    After ten years of the “bento-box” lunch special for one reason or another Chef Masa and team decided to do away with the “Bar-Masa” bento box special menu and pricing. People usually adding something else to the menu while there but hey who am I but a loyal goer for over the past ten years. They should reconsider this decision as a $200- lunch is not very attentive for most of us.

    The dishes are small. We had Peking Duck Foie Gras Tacos, tempura shrimp, yellow tail scallion, hotate sea bream, Grilled Maitake Mushroom with Truffle, jalapeno octopus, fried chicken dumplings. all were great, Peking duck and Octopus were our favorites. We had dessert: Sobe ice cream Affogato and double espresso. all the dessert items were OK. The food we had was worth the prices, it was excellent , except dessert. Everything was delicious and the sushi was much better than normal.

    I will premise this by saying that I am not a huge fan of sushi. But, i have had sushi that has changed my mind on that stance, for as much as we spent, I hoped this would be that way. But the food was just not to my taste, and it felt like it lacked the usual attention to detail and thought of a Michelin. The Omakase was uninspired, and a bit bland. But again, I don’t really like sushi. Felt more like an upscale bar than a high end restaurant.

    Absolutely delicious, but very highly priced and not for the faint of heart. I'll be back, but only after a few bonus checks or a lottery win. Definitely a bucket list sushi experience, though.

    We have been dinning at Bar Masa for many years and it has been one of our favorite NYC places. We understand this is not an inexpensive restaurant however we were charged $52 for a gin martini which would typically on the high end cost $28. There are certain items that we can’t fathom over paying for and this is one of them. The sashimi dinner was also over priced and we should have ordered a la cart sushi. We left hungry and the bill was $550 for (2). The Tuna and caviar is well worth the $98 and the stone crab was worth the $40 and we enjoyed the sake and service.
