blend mimosa for brunch on the weekends, too.

Excellent food and service at reasonable prices. Great atmosphere and music. The tequila and mezcal drink was excellent. Ordered trout and beef checks, highly recommend both. Lamb was good but not as interesting as the other two main dishes. Also had eggplant spread and a cheese spread to start with their bread, everything was delicious. Will come back!

As Greeks we give it a thumbs up. Fantastic food options. Very authentic but for the prices (then again if you weigh menu prices vs. a plane ticket to Greece I suppose it's a bargain). Your potatoes were a bit undercooked as were the chorta, but the tastes were right on. Speaking of potatoes and chorta, just add them to the main courses. Silly to have to order that separately....Bravo paideia!

Bar Vlaha is that unusual combination of flavorful, thoughtfully prepared, and utterly delicious food, a lovely atmosphere - relaxed but not too casual, fun but not too loud - and warm, just attentive enough service. We will be back!

We are foodies and we have also traveled a lot. The meal and the service was outstanding…. World class. Parking is a headache, but don’t let that deter you. You won’t be sorry!

We had been trying to get a reservation here that fit our schedule for months. The stars aligned on Saturday when we scored 2 seats at the chef’s table. Seeing each dish come out made us want everything! The extraordinary cheeses along with the oyster mushrooms were our appetizers followed by the slow roasted lamb, eggplant and lemon potatoes. The drinks are very special, don’t skip the cocktail with the feta foam! Shout out to Maria who took excellent care of us on this busy Saturday night. The whole team is very strong and works collaboratively. Details like the pottery, Italian flatware, wood boards underscores this is a beautifully curated experience.We can’t wait to return with more friends to try multiple dishes.

Nice place with good service and average food. Before going read some reviews calling Bar Vlaha- “best Greek food in Boston”. If that’s true - Boston doesn’t have good Greek food. I had the taramasalata- too oily, tastes more like mayo. Could not feel the roe in it. Lambs leg was OK, although a bit too dry and chewy. Somehow overpriced for the quality of the food. On the bright side-very pleasant service! I’m not sure if I will ever go back!

Excellent meal. Green shepherd's fare. The dips were delicious, as were the mushrooms and sourdough bread. We went for brunch, so I didn't have the opportunity to try some of the dinner specials. I do think that $21 for basically scrambled eggs and cheese with mushrooms, though delicious, is a bit steep. Also, $54 for brunch lamb chops seems excessive. Service was great, though. Be aware that you are limited to a 90 minute time for your party, so do arrive on time.

I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The best Greek food in Boston.

Fantastic dinner for group of 4 people. Our waiter, Maria, was amazingly helpful and kind. We felt so well taken of! We shared a bunch of delicious dishes including the crispy oyster mushrooms, feta pie, the homemade bread and tzatziki, feta and eggplant sauces. Chicken main dish and almond crumble for dessert.

Super noisy with cheap furnishings and bad lighting but the food is exquisite and beautifully served. Not good if you want to converse with your dinner companions.

I went with my wife and another couple. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable!! They explained the menu well. We ordered the Greek salad and VLACH GIORTI (slow roasted lamb leg, lamb chops, chicken kontosouvli, brizola, loukaniko, patates, tzatziki, spicy feta) for the table - it was enough for the 4 of us and gave an opportunity to experience a wide variety of dishes. The food matched the service - both were first rate! The noise level was good - no noisy music just people enjoying themselves! We did bering up the average age in the room by 10 years or more, but that made it all the more fun! We will be back and recommend Bar Vlaha very highly!! P.S. The desserts we shared - baklava with olive oil ice cream and a dark chocolate cake were also superb!

Our server was amazing, so attentive, kind, and knowledgeable. And everything we tried was outstanding. The dips and sourdough, crispy mushrooms, meat pie, beef cheeks, and the trout. Beef cheeks are not something I would usually order but this dish was probably my favorite of the night and I'm so glad we opted for it.

We absolutely loved our meal at Bar Vlaha. The food was amazing and the service was great. It was my husband’s 30th birthday and they made it very special! Our waiter was excellent and we loved the spreads and fried oyster mushrooms.

Bar Vlaha was excellent. Everything we ate was great — there were no misses. I last ate there in the first few weeks they were open when they were getting their bearings and i thought it was very good but not great. But now it’s great.

Fantastic!! Every dish had unique flavors with superb preparation. Cocktails great. This was a wonderful meal from start to finish. How often do you have a meal where EVERYTHING is great? If you haven’t, then try this restaurant. Excellent service as well

Great restaurant. I enjoyed most dishes. The pork chop was extremely good.

Bar Vlaha is one of our favorites. Tried the stuffed grape leaves this time and the baklava, highly recommend. Our server, Jorge was very helpful and friendly.

Third time I’ve had the please dining at Bar Vlaha and it continue to exceed expectations. Each dish is packed with flavor. Excellent cocktails. The slow roasted lamb is one of my all time favorites.
