Bar Primi is a corner pasta shop devoted to ‘primi piatti,’ the pasta course. What began as an idea for a small space in New York's East Village has since become an essential in chef and co-owner Andrew Carmellini's range: fresh pasta traditionally prepared and cooked to order. At Bar Primi, the main course is Primi Piatti. We use a variety of non-GMO semolina and specialty ‘00’ flours, organic eggs and handed-down techniques to create our menu of Traditional and Seasonal pasta dishes. We make more than a dozen different shapes and styles daily. This includes lumache and rigatoni from our imported extruder or ravioli and mezzalune cut and filled by hand. Family recipes and secrets are traded between Carmellini and Brooklyn-born chef-partner Salvatore Lamboglia who also offers a daily meat or seafood special in addition to a selection of shareable Piccolini and Antipasti, artisanal cheese, salumi and simple home-style desserts.

From perfect Aperol Spritzes to one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had, Bar Primi is a fabulous retaurant. We started with the Burrata appetizer. The creamy cheese paired with the roasted peppers was perfect. However, the star of the evening was the Fiori de Carciofi. It was awesome!

We have been here many times and once again Bar Primi did not disappoint. The service is always excellent and we have never had a disappointing meal. For this visit everything was delicious but the spring pea pasta, the bucatini and the steak were exceptional. The wine recommendations were spot on and we are still talking about desert and the desert wines. As a point of comparison, we ate at a celebrity chef Italian place later in the week and all agreed that Bar Primi was far better in terms of food, service, ambiance and overall experience.

Dinner at Bar Primi never disappoints. We tried brunch today, and it was wonderful. Marvelous food and superb customer service! Go!!!

Everything was amazing. Obviously expensive but expected. It was just very hot upstairs.

We were there for a birthday lunch. The octopus appetizer and the pastas were excellent. Where Bar Primi drops the ball are their salads. They are overpriced given the lack of promised ingredients. My arugula salad lacked the promised dried cherries and almonds, and making the experience worse was that the chef is heavy handed with the vinegar. I ordered the arugula salad with chicken and was brought a sad, dry chicken breast on a plate. Not only wasn't it on the salad, they didn't bother to slice it. That was an extra $9 somehow. I returned the dish and was given a kale salad instead. And... nope. Dry, scant on anything but kale and, again, overly vinegary. My advice? Go and eat the pasta and forget the salads.

We went out for brunch and the food and service was great! You should definitely share some meatballs, Brussels sprouts and ricotta. We had some food restrictions in our group and they were able to accommodate and help with selection without making you feel uncomfortable. Truly great experience.
